A percentage of people started vaping; partly because, vaping was thought to be a healthier choice than smoking.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is advising people to stop vaping.
So far, five people have died in a multi-state outbreak of lung disease believed to be a result of vaping.
The CDC has also gotten reports of nearly 500 vape-related illnesses.
"Right now the CDC has a big problem with vaping and E-cigarettes," says Dr. Richard Oyler.
Vaping could put your life in danger. The CDC says a mystery chemical exposure has caused an outbreak of a deadly lung disease.
"There have been 5 deaths and 450 confirmed cases so a little bit more research is need to peg exactly what it is, but the symptoms right now shortness of breath, coughing and chest pain," says Dr. Oyler.
The CDC says many patients report using e-cigarette products with liquids that contain cannabinoid products, like (THC), but with many flavors vapors can choose from and the harmful chemical being unknown the CDC is advising everyone to stop doing it, so is local doctor Richard Oyler.
"They are certain it's causing harm they just aren't quite sure what it is. It's not an infection, so antibiotics wont help it but they think its something in the E-Cig itself. There are a lot of theories some say it's a vitamin E like substance, it could be the manufacturer, it's unclear but the CDC is on the right path," he says.
Dr. Oyler says his clinic has seen vaping patients struggling to breathe.
His office is on high alert for the disease. He says asking if you vape is now a new routine question.
Have you ever tried vaping?
-
Yea my son starting vaping right before all the bad publicity I mentioned a couple of things I read to him but he is going to do what he's going to do.....past the age where he is going to take my advice. I used to smoke and he wouldn't let up until I finally quit but it's different now that its him. I do what I can to talk sense to him and then I just pray about it.
-
I don't do this and absolutely hate when idiots do it in public and think it is okay to blow the "smoke" from it in my face. Anyone should have been able to know from the start it was not safe. But like debidoo said, people are going to do what they want to, and you can't really stop them.
-
i have tried it before and did not like it. i even know someone who tried to use it as a way to try and quit smoking actual cigarettes and it did not work.
-
My oldest daughter does. After everything I have been seeing on the news she has been getting an earful every time I see her. Very scary.
-
No need No way
-
No! Vaping is no safer than smoking is!
-
My Husband and Son both vaped but have decided to stop because of the warnings that are coming down.
-
I have never smoked or vaped, and I've never understood why they claimed vaping was healthier. The only thing that should go into your lungs is clean air. I have enough trouble breathing when the air quality is bad, due to wildfire smoke or pollution.
They have been telling people for decades that smoking causes cancer, but people still do it. I don't see how vape warnings would be any different.
-
My oldest son vapes. I haven't tried to talk to him yet, but it's scary with all we are hearing about it being harmful. I will do what I can to point him in the right direction, but he will have to WANT to quit before it will work.

Because the makers of the Vape things wanted you to use their products. Every product out there the people behind it tell you that their product is better. More healthy. Just trying to make a sell.
-
Nope...and never will...it's sad to see so many people doing it because it's just as bad as regular smoking....
-
no
-
No. I have never vaped. Have been smoke-free for 1 year and 3 months now.
-
I stopped smoking in may and have vapped some but am trying not to now
-
I don't, but I have people who do. What really upsets me is the companies who make this stuff. They don't give a damn about people's lives. They only care about money. The companies do testing, they know, but they don't care.
-
I don't and thankfully so far none of my family does either. Companies don't get a crap about anyone but themselves. It sickens me to see and hear all the scary stories about the e-cigarets exploding. You know they'd think twice if something like that happened to their kids or family members.
-
God No! I stop smoking 14 years ago. Thanks be to God!
-
Don't vape or smoke cigarettes. Don't drink alcohol either.
-
Never ave and never will. It's no better than smoking.
-
No way! My son does and I am hoping that he will someday quit. With all the issues going on with vaping I would hope he will quit.
-
I did when I stopped smoking but now I no longer do both.
-
I used to smoke cigarettes for almost 40 years and I quit a feel years ago and I'll admit I vape now but I make my own juice with candy flavoring and distilled water so no bad chemicals in my juice
-
I tried it only because of wanting to try a flavor. I did not like it.
-
My son and daughter both used it to quit smoking, only used it for a short period of time they have both been quit ten years.
