National Root Beer Float Day (August 6)
You're un-American if you don't like root beer floats...just sayin'. This August 6 if you go into any participating A&W restaurant from 2 to 8 p.m., you can get a free root beer float, no purchase necessary! If you're feeling generous, customers are encouraged to make a donation to Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
National Waffle Day (August 24)
Waffle House is clearly the superior waffle joint, so treat yourself to a free waffle and honor Leslie Knope when you sign up to be a member of the Waffle House Regulars Club.
National Coffee Day (September 29)
Free cups of coffee are abundant on this day, so be sure to hit up popular places like Dunkin' Donuts, Krispy Kreme, Tim Hortons, Wawa, Peet's Coffee & Tea and Eistein Bros. Bagels to get your caffeine fix in.

Did you know August 10 is National S'mores Day? Here's s'more ideas.
The first S’more recipe recorded can be found in a book of recipes published by a company called Campfire Marshmallows during the early 1920s.
The sweet invention is usually credited to Girl Scout Loretta Scott Crew. Her award-winning recipe entitled "Some Mores" first earned a place of honor in the Girl Scout handbook in 1927.
Usually listed as one of the top favorite campfire recipes smores are best prepared as the camp fire flames lower and the embers begin to glow:
Ingredients:
1 large marshmallow
1 graham cracker
1 chocolate candy bar
Instructions:
Place marshmallow on a stick. Heat the marshmallow over hot embers until it begins to melt. Break the graham cracker in half. Place the hot marshmallow and a piece of chocolate on one half of the graham cracker. Top with the second piece of graham cracker to form a sandwich. Let the marshmallow cool a bit before serving.

I did not like root beer very much as a kid. We had a root beer place on the corner of our street that also sold hot dogs. I got sick once after eating a hot dog and root beer there. I still eat hot dogs occasionally, but I haven't touched a root beer since!

I love root beer. I have not had root beer for along time but I think next time I am at Burger King or something I am going to get one. lol

I don't really care for root beer either. I do like that there is just about a day for anything and it is nice when you get something free or discounted because of the day.

Usually, I match books to existing holidays. Today, though, I have the pleasure of posting a review of a book that established a holiday. On September 15, 2009 teacher Terry Shay introduced his class to Peter H. Reynold’s The Dot. From that one event grew a national and then an international celebration of creativity and the freedom to make art with your heart. All around the world, school children and adults are inspired on this day to make their mark and celebrate creativity, courage, and collaboration.

National Dance Day was launched in 2010 by Nigel Lythgoe, the co-creator of So You Think You Can Dance and co-founder of American Dance Movement in partnership with American congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton who introduced a National Dance Day resolution to express support for dance as a form of valuable exercise and of artistic expression. As of 2019, National Dance Day is celebrated in the United States annually on the third Saturday in September; the next celebration is September 21, 2019. Prior to 2019 celebrations were held on the last Saturday in July.

These are holidays that some retail stores and business offer freebies and extras on the day! I really don't know much more than that! I find several sites like this one that have different holidays on the same days..go figure!

My liking of root beer is in direct dichotomy with my distaste for waffles. I really, really love French toast, like pancakes a lot, and barely tolerate waffles. I'm not sure what the difference is, but I think maybe it's all the square indentations that it's hard to get butter into, LOL! :peace:

I guess I missed seeing it in this thread, however, it is in reference to a day celebrating root beer floats -- which I love! In fact, I did celebrate that day this past August. I headed over to the nearest A&W for my root beer float. You are correct in saying that no purchase was necessary, too. A&W has to be one of the best root beers around and I'm likely to repeat it next year.
