Nancy, are they part of the evacuation?  I have friends who are vacationing at Myrtle Beach. They left this morning coming home (the mandatory evac was issued last night).  Also have extended family who will be leaving Wednesday.  They do not know for sure it will make land fall. Hopefully it will still turn and go back out in to the ocean.

country girl as of today it's not mandatory but they have plans to leave.  it's my cousin her husband, her daughter and 2 grandkids.   Also 4 dogs and 1 cat.  Thank God there are 3 cars in the household to fit all the people and pets.  I'm praying your family will be safe.  I heard it might be upgraded to category 5!

We went through this exactly one year ago yesterday.  I pray he victims are safe and they can get their lives back in order soon.  We lived under blue tarps for 7 months and there are people who still don't have their homes back yet.

Yes, please stay safe everyone in the path of Florence.  I live in KY so won't be directly affected but we are expected to get a lot more rain that we don't need at the moment.

I'm in the upstate of South Carolina and have many friends in Charleston SC.    I am happy to see the governor has already taken steps to help the evacuations.   Today at noon they are reversing the traffic on I-26 eastbound lanes to west bound lanes.   This is a serious storm and I hope everyone takes heed to the warnings.

Where my friend / family is it was mandatory.  They were all right on Myrtle Beach.  Before I got to the end of your post I was wondering if they would be able to take the pets.  I don't think I could leave mine.  I had not heard it had been upgraded.  I prayed it would go back out in to the ocean.

I do not understand how they can even do that.  I know last year in Florida people just got on going the wrong way.  Looks like that could have been a real mess when they started meeting cars head on.  They it is all at a stand still.

Looks to me like (and I can be wrong here) but if everybody would get get in their car and drive the speed limit then traffic would continue to move.  I wondered if they would have gas shortages because so many people are trying to fill up.  We have had a couple of local stations in my town that were out of gas.  Several pumps had bags over them this morning.

I have a friend who just bought a home in  the Outer Banks. I thought he was nuts because they always get hit, but the rest of the family is there. i pray for everyone to be safe and things are different where pets are concerned over the past few years. I can't ever leave my fur babies and I can see why some people don't evacuate but I would take my babies and keep going until I found a place we could all be together. It's too traumatic for them to be left behind.

I don't know.  From what I am seeing it is just a hurricane just like the others.  Cat 3 and 4 hurricanes have made landfall multiple times and it was not a devastating thing that shut down the whole country.

They talked about how the one suppose to hit Florida last year was going to completely wipe out Puerto Rico (which it did not), completely destroy Florida (nothing will be left) and cause damage as far up as Tennessee.  Then it basically didn't do much of anything.

I am not seeing that much on the news either.  I have heard there is a hurricane and people were told to leave the area.  That happens all the time.

I have looked on Yahoo and there is barely any mention of it.  So basically, I am not seeing where people are getting it is suppose to be so catastrophic.

No this will not be like Hugo at all except for hitting the Carolina coast. Hugo hit land at Charleston and barreled full speed ahead inland, still a hurricane when it got to Charlotte.  The winds from Hugo wrecked havoc well north of Charlotte.  Flooding was not much of an issue except at the coast.
Florence is taking the Harvey approach, she will hit land and stall and dump rain for possibly days there are areas that could hit 30-40" of rain.

It's amazing that they were able to divert the traffic but they did.   It does help.  During hurricane Floyd my son was living in Charleston South Carolina.   He was a professional dancer with Charleston Ballet Theater.  He, his girlfriend and several other dancers all headed to our house.  A normal drive to Charleston is 3 1/2 hours.  They were on the road for over 9 hours.  They did not divert traffic on I-26 that year and it was horrible.  It was like a parking lot.  They, along with other drivers on I-26 were very frustrated because the East bound lanes were empty.   By the time they got to our house they were exhausted.  I have a very small house but was glad to have them here so we knew they were all safe.
Everyone needs to heed the warnings and get out.  Even if it turns out to not be as bad as they are predicting it's better to be safe.   I saw a young couple on the news today with a small child who said they were not evacuating.  They live on the barrier islands of North Carolina.  I don't care if you're an adult and decide to try and ride it out but when you have a small child I believe it is irresponsible to not leave.

Yes definitely already sending prayers up and will continue to do so.  Also if everyone could keep Florida on the back burner for prayers it would be great I could do without any hurricane activity this year.  Everyone stay safe.

Have you evacuated?  If not please take all the precautions, listen to the authorities.   They are saying it will stall over land and this could go on for days.  The storm surge and downfall of rain will cause the flooding and that can be just, if not more, devastating than the actual hurricane itself.   Stays safe!

I have kids in Georgia and Charlotte, NC.  They are all stocked up on food, milk, water fuel in all the vehicles and ice in all f the ice chests since they will probably be without power for a few days, and if the rain is as bad as they predict they will not be able to get out to shop.  Both of the boys have good heads on their shoulders and will make sure their families are safe.  (They are adults but will always be my babies!)  So yes, I have been and will continue to pray for all of those who are/will and may be affected by the hurricane.

I have heard everything from it is now a Cat 2 Hurricane to it is still a 4.  I have heard it is only a Tropical Storm now and I have heard that where I live we are going to be in the path.  It changes so much who the crap knows.

