Title: Do you plan to retire or keep working
Post by: dreamyxo on September 30, 2018, 10:39:43 pm
I'm so sick of working. If I could retire now I would.  I know some people just keep on working some because they love it and some because they have no choice.

I am retired now. At the beginning of retirement, I really missed it and wanted to go back to work again, even if only
at some part-time job. Now after 9 years of retirement, I absolutely love it and never want to work for anybody else for the rest of my life.

I hate retirement. If it was up to me, I'd still be working but with my line of work, if you skip a year or two, you're considered unqualified. I had to skip a year because of my medical problem 8 years ago, but couldn't find a job when I was back to normal..I still look but it's hopeless, so I tried another line of work. Had a few possibilities but they either had a partial standing, walking, or using Excel, which I'm not well versed in using. So here i sit and it drives me nuts!

I hear ya. I'd love to retire, that's why I'm putting away a ton (to me) of money right now. Hopefully, I'll be able to rest and relax one day.

I had to retire due to disabilities.  I take 28 medications a day and that does not include 4 insulin shots a day.

I've loved retirement since the day I left my job.  I do miss the connection with all my patients, though.  Some had been coming to me every six months for thirty years!!!  You can build up quite a relationship in that amount of time.  The biggest blessing to me in retirement is getting to sleep like I want to.  I can stay up as late as I want and sleep until I don't want to sleep any more! I've never been able to do that before!

All I can say is, "Be careful what you wish for!"  Unless you have a fair amount of friends, interests, and/or money, retirement can be quite stressful and boring. I have now been retired for about 3 years and there are parts I like.  For example, I started having sleep problems in my late 50's, and quite honestly, going to work on 2-3 hours of sleep used to drive me crazy.  Now, at least, I don't have the pressure of having to get up and perform all day on almost no sleep. Also, if I decide to be lazy for 3 or 4 days, it isn't nearly as stressful as when I knew I was coming home to a mess to cope with. I also have started interacting with my local Senior Center at least once a week and going on some of their day trips and that has helped.

I have been retired over 18 years and I don't miss work at all. I keep plenty busy on the Internet, but nothing puts demands on my time anymore. I travel all over taking 4 or 5 vacations a year and fill in with a few days at our beach condos whenever the mood strikes. I don't know how life could get much better.   :star:

I do plan to retire at some point.  I would love to then move closer to where my youngest kids and the grandkids live so that I can spend more time with them and later be able to attend their school and extracurricular activities.

I'm retired already and I volunteer to feed the homeless once a week and sometimes I'll go three times when I'm able to squeeze it in the schedule.  I missed going to work at first but now it's normal to me.

I'll have to work until I die, because I don't see ever having enough money to retire.  :(

I think I will probably continuing working well past retirement age. I am not the type of person to sit around and do nothing as life passes me by.

Just because you are retired doesn't mean you need to sit around and do nothing, it just means your time if much more flexible. I have been retired since Sept, 2000 and have a blast making pennies online and enjoy it because I don't really need the money. I just need something challenging to do and it fills the bill.

I will continue working until at least age seventy. At that age  I can maximize my Social Security benefits (if they are still around). I have lived a good life and could live comfortably on retirement income from investments and retirement savings I have built up. My working now is focused on making money for my children's weddings, first house, college, appliances for their new houses, and taking care of my family in every possible way. Now I am competing with myself to see how much I can accrue for  the inheritance my children will receive. My parents will pass, as we all do, and I would imagine that  a generous inheritance will be had by me. I have encouraged them to by pass me and put it into a trust for my children. My parents have worked hard and I would hope that they would spend as much as they can on themselves-they deserve it.

I am a data collector. I scan bar codes on merchandise in two grocery stores. Use to do it in three stores but gave up one of them.

Keep working since I'll likely not be able to afford to retire.
