Title: What's in a name?
Post by: linderlizzie on May 01, 2019, 04:41:14 pm
Do you have a name that dates you? People can sometimes tell how old you are by your name.  :confused1:

Or do you have a beautiful European (or other foreign) name that Americans made you shorten so that they could say it?  :sad1:

Just wondering.

I hate my first name.  It isn't an old sounding name.  It's Italian in origin.

My name doesn't date me.  My name is pretty, but uncommon.  I love my name.  My name is a family name, English in origin.

So my girls who like and/or dislike their names, could you tell us what they are? I particularly like a lot of foreign names. They're quite lovely.

My name is Linda so it dates me somewhat.  :-[ I was named after the song.

A lot of people hate their first name. I don't like mine but I have to live with it so....but it does date me and I see my first name in obitiuaries now. :(

When I was in my 'teens in the hospital, they could never get my name right on my ID tag. They named me Shannon, Shane, Sean (hey! I'm female!), and others that started with an "S." That was scary because of other patients but my last name was kind of rare, so they could tell me from the others. Of course, I got a new ID tag when they figured it out.

I was named after my mother's brother who died from leukemia at the age of 30.  It probably dates me, but I don't care.

I do not think my name "dates" me (whatever that means). But it means 'butterfly'. Aww.

Mine is neither. Still don't like it though. Lol. I want to legally shorten it when I get the chance. I just don't want to offend my parents...

Your name doesn't date you, it's the parents who choose the name.  Some of the names are ridiculous because people try to think of a name that they think is unique but it ends up being horrific.

I never thought of my name in that way (dating me). It's just my name!   ;)

My girlfriend has gotten a lot of grief because of her name. That is another reason why I can't stand people who are religious.