It seems the FAKE NEWS has now taken over weather reports because somebody has to be lying or maybe just stupid.  I don't know how the reports on what it is could be that different.  I did follow the National Hurricane something and FEMA on Twitter last night. Not sure what they are saying this morning.

I do not see how even in heave traffic that the interstate can become a parking lot.  If people would put their phones down and pull their head out of their butt and just DRIVE then it should move along smoothly.  Just drive the speed limit and respect other drivers.  Let people over when they need to get to the right in case that is where THEY need to get off.  Then it would be fine.

The use rolling road blocks and shut down all entrance ramps when they reverse the traffic. I think I saw that yesterday.  I was curious as to what happened if somebody did get on going the right way and they meet each other.  I guess the ones going the wrong way would hit them and knock them off the road way.

It is sad that people can't pull together and help each other.  I never saw or read the Hunger Games but from what I heard it reminds me of that.  Everybody is fighting and THEY are going to survive.  Instead of pulling together and helping each other.

Although I know several people in my area have said they are willing to take in pets.  I have seen where some are saying they have room for a couple of horses.

I-26 is normally a great highway to drive.  I love I-26.   BUT when 1 million people have to evacuate from the coast and I-26 is the major way out it's a different story.  It has nothing to do with people driving the speed limit.  The highway was not built to accommodate 1 million people.   Trust me, this hurricane is going to be catastrophic.  It has very little to do with the "category" of the hurricane and has everything to do with the storm surges and continual rain it will bring.    This is not fake news.  It is going to be devastating.

It isn't going to be catastrophic or devastating.  They have already downgraded it to a Cat 1.  Well depending on which news source you hear.  They said the same thing about Florida last year.  Like I said, they were saying it was suppose to wipe Florida off the map.  It didn't do anything like what they were screaming for days.

I guess all we can do is wait and see what happens.  But somebody's news is fake because every source is saying something completely different.  It cannot be a Cat 1 and a Cat 4 at the same time.  One or the other is wrong.  People act like this is the first hurricane to ever hit the mainland.  This happens every year.  And yes, according to some sources I am in the path - depending on which direction is takes.

There may be flooding on the beach but it won't be catastrophic.  Honestly, I think the hype is just to take people's attention off of other things going on in the country right now.  Like the election in November.  That could be WAY more catastrophic that this hurricane.  Or all of them put together.

We're going to get downpours of rain and wind of 35 mph with gusts up to 50 but it's not expected here until Sunday.  Watching now as they try to rescue a man, woman and child in a house where a tree fell and split the room in half.  They have called in a surgical team because the tree is on top of the man and they think they will have to perform an amputation in his home.   For the life of me I do not understand people that stayed when it was a mandatory evacuation.

They've downgraded it to a tropical storm, but they're still saying catastrophic flooding is expected.
The best information is from NOAA.

Slowing down is not doing anyone any favors, moving at 1-4 mph the last 24 hrs it is causing so much damage dumping so much rain.  With it lasting so long in the same area any little break people start venturing out thinking it is over.  Wish the storm would get a move on.  We have been waiting for it for days now in the western part of the state and just a little bit of light rain.

It is not like you cannot look at a weather map and see it is not over.  It started raining her in the night.  I have received alerts and know when the flooding is suppose to begin.  If I decide to go stand in the middle of it with a video camera then I deserve what ever happens.  I have been told wheat to do in order to be safe.  It is up to ME to listen to those warnings and heed the warnings.

My feelings about leaving or not are the choice should be yours.  If you want to be stupid and stay, that’s your right, however, any and all children should be removed from the home.  If you want to play with your life, than go for it, but children have no say and they should be protected.

I saw on social media rescuers rescuing beagles, a lot of them, that were left in large cages in the yard, that area was completely flooded & water level was waist deep or so... looked like the dogs had to be swimming in the cage to stay above the water.
Apparently, they had to rescue the people in the house too.  At least they could have let the dogs loose to give them a fighting chance, or for them to climb on top of a car or something.  People need to evacuate if they are told to, otherwise they just become a drain on resources when they need to be rescued.

I also do not think emergency personnel should have to risk their life to rescue people who refuse to leave. Oh I am just gonna ride it out.  Well ya better be able to swim!

What a nightmare, especially for the people that do not have the money, family or friends to go stay out of the way.

 :rose:

That's something to think about.  There are people who don't have the resources to leave, or a place to go to, if they can get out.

lol.  I do not think moving underground is a smart move when you are talking about flooding of up to 8 feet.

When thinking about NC, I almost forgot that my dad used to live in Shallote. Hubby says near Wilmington and it was only feet from the beach. Glad he's no longer there.

They updated the deaths to 17 now. So sad. Some didn't have to die if they would have followed the orders.

As for it moving northeast, we are now under flash flood advisory until tomorrow night. Florence's rains are here now. They started around noon. People are nervous because of the rains last month flooded the towns due to the intensity of the rain and people are freaking out.

I am in the sandhills of North Carolina.  We have some flooding issues, not at our house, but the Cape Fear River is overflowing its banks.

The farther out it moves the less rain people are getting. It has already passed us. They said the same thing here.  Flood, Flood, Flood.  But it didn't.
