Okay, I know you were like, "What?" is this about when you saw the title of the thread. However, I wanted to tell everyone interested that many cities are having problems with people treating their toilets like a garbage can. There are only 4 "Ps" which should go in the toilet. Pee, poop, puke, and paper. Toilet paper, that is!
One big no-no are the so-called flushable wipes. No, they are not actually "flushable." They are really mislabelled! They go down the drain, but they really mess up the pipes. Other no-nos are hair, pills, feminine products, dental floss, and Q-tips. So, do your city or private septic system a favor and use your toilet what it is supposed to be used for.

Tampons are flushable. And if the flushable wipes say they are flushable why would I believe you and not the company that makes them?

Interesting. Some people cram everything in the toilet including the entire roll of toilet paper at once.

I'd rather toss a "disposable" wipe, tampon and other large "disposable" item than run the risk of a giant clog and back up that requires a Plumber.

I'd rather toss a "disposable" wipe, tampon and other large "disposable" item than run the risk of a giant clog and back up that requires a Plumber.
Well then there needs to be something brought against the manufacturers for saying they are okay to flush. :< You would think you could believe what the package says on them. I will look at the link in a bit. :)

The only people I know of that crams an entire roll of TP in a toilet at once is stupid kids in school.

I agree with the do not flush wipes down even if it says it's okay on the packaging. Sure they may be biodegradable. But why not just throw them away after using em. They'll still end up biodegradable in some landfill somewhere. Side note: kinda funny. I had a family member that would tell the grand children to flush the cereal they didn't finish off. Her husband would get so angry when he'd go in and see lucky charms floating back up at him.

j didn't know that people flushed cereal and things like that. I do flush wipes.

Now flushing cereal? That is a new one. lol If it would go down I don't see how it could hurt much. Kind of like people get all bent out of shape on flushing pills and saying it ends up in the water supply. Well THINK what is in your toilet. If the pills are going to end up in the water supply then poop, puke, and pee and all that is also in my water supply. It is no wonder everybody is sick these days.

We don't flush the wipes down the toilet either. Our city pipes are quite old and it is not a good idea to do it. Better to put them in the trash. Besides if we stop it up in the yard we have to pay for it to get fixed and that is a lot of money folks. Of course if you live in an apartment who is going to know who flushed them. But sooner or later your toilet will be stopped up. Just don't take a chance. They are biodegradable . and will decompose in the landfill.

We just had a new toilet put in yesterday and the plumber told us that wipes are a NO NO and so are the drop ins !!

For a long time when you are in any public restrooms they have been asking you not to flush the flushable wipes down but to use the trash can instead. Plumbers I have talked to say the same thing, they do cause lots of clogs.

Why would anyone flush cereal? Do they eat the cereal while on the toilet?

Well I am ok on all that except the flushable wipes. I had heard that once before but chose to not believe it. Guess I won't be doing that anymore although that puts some nasty stuff in the trash bin.

There is currently an ad running on TV in the New York City area saying basically the same thing but adding that you should also not put the fat run-off from cooking things like hamburgers down your toilet because it makes a huge fatburger underground that gums up the whole sewer system and has to be treated to get rid of it.

I think I explained why wipes are not flushable. I have now seen three resources that have explained that over the past 6 months and that is one reason I made the posts. Tampons are about the only feminine product that is flushable but sources are saying that is becoming problematic because of all the stuff people are putting down their toilet!

How to tell if something is flushable is by putting them in water for hours or overnight. Swish it around every so often. If they don't break down, they're not flushable.
Tampons are NOT flushable. Sooner or later they'll get stuck in the sewer pipe and you'll have a nice big mess. I know from experience on that front. Son's girlfriend flushed tampons. Cost big money big time.
