Title: What Do You Hoard More than Anything Else?
Post by: JaniceSW on June 04, 2019, 09:01:33 am
I have a very difficult time getting rid of clothing.  I can't even tell you why.  However, when I am looking through my closet and drawers, I will grab something to put in the donate pile and I will think that maybe I can wear it if I lose a bit of weight or that it will come back in style.  About 6 years ago I actually purged quite a few clothes but now I am back to where I need to again.

I do the same thing.  Even though I know in the back of my mind that I will never wear it,  I keep it 'just in case'.  I few months ago I finally forced myself to get rid of a bag of clothing.  (i'm running out of closet room)

Decorative and pretty things. I keep finding little trinkets and probably have more than I actually can use, but that's what happens when you are the the child of an interior designer who grew up watching decorating shows.

I guess for me it would have to be cookbooks.  I love them and will buy them quite often.  I might not ever use them, but I love to look through them and I don't ever want to give one up.

My would have to shower curtains and bath towels.  I change them quite frequently.  Another that I have a rule that if I have not worn it or used it a year then it is time to let it go.

I don"t hoard anything: actually I have Purple Heart come out like once every 5 weeks to make a pick up. I don't like keeping stuff around that I am not using.

I hoard panda bears. Anything panda - clothes, books, keychains, stuffed animals, etc. It's not terrible but I do have enough things that I could have a room styled in just panda things  :P

I hoard boxes and packing materials the most. You know when you buy something from ebay or amazon and it comes in a box with styrofoam, packing peanuts, bubble wrap, cardboard etc. I have tons of it from many purchases online over the years and can't bear to part with it because I feel it will come in handy to pack up something to ship out which it has and really did come in handy when I did some mass selling on ebay a couple of years ago. Some of the boxes are also bigger so I think I can reuse those for when we eventually move.

I don't really hoard anything.  I just don't donate things as often as I would like because it seems I'm always busy doing something else.  Most of the time I'm getting rid of all the junk my hubby brings in and that's almost a full time job.

I do not want to get rid of clothes that I do not wear. My Husband gets so mad at me because I have taken over his closet space. I feel like one day, I will wear them again.

I have a lot of clothes like that too, especially clothes from when I used to work. I am retired now and always go around in shorts and jeans. I haven't worn a skirt or dress from the time I worked 8 years ago yet I still have them in my closet. I too think well, maybe I will go somewhere where I will need a skirt. But that never comes up. Even when people go to church these days, they wear nice slacks, not skirts.

Whew! So glad I have something in common with someone. I have tons ob empty boxes that I save for when I want to sell on ebay...but I just can't get around to putting my stuff on the site. My books, steins, old pottery/bowls, beer mugs, and other stuff that I WANT to sell but never get around to it. Is there something wrong with me?

I'm still wearing clothes from the '80s! I don't know why. i have nice clothes that I bought and decided to "keep for going somewhere" which lately, I don't get anywhere, not even the store.  I often receive postcards for Purple Heart Organization that they'll be in the area, but never gather my clothes for them because "I might wear this outfit some day." We forgot to build closets when doing this house (except for master bedroom) so my clothes are in 4 large totes. separated by summer slop clothes and summer dress clothes...same for winter clothes.

Nothing, anymore.
After I got divorced ten years ago, I did a major purge, then an even bigger one about 4 years ago when I downsized. At least twice a year I go through and get rid of stuff, whether it be old cosmetics or clothing, if I haven't used it or looked at it in 6 months, BYE. I rarely regret getting rid of things, and most things can easily be replaced. I find clutter very stressful.

I've noticed I have a habit of buying notepads that I just lay around for decoration.  It's to the point where I have stacks of them in the living room and my bedroom.

I'm guilty too.  I said I wasn't buying anymore until I move and even then I'll have to buy a shef specifically or them because it's so many.

I donated literally half of my clothes last year and I'm planning to donate another 30 percent the beginning of next year.

I collect bank accounts and until recently kept about a dozen accounts that were not paying any interest. I had opened them because there was a nice cash bonus associated with the opening. Because they were not working for me I would define myself as hoarding something that served no purpose. I have started closing them and putting them into other accounts that pay interest. I still open non-interest bearing accounts for bonuses but I need to set a stale date in my calendar/phone for closing the ones that do not pay interest a year after they are opened. I have a Chase account that I received three dollars for opening roughly nine years ago. the bank location is convenient and I have a few point to click site rewards being deposited into it. I need to reroute those rewards and close the account because it serves as nothing but a transfer conduit right now.

I hoard clothes and other things.  I gave away about 30 bags of clothes to the Epilepsy Foundation this year.  My problem is that as I purchased new clothes, I never gave anything away.  My clothes filled all the closets in my home and elsewhere.

Nothing now, I have sold half my shoes, and  sell everything I do not wear anymore. I have 3 consignment stores I frequent. In fact made 70.00 dollars Yesterday just by selling some clothes.

And If I buy something, I sell something. I have zero purses.

Like Bragging above, I keep a lot of old clothes that were my good work clothes.  I usually worked in an office.  Figure if I go somewhere nice, I can wear them.  But usually only go to the gym and wear workout clothes.

The weirdest thing... ingredients for baking.  I bought some chocolate that was marked down from Easter.  4 years ago.  During a recent move I realized I still had it along with chocolates from Christmas.  WOW! We've had more chocolate in our candy dishes over the last 2 months than we have in 8 years.  To my surprise it all tasted fresh and none of it had that waxy coating cheaper chocolates tend to get after years of sitting through temperature changes.

Nothing that I can think of because I have spent most of my adult life with a husband that hoarded and left with a "closet" hoard from my mom.  It was painful but I basically started over when they died and got rid of almost everything.

Emergency Food!!  Is this really hoarding?

After watching Extreme Coupons on the videos, I became an Extreme Emergency food hoarder for a rainy day!!
Finding ways to save money and buy in quantity really makes this easy!!

Hmmm, good question.  I suppose mine would be paper.  If I use paper but not fully I’ll save it for scrap paper to write small notes or write a quick thought or number down, maybe a grocery list.  At the moment I think I have more scrap paper then paper LOL.  Instead of seeing it as hoarding it’s more like preserving the planet doing my part to not waste paper where it comes from trees.  But, one could really view it as a hoarding issue I suppose.

I don't think I "hoard" anything.  We downsized earlier this year and have donated lots of items from every category.  It is quite freeing to simplify.

I formerly said nothing but after thinking about it long and hard about it if I do hoard something it would be food and my mom grew up in the depression era not me so I don't know why except it started in 2008 after the financial "collapse" we ate out of food banks and some of it was not good.  I appreciated it but we got moldy and way out of date food most of the time so it was hard times.  Now I can afford to eat pretty much what I want but yes I kind of hoard food like I am going to go hungry.

I used to hoard basketball cards when I was much younger. I was going through one of my 'phases' and basketball was one of them. I used to bother my mother constantly whenever we went to the mall (where they had stores that sold the cards, 10 per pack).

My husband and I use a protein meal replacement that comes in a powder form.  Each package comes with a cute little plastic scoop.  The scoop also has an equally cute handle.   :)

Well these scoops really come in handy when I measure my pets food.  For whatever reason, I have saved every scoop from every package for who knows how long?  ::)

Needless to say, we have an overabundance of cute scoops.   ;)
