I don't know if this makes it appealing but the cost of living is lower than the U.S. average.  Also, the unemployment rate is lower then the national average. Another plus the delicious BBQ!

Texas is nice to visit however I don't think i would want to live there. Some parts of Texas is really nice. You should visit, you may like it.

I would LOVE to move from California to Texas when I retire... the taxes in California are insane & the quality of life is lowest of all 50 states, the pace of life here is FAST -- something I've noticed that is absent in other states, except maybe in New York City.   Texas has reasonable priced homes, taxes are low to none... I believe they don't have state income tax, or property tax. You get tons of land if you want.... I would like to live by the ocean there, perhaps around Houston or Galveston. There is a big exodus of people leaving California to other states due to taxes, probably why other states are becoming so liberal, even the conservatives in California are mostly socially liberal / fiscal conservatives.

The humidity though..... ugh.

I've never been to Texas, but I imagine it's too hot there in the summer for me. I hate the heat and humidity. It makes me feel like I'm suffocating.

I am spoiled with gorgeous weather for over three hundred and twenty days a year  living in Colorado. I have to go to conferences every once in a while. Three separate conferences were in Texas (Houston and San Antonio) and I was absolutely miserable dashing from air conditioned area to a car to another air conditioned area the whole time. Someone suggested walking to a grand courtyard with an excellent restaurant. We started in that direction but, after walking no more than ten feet in that direction, turned around. There was absolutely no thought of sleeping with the windows open. I feel the same way About Minnesota, Wisconsin, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Alabama and the Carolinas. I do not like feeling sticky or sweating my buns off.

I love Texas!  Not born here but have lived here for close to 50 years.  There are parts of Texas I would not want to live in though;  west Texas for one as the wind seems to always blow there and it's so dry.  We camp there sometimes but wouldn't want to live there.  Austin, DFW and some of the other larger cities are too liberal for my liking so wouldn't want to live near those either.  Where we live is a lot like my home state; minus the mountains.

I've never spent any real time there maybe a day here or there for work.  We have two bases there for work.  I'd only move there for the weather.  I'm sick of cold weather.  I have a cousin that lives there she's been there for several years so I guess she likes it well enough.

Texas is like New, Mexico and Az. You will love it or hate it. I don't think  there is in half way  to it. When I  lived in Ohio I hated it. I could not  wait to get back to my beloved state of N.M.. So much sunshine the  great mountains, being able to see for miles and miles where we live.  Yes we get some winter but not a lot. Yes it gets cold here too. and it dang sure get  balsted hot. But all in all I will live in the wes.

I only visited Texas once, and it was during a trip from Houston to Louisiana. Personally, I think the state is very overrated (made so by those who live there).

I traveled through Texas many years ago.  The only thing I know about the state is it's huge and takes many many hours and maybe days to get out of and you see a lot of cattle. Some of these posts make it sound interesting.

Have been to Dallas and San Antonio for vacations.  Was very different than Chicago much more laid back but don't think I could live in either city.  Have family down there and they love it.  Guess it is a matter of what you like and can get used to.

The humidity though..... ugh.

I moved from Southern California to Oregon back in 1969 for all those reasons and Oregon does not have Hurricanes.

I am sure people who live in Texas like it.  I like it where I live. Others would not want to live in my state. And that is fine.
