Do you cover your webcam when you're not using it? I do. I'm always thinking someone could be watching (or maybe they're listening) :o :o
-
I don't know if it is true or not that "others" (whoever "others" could be) can see me through my computer's camera. I do have a tape over the top of it just in case.....I guess I'd rather be safe than sorry.
-
I don't but I have heard of this, It is concerning that when your computer goes on the blink and you call, they ask if they may fix it, and the company actually moves the mouse close tabs and others the thing is someone else is maneuvering the computer, makes you think. Thanks for this blog original, have a gr8 day. Stay safe.

My computer doesn't have a webcam, but if it did, I too would cover it with a piece of tape.

Yes, That is concerning. :o

I actually do. I am not afraid anybody is watching me though. Or listening to me. You can see if the camera is activated. I have always covered it since I got a laptop that had one on it. There have supposedly been rare cases when the camera was activated. I have used it some with video chatting with a friend but I had to accept the request to access my camera. Nobody has ever been able to do it without permission. I have randomly been asked before on certain sites. I x out and clear cookies and restart computer when that has happened.

You have to give them permission to access you computer. I do not remember who it was but something I was trying to fix and talking to tech and he wanted to access my computer. Kept telling me it would be easier if he could just do it. NO it would be easier if you could tell me what to do or transfer me to your supervisor. We got in to a huge argument. He finally told me what to do and I done it myself. NO you cannot access MY computer. They can also access ANYTHING on your computer once you allow them to connect. Two seconds and they can download your pictures or what ever to their computer. Saved documents or whatever else they want.
I think what I was trying to do was turn off the auto renew on my virus protection. We go thru this every year. I do not think auto renew should be automatic. If I want that I will tell you. I prefer to renew myself when I want to each year. Or go with a different company next year if I choose to do that. He was flat out refusing to help me. I finally (on live chat typing) told him I was going to copy and paste the conversation and send it to his supervisor as well as corporate. Just answer my question. Quit trying to hack my computer. Quit trying to call me. And quit trying to upsale me. Just tell me how to turn this feature OFF.
He finally did. lol And he didn't need to call me nor access my computer to turn it off for me. He could turn it off on his end but I wanted to SEE for myself and turn it off myself.

Yes, always cover webcam because there are a lot of crazy hackers out there.
-
I always did, but since I have had this laptop I haven't. I had actually for got about it.
-
I just unhook the web cam. the laptop has tape over it.
-
I don't have a webcame. Never wanted one, to be honest. But if I did, I absolutely would cover it!
-
My husband now deceased had a tape over his and my son was using the laptop the other day and I noticed the tape was still on it. The webcam never worked on my laptop (to my knowledge) anyway but the whole thought of it now is giving me the creeps lol.
-
Yes, I put a folded card over the camera at times. You never know if a hacker is watching you. or stranger
-
I still do lol, You never know when someone is spying on you or not.
-
my desktop doesnt have one..laptops do..but they aren't on
-
Hey, I'm almost always sitting in front of my computer (fully dressed) when I am using it and anybody who has managed to hack the camera is going to be so bored so quickly they'll be on to the next computer quickly!
-
I keep it covered up all the time, can't trust people who hack into your computer, once you use the webcam during survey taking.
-
No. I forget I have one.
-
Mine is covered with tape
-
My desktop computer monitor doesn't have a webcan, but my laptop does. I don't know anything about webcams but had heard you could be watched, so I put a piece of freezer tape over it. When I had to take the laptop for repairs, the guy told me it was impossible for someone to spy without permission so he took the tape off. I left it off but it still makes me nervous because I would scare the bejeesus out of someone and I don't want to be responsible for someone having a heart attack. :D
-
I cover mine too. I like to make sure it is free from dust and dirt. :)
-
I don't have a webcam on my home computer, but I do have a post it note over the camera on my work computer. I don't need people looking at me staring at a computer screen during web meetings. That's just too weird.
-
I have covered it once or twice before.
Thank you for reminding me i just covered it again! :pumpkin: :rose: :peace:
-
Just covered it, had not really thought about it before.
-
I don't cover it, but I do face it a different way when I'm not using it. Even though I don't think I'm likely to be hacked, it's easy enough to move it.
-
I don't have one but I think you are wise to do what you are doing. There are so many things out there today - one never knows!!! :o
-
I don't have mine covered and I guess I didn't realize that someone could see me without my camera light coming on. Looks like I will be getting a sticky note to put in front of my webcam tonight.
-
I don’t know how to cover a webcam. I don’t see how it’s like a physical camera.
-
:bunny: :cat: :dog: Wow! I don't cover my camera on my laptop, of course I have a light when its activated. I don't use my camera on my computer much. I have thought about this before, but I don't do much with my computer these day's to think there should be a concern. :bunny: :cat: :dog:

I never did before until I got a spam email that was sort of an extorting email. It said unless I sent them so much money they would publish pictures and scenes taken from my webcam. I didn't believe it and deleted my email but then covered up my webcam! It's not like they would have any incriminating pictures, anyway, but...
-
I do not cover mine. Good luck to whoever is watching ... they see me at my worst first thing in the morning. PJs and messy hair is all they get ... LOL
-
I do, I want be safe always rather than sorry! but not sure how far it is true that people can watch you through your webcam, cant they do the same with your smart phone ??
-
I do not cover my webcam when not in use but, if someone was using it and I didn't know it, all they'd see is the ceiling so, have at it!
-
I actually do. I read a article online that the FBI recommends that you do cover your webcam so people who don't have authority to look at me...DON'T!
-
I dont cover but it makes sense that someone could be watching you. I think its something to think about.
-
I have a web cam and it isn't covered but after reading all of this I am definitely going to cover it.
-
I always cover up my webcam. You never know who is watching. The smart TV's can listen to us among the other devices out now.
-
My webcam has not been working recently so no need to cover it.
-
My computer has a webcam but you have to activate it. We had an old computer where the webcam would always be popping up for some reason but still it was the same thing, you have to activate it.
-
I rarely use my laptop with the webcam on it and would be awfully boring to spy on just sitting there for hours. Enjoy my triple-chin, hackers
-
no just shut it up.
-
Thanks to this discussion, I now have mine covered.
-
I have a piece of tape over my webcam.
-
no, I've never covered my laptop cam - If it lights up, it's on; otherwise it's off. And I have to give permission for access.
-
I dont have to worry about that, my computer doesnt have a webcam :)
-
don't have a web cam on my computer,, nor do i ever want one.
-
nah . nothing to hide and i dont keep a computer in my room .
-
Thanks for the reminder!
I had made one, but it comes off when I close my laptop.
When I saw this, I quickly put mine back on.
:rose:
-
I don't feel the need to and if someone is watching, I will flash a boob or something or pretend to pick my nose..haha
-
Yes i do the same thing too
-
I can't believe this thread, why would I care if someone is watching me?
-
Yes. I cover my web cam on my laptops with a post-it taped down... I have since forever.
I don't cover the microphone though... I saw that Facebook Zuckerberg has both his webcam & his microphone covered on his computer, I probably should, but now I have Alexa & voice firesticks everywhere so if people want to hear my conversations there are so many options.
-
I tend to cover it with a post-it note that I cut in half.
-
Yes I do. My son reminds me to take it off when we do face chats.
-
I don't but i close the laptop if i don't use it.One single time i saw my camera opened by itself and i realized somebody was watching me.I closed the laptop immediately.
-
no if someone is watching me then whatever they see they have to live with
