Title: Chromebook
Post by: JaniceSW on July 04, 2019, 06:48:21 am
I will probably have to get a new laptop soon and am thinking of getting a Chromebook.  My budget will be around $500.  Anybody on the forum have one or know somebody who has one?  I am just looking for a little input.  I am wondering about the pros and cons from actual users or people familiar!

I have heard of it.  I would suggest something like the HP laptops they have at Walmart that are around $300.  They are good computers.  I have looked at them before.

Cannot help you with Chromebook have always purchased HP products and still have a laptop that is over 15 years that works well.  My husband uses that one since he only searches the internet about cars and plays games

I don't think a Chromebook  has a disk drive.  So if you want to run a game disk or any kind of disk then you have to get an external disk drive.

That isn't a big deal.  I use to have a netbook and it did not have an internal drive so I had to get an external disk drive.  But if you spend the money for both items you may as well go ahead and get the laptop with an internal drive.  Some people don't do anything to ever need it.

I have an acer google chromebook. Yes it does not have a disc drive and it runs off of the google platform . There are some programs I can't use on it but the plus side is I can use google chrome as a browser which allows me to go on mostly all of my sites including fusioncash.  I was lucky to get this on amazon for $159.00 as a refurbished unit. It also depends on what size you want. mine is a 15 inch monitor. I also just bought my daughter a laptop for $250.00 on amazon and sent it to her. it was not a known brand but it was a windows laptop.  I hope this helps :)

I am just curious as to why you have chosen chromebook?  I have never really heard anything excellent about this particular machine.  Most people seem to be saying the same thing I did.  Go with HP.  Like I said you can get a good laptop that is HP for around $300 at Walmart.

I have an Acer chromebook.   Its my second one and I really like it. In fact my brother who's in the computer business recommended to me.  Got it at Amazon for $200 plus.  There was a learning curve for me. I was used to decades of HP, Microsoft, etc.  I'm now an expert on Google docs, google sheets, the cloud, etc. The computer itself is very light weight and easy to haul around. When this one bites the dust, I'll probably get another.

I have heard of Chromebook, but no experience with it; I tend to stay with HP or Dell and they are generally affordable, less then $500 especially if you catch a good sale.
