cant believe how stupid people are. read a story where a woman met a man online he said he was divorced with 2 grown kids. he worked for chevron or something like that. they were suppose to give him 1.4 million yeah right. he was able to dupe this gal for thousands. This is suppose to happen a lot on line. once again I ask how can people be so stupid???

Well she is stupid. If "they" are suppose to give him 1.4 million dollars then why did he need money from her? She is an idiot. I am not giving money to anyone.

Yes, people are stupid. Call it like it is. You meet somebody who is fixing to get millions from Uncle Pablo in some remote area of the world but he has to sneak the money out of the country so his government doesn't know and you give him money to help him and he is going to give you 7 billion back. You deserve to lose everything you have.

It's really not that hard to do stupid things. We all do them at times. :silly:
I'm glad my mistakes are not posted for the world to see. And I hope that I would not be judged for any of the senseless things I have done in the past or will in the future. :notworthy:

I wonder myself - but wouldn't call them stupid. One of you r responses says gullible - and I think they are lonely! If you have someone with you or a close friend, they cam think the situation through with you.

We all make mistakes. This poor woman led with her heart and trusted in humanity. It was a few thousand dollar lesson and, hopefully, she learned to look for warning signs in the future. There are so many scams out there. I deal with people that are scammed all the time. Reviewing hundreds of thousands of transactions on a daily basis, looking for peaks in activity in different jurisdictional corridors is part of my day time job. Whether it is people who are enticed by on line relation ships, looking for a good deal on non existent puppies, or looking to help the less fortunate. We call these people victims rather than questioning their intelligence. My children were taught a great many, derogatory, words that we do not need to use. "stupid" was one of them. They knew not to name call or belittle others before they were age five. I have not met people who are perfect, do not make mistakes and are able to look down on others as being "stupid" until now...reading this post. It is always hard for me to understand people's need to denigrate others. Hope everyone has a fine (and perfect) day.

if they would only learn that as soon as they ask for money get off of there. they don't mean what they are saying.

lol So you do not like the word stupid. I talked to a cop once who wanted me to identify someone. I hesitated and I finally said well basically they look like a bunch of thugs. I described a little more. He laughed and said well ya call em like ya see em. It is what it is.
People ARE stupid. You can deny that if you want. Have you seen the nasty videos where people are doing disgusting things to food, drinks, and even mouthwash and videoing that and putting it on the internet? That is stupid.
Maybe I was just raised to be able to think before I act. I don't fall for scams. I KNOW I do not owe the IRS any money. I KNOW I do not have any student loans. I KNOW my electric bill has been paid and that if it is late some random caller is not going to leave it on in exchange for a couple hundred in game stop cards. (rolling eyes here) People need to think before they act.
Yes, some of the elderly who get scammed it is truly a scam and I would call them a victim. But a lot of these are just pure stupidity. I would never give some idiot on the internet money.

Then you probably do not air your dirty laundry on Facebook either. lol. I have seen people do that and when it doesn't get the reaction they want they get all mad. Or get mad when people take both sides of the fence. They wanted everyone to feel sorry for them.
There is a difference between truly being scammed and just being stupid. I have a family member who a few years ago was on some dating sites and she met some dude and decided to go to another state to meet him. She had a picture (she had no idea who this guy was or if this pic was really him) I am not sure who all other than me knew she was going, and I didn't know much more than the state she was going to...
He was not who he pretended to be at all. She got away and texted to let me know she was on her way home.
Another time she met a guy online and let him in her home. She had $2500 in her home and before he left one day he took the envelope( it was in laying on her desk). I call stuff like this stupid. Not being a victim. Wake up and look around you. This ain't the 1950s. You cannot trust people like you could 80 - 100 years ago.
People have a different way of wording things. Doesn't mean they are wrong. I am not in to the PC nonsense of today's society. lol

Well like Granny said if it sounds to good to be true then it most likely a lie and not fall for it. But some people only see the dollar signs and nothin else.

I am so surprised people fall for that. I get spam calls about 10 times a day, they range from the IRS is going to arrest me to my internet has been compromised. Of course if I push the number they say too to speak to a representative the person on the other side speaks very broken English. I have always loved the one that says my window computer has a virus and I need to download their program to get rid of it. I always tell them I have a MAC computer and they say they dialed the wrong number.

I do know someone who that happened too and you might not think she is as stupid as you think after you hear her side of things.

