Do you squirm when you drive over long bridges? I do. If I could bypass these, I definitely would. Sometimes they shake and some look so old.
-
I dont have to cross long bridges very often. Here in Michigan we have the Mackinaw Bridge which is 5 miles long. Ive been over it half a dozen times, both in the night, and day time. It makes me a little nervous but not too bad
-
I agree that I get a little nervous especially over the ones that I know can open to let the ships and boats go thru. I always try to avoid those especially the one near downtown Chicago because traffic is crazy down there
-
No I'm fine with them.
-
all bridges always make me a little nervous. i haven't been over a long bride for many years. :rainbow: :peace:
-
Yes, ma'am, I do! We have some really old bridges around here.
-
I am afraid of earthquakes and bridge failures.
It is scary and just too risky!
-
I don't squirm or get nervous when I go over bridges, but I often do wonder what repairs there are to be made that have not yet been made and how close to collapse a bridge really is. it is about time the country found the funds to do infrastructure repairs of bridges, roads, trains and airports in this country.

Bridges have never nerved me before. It's funny that this was the first topic I stumbled across today because I was thinking about the architecture of a new bridge where I live compared to that of one it replaced. I drive this bridge nearly every day en'route to taking my daughter to school. In fact we've even stood along this bridge to watch fireworks over the river on the fourth of July before.
-
The smaller bridges that you can see over the sides used to bother me when I was younger. Most bridges now are pretty wide so you can't see over the side as much.
-
As a matter of fact, yes I do. Whether they are long or short bridges, what used to be a fun adventure for me in the past is no longer the case.
Last week I read a news report about how bridges, including the small highway overpass bridges are in such need of maintenance and repair that construction crews are not able to keep up with the demand.
A big concrete section of an overpass bridge in Tennessee came crashing down to the highway below. I don't think anyone got hurt but it could have been tragic.

I'm scared to cross bridges, luckily there aren't any "real" bridges where I have to go regularly. I have reorganized an entire vacation when I realized my itinerary would require driving across the Golden Gate.
-
Yea because the one old bridge I go over to get to my brother and sister-in-laws is just that "old" and I read awhile back that the over-passes in our area are not good either.
-
I'm okay as long as they connect to the other side.
:fish:

No, it doesn't bother me to drive over bridges... but I understand some people are fearful -- I have a first cousin who I grew up with, who I've witnessed on my occasions experience such fear going down high ones.
-
I rarely need to drive over bridges; so not much of a problem ; if I need to I just try and stay focus and get across safely.
-
they make me nervous...i can handle some short ones...nothing too tall..and definitely not the longer ones...i would have have a heart attack..and there is no way i would go through the bridge tunnel under water...ever...

After hearing a few bridge failures and how bad our infrastructure is I do get a little nervous.

I enjoy going over bridges. It kind of gives me the feeling of flying as there is nothing on either side. My father ironically, an engineer who worked on bridges, was terrified of driving on bridges. He would purposely reroute daily drives in order to avoid driving over a bridge. Most of his fear came from the lack of maintenance that gets done on bridges and, at the time, the long periods that would go between safety checks. My daughter, graduating in the top five people in her class at a one of the top three engineering colleges in the country (proud daddy), has no fear of bridges. I figure that if it is your time to go...it is your time to go. You can't live life afraid of what might happen. You can certainly minimize your exposure to certain dangers but I think that bridges are the least of one's worries.

Bridges don't bother me most of the time the very high ones that let the tall ships through can make me kind of uncomfortable I walked half way across the Golden Gate bridge a few years ago
-
When I was a child, I was afraid of bridges. I would always close my eyes. I think I was afraid there was no ground or road at the end and we all went into the water. :sad1:
-
I have a slight phobia with bridges in general. Funny enough, I was watching this video on YouTube about some of the longest (and most dangerous) bridges in the world. Between the Mackinac Bridge in Michigan and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland, I was freaking out when those bridges were highlighted.
-
Oh I love Bridges,,, any kind of bridges and tunnels. Small ones and Big ones and the longer the better . Guess I'm a little strange LOL Love older ones from way back ,,,, they are so neat looking. It really bothers me when they demolish old bridges and build new ones. I know it has to be done,,,, but I think ,,, there goes another part of history :(

If am driving on a wide bridge with wide roads and high sides it is not very long does not bother me. But when I drive over a narrow bridge with barely enough room for 2 cars and I can see over the sides or through rails and it is very high up over a steep canyon I tend to get a little squirrely before I am over. Once I am over I have to stop and get out for a few minutes to calm down.

I used to be terrified of bridges and I'd make my parents drive in the center lane if there was one. They're still not my favorite but I've grown more used to them now that I'm older.
-
After living in Portland, Oregon the last 50 years, bridges are just a matter of fact. They do call this Bridge City for a reason.
-
A little but I have very bad anxiety. Especially when driving.
-
Yes, really long high bridges...but as long as it gets me to the other end safely, then I am fine.
-
My anxiety does kick in but its not as bad as I thought each time I drive over one.
-
As long as the bridge is sturdy and have no issues I will drive over it.
-
I am normally okay going over bridges. However, in my state of Michigan, the American Society of Civil Engineers did a study of our infrastructure and we are in very poor condition. From what I understand, much of the country is in the same condition. Since it's going to take both federal and state money to remedy this situation, politicians have delayed and delayed and kicked the can down the road. In the end, for example, Michigan has an overall grade of D+ for our infrastructure. Twenty-seven other states were surveyed so far and none are in good shape. Even with the poor shape of roads and bridges, water and sewage systems, and communications infrastructure, some people here in Michigan are having fits that they may have to somehow help pay for this.

I may not squirm but I hate being on a bridge. Whether its long or short I still hate being on a bridge. I always fear it will collapse and I will end up in the water without a boat. Think about that every time i cross one.
-
I am not a big fan of long bridges either. I am always glad to get to the other after I cross them.
-
Bridges haven't ever bothered me a bit. Just close your eyes (as long as someone else is driving) while you go over them. lol
-
I was uncomfortable when I first moved to the area, but I've been here nearly 40 years and you have to cross bridges or tunnels to get almost anywhere here in Hampton Roads VA.
