Title: Shingles
Post by: nannycoe1 on June 01, 2019, 05:42:56 am
I have the shingles right at the hairline. I have never had them before, how have you dealt with them if you have had them?

Wow! I am so sorry to hear you have the shingles. I have never known anyone personally who has had them, so I can't offer any advice except to say you had better get the vaccine once you are over with it so it won't come back. I have heard it is a really painful thing to have.

I have never had them. My cousin has had them several times. Did you go to the doctor? Did they give you something to take?  Other than that you just deal with it.

Vaccines do not work like that.  I actually did not even know they had a vaccine for shingles. Certainly not something I would run out and have injected in to my body.

But it is like chicken pox if you have had them you do not need the vaccine.  And the vaccine is about worthless because I know several kids who had the vaccine and got chicken pox any way.

You can get shingles over and over.  And I think people who have them usually do have them over and over.  My cousin has had them several times.

They gave me really strong antiviral meds and prednisone. I hope this is the only time I get them.

She was taking something maybe two things and several times a day.  I know it was also really strong.  Hopefully you won't get them again.  Research because certain things can trigger them.  She can tell when it is fixing to happen.  But she has had them several times so she has figured out something that happens or a way she feels just prior.

I had in the pass; it was awful; I think my doctor prescribed something, may have been a topical rub just don't remember as it's been awhile but it was painful and very tender to touch for awhile. Check with your doctor.

My sister had them several years ago.  There was really nothing they could do for her for the pain and blisters.  She had some type of lotion to apply and I remember she took baths in oatmeal salts to relieve the itching.

My mom's friend had them one time. She ended up going to acupuncture and it really helped her.

Vaccines do produce antibodies to help fight the disease so that you may not get it at all or you will not get it as severely.

I'm sorry you are experiencing Shingles.  Fortunately I never have but I have a good friend who had it and she told me it was the most painful thing she had ever experienced.   I know the vaccination is recommended for people over 50.  I would definitely go to the doctor to get some relief, especially if it is just beginning.

Yeah the one thing my cousin had was something to run on them then I want to think something she took orally.

This is one vaccine I will never get.  That doesn't make sense to me at all.  Neither does the flu vaccine. Almost everyone I know who got that shot last year also got the flu.

I found this on emedicine.com:

"What worked for me was Excedrin every 4 to 6 hours and Colpac cold therapy wraps on the rash. I read not to use ice packs, but these have gel in them and don't sweat or freeze hard. I went from suffering all day and night to being able to sleep. I applied Neosporin plus pain cream on the rash, showered with Aveeno wash, and took Famvir antiviral medicine. It was gone in 3 weeks."

Sounds promising. Hope it helps if you try it.  :angel11:

I have heard it's very painful.  How you get better soon.  I never even had chicken pox.
