Based on your occupation(s) and/or where in the USA you currently live/work (if applicable), do you get Columbus Day off from your usual routine(s)? The day (meaning Columbus Day) is not counted as a holiday for every school district in America. Because I grew up in Madison, WI, USA, I never had Columbus Day as a day-off from school.
-
We never get off for Columbus Day.
-
No Columbus Day is not a major holiday in fact when I was coming up it was controversial and looked down on because of the atrocities Columbus committed and the fact that he didn't discover anything. It's just an excuse for retailers to advertise thing that are for sale.
-
Not here.
-
Columbus Day is rarely observed at all in the private sector. Most government offices close because it is a federal holiday.I think some banks still close on Columbus Day while others are open on the less widely observed holidays.
-
I live and grew up in the Northeast. Other than having school off there was no other observation for Columbus Day.
My understanding is that Columbus Day is in north east holiday for schools. When I was working the banks and everything else were open for business . :pumpkin: :pumpkin: :rose: :peace:

Well,it somewhat is, however I still have to work even though the market is closed and I work in financial services.
-
Not really. The only people who get today off are folks who work in banks and schools.
-
No. Banks, post office & government offices are all closed. I have to work...
-
I got a notice that my bank in Northern Ohio is closed
-
Banks are closed here in NC, as are the post offices (since that is federal gov and they love any excuse for holiday). I grew up in New York and we didn't have school back then.
-
They do not even do anything in school about it any more. I think that is because we have a fall break right before now.
-
When I worked for the school district we got Columbus day off as one of our holidays. When I worked at call centers we didn't. Now I am retired so I get all of the holidays off LOL. I don't know who else around here but I do know my bank is closed.
-
Almost all offices and businesses are open on Columbus Day. Our company is open, but we get a "floating holiday" in lieu of Columbus Day off.
-
Yes! I honor Columbus Day.
I also honor other courageous explorers
that have show us the way.
-
No, it is not. In fact, as far back as I can remember, Columbus Day is simply treated as an average day of the week.
-
I get the day off from work on Columbus Day (and every other day too), but it is a big deal in Portland, Oregon since back in 1962 they had a monster storm that people still talk about.

Columbus Day is not a holiday in Texas, but is considered a bank and school holiday so they are closed. I didn't realize that Columbus Day became a holiday across the United States in 1937.
-
yes, we have no school, banks closed, no mailman
-
No in my area it is just another day except the banks are closed. No one plans any kind of special event or celebration for Columbus Day.
-
Happy Columbus Day folks!
-
We never get Columbus day off
-
It’s not a big deal here in PA. The banks are closed and no mail delivery but that’s about all that’s different today.
-
I never get Columbus day off.
-
As a child I remember it as a holiday but not today!
-
The kids were home from school but for the rest of us it was just another day.
-
The banks and mail are closed but I think it is a wasted day.
-
I don't get work off, but I don't get many holidays off. I think a lot of people get that day off where I live, but I am not sure about the schools.
-
Not really - it's one of the few holidays that are selectively celebrated and should be replaced