I would, if i were going to talk to them, push for how they dialed the wrong number. People are so stupid. There was some indian dude calling my Mammaw a few years ago and saying her computer was sending them info that her computer had been compromised. What I told him was not real nice. I am sure "some" people will be all butthurt and say I was wrong but NO when you try to scam me or my family you deserve whatever happens.
I told her all the time not to talk to these people.
Right now I am getting 2-3 calls a day about federal school loans (which I never had) and they even tell me a reference number to have handy when I call them back. Yeah that will happen.

Well I can't say anything as I'm afraid I would be a hypocrate. Yes I'm very gullable and I know that's something I need to change. Nonetheless I deffinately wouldn't call her stupid sometimes we get so blinded by our own beliefs that we can't see what is right infront of us!

I think what this is really about is how lonely and desperate for love and companionship some people are. It is really sad that this is the state of affairs. I've heard statistics over and over that there is a large percentage of people who admit they are lonely for various reasons, whether it be age, disability, loss of family for one reason or another, no transportation, or whatever the issues are.

Its messed up and i hate people like that. Still if anyone asks for money that you don't know online that should be a red flag. Unless you been around a person you don't really know them no matter how long you talk to them. Was taught at an early age to always question anything that sounds off. Hopefully the person learns from this mistake in judgement. Its easy to call someone stupid for making a mistake but no ones perfect in this world & everyone makes mistakes

People with online dating isn't stupid - they are lonely, vunerable and and wants someone in their life to hold and care for just like anyone else. Although, I don't understand about giving a perfect stranger your money. Just because someone calls you baby, darling and all the rest of the endearments, means you no good. They come off right away with the endearments. That makes me see red because it's all a scam.

Even if you are around people in person every day for many years you don't really know them. I have learned that. You don't KNOW any one. Or what they do or would do in secret.
People are also STUPID. They think they can get online and they are hidden. Their identity is hidden. People don't know who they are. If their real first and last name was attached to EVERYTHING they posted and every profile they had online they would act a lot different.
And yes people who fall for this are STUPID. Not lonely. And sadly, I have a distant cousin that has had guys she met online take quite a bit of money from her.

I'm usually an heiress or the money is at an airport waiting to be picked up, or something like that. I have noticed is these emails always get heavy a couple weeks before a terror attack and I'll get more than one in a week.

So you have got this like, what, twice? This is a scam that runs constantly. Not a week before a terror attack. That doesn't even make sense. I get phone calls, multiple phone calls, daily claiming to be the IRS or some idiot saying they are collecting on a federal student loan. Well dumb butt go find somebody with some sort of student loans. smh
I also get emails almost daily saying they need ME to help them sneak millions of dollars out of their country. Not sure why they think I would help them cheat their government and break the law but oh well.
People fall for it. And give them money. That is all they are after. Quick easy money.

I guess. I just don't see how anybody could be that desperate. You can live your life just fine without a boyfriend/girlfriend. Get a dog. Get a cat. Heck, get a goldfish.

Wow I just can't believe how educated and intelligent most of these women are that end up getting duped out of their life savings. I am lonely my husband of 34 years passed in 2013 but I tell you this if some guy came into my life telling some tale about how he needs to borrow money etc etc I am not even that gullible and lonely.

People are too nice and want to see the best in others, sometimes are blinded by things like love most of the time. Things that others can see from 10 miles away! It is sad, but people hunt for these kind souls so they can take advantage of them. What gets me is the ones that let it happen over and over again. Live and learn peeps!

I guess you are right. I guess if you are lonely and really searching and someone seems to know all the right things to say and really acts like they love you then maybe this can happen. I have been taken advantage of more than once. I cannot see me giving anybody even $100 let alone thousands. But what you say I guess does make sense. I guess if somebody doesn't have any family and think they have found this person who really cares about them. I can see how it can happen. But if the person is familiar enough to be on dating sites they should be familiar enough to have been around online long enough to know about scams like that. :(

I don't think she was so much stupid as trusting. There are some stupid people out there. My daughter has a convenience store and you wouldn't believe the number of stupid questions that get asked.

People pray upon the vulnerable. Sometimes it has nothing to do with a persons intelligence at all. A scammer will always come up with ways to scam that will never end.

I believe everyone is intelligent in their own way; even if they make mistakes.
Sometimes people are naive. Sometimes they're gullible. Sometimes they're desperate for love and willing to take risks that they might eventually regret.
I'm hypersensitive and I know when someone is trying to manipulate me so that's how I'm able to avoid some of the cons that exist. Also, I avoid the dating websites.