-
Vaping is totally illogical and I can't imagine why anyone would do it. Intentionally sucking contaminated air into your lungs does not make sense to me.
-
I am a light smoker and hubby is/was a heavy smoker. I am going cold turkey on my and doing pretty good. I once thought about vaping, but seeing some of the stuff going on I figured I didn't need or want it. Hubby is on some meds to help him quit and dong quite well with it. Now if only my niece and sis-in-law would quit vaping but so far it hasn't bothered them but I figured the odds were too high for me.
-
No I don’t I’ve never even smoked don’t see the need in it it’s a nasty nasty habit but I can’t afford anyway
-
Some like vise it's like a real cig. Trying to quit smoking down to 4 or so a day. Still like those blasted cigs.
-
No I do not vape. I've never smoked. Never had the desire.....actually I dislike smoking intensely. My Dad smoked and coughed/hacked for years.
-

There is no Down To (unless it's ZERO) that counts as quitting. The hook is still in you until you get rid of it all together. That's why they call it, "Kick the Habit", it takes brute force, but you can do it, cold turkey. I thought I quit more times than I could count (never lasted more than 18 hours), but when I finally REALLY quit it was for good (lasted 55 years and counting). No pills, no patches, no hypnotism, just DO IT.
-
I don't understand vaping at all. It's clearly just as bad for you as cigarettes and looks way dumber.
-
No, I have never tried vaping.
-
i love when ppl say "i dont understand why they say vaping is safer than smoking" come on a company will say whatever they can to get u to buy their product!! duh
-
No, and its not something people should be taking part in, its very dangerous. People think its safe to use, but having it blow up in your face, that's not safe. They are more dangerous to your health than regular cigarettes. We took a class on the use of smoking Vapors and cigarettes. The insides of your body will look really bad, the lungs, heart, kidneys and its not a pretty sight to see. Second hand smoke is just as bad. I either will move away from you or tell you not to smoke near me. Be respectful of others who don't smoke.
-
The big cigarette manufacturers were just as excited to sell the vaping gadgets as they were cigarettes. They've known for years how dangerous they are but just keep on keepin' on.
I've read that all the flavored vapes are very popular among youngsters. That makes me sick.
That being said, I think maybe that when smoking first started, it was not quite as harmful to people since the companies had not gotten around to making smoking addictive with nicotine, etc. Not sure of this; just a hunch.
:fish:
-
I said Vapors, but meant Vaping.
-
no i would never smoke or vape
-
I never vape or smoke. They can cause health problems so I would avoid.
-
no i dont smoke or vape...daughter and son in law does..just found out granddaughter does...son in law works at a hemp shop that sells vape products..
-
I use to smoke but I quit a long time ago now. I have always thought vaping was unhealthy just to begin with before I heard anything bad about it. To me it is just common sense.
-
Never have, never will end of story!!!
-
so many high school aged kids vape these days because they think it's cool. I just hope they stop doing it.
-
I have tried it before but didn't continue, not for me.
-
I do not. I have tried it but never stuck too it. I too have heard all the terrible things that are happening with vaping.
-
I started using an e cig to help me to quit smoking. Once I weened myself off real cigarettes I then switched to a vaporizer so that I could step down the nicotine. My vaporizer now contains NO nicotine and I only use it occasionally when I get the urge for a cigarette which is not very often. I probably only take a few drags off in a week.
It's probably time for me to give it up considering all the warnings out there. I can say that it did help me quit smoking. I am 7 1/2 years off smokes and proud of it.
-
I do not and never will. But when Vaping came out my first thought, was why would you think is safer than smoking? Vaping contains nicotine and who knows what kind of chemicals it should be worse. Here we are a few years later and my thinking was proven right. Go figure.
Hopefully the vapers stop soon. My son=in=law had just started and as soon as he saw the news quit which is good for him
-
I smoked cigs for a couple years and quit. Decided to stay away from any nicotine at this point as I still get cravings to this day.
-
I have tried it before but didn't continue.
-
I have never done it but my sister did for a short time. Luckily she didn’t do it for long.
-
no
-
No I do not
-
I have never smoked or vaped, but I know many people who do. It is straight up bad either way.
-
NO - and it is terrible that people are dying from it. Vaping started 7-8 years ago and it has just been recently there are problems with it. Why aren't they looking into this?
-
I do not but my nephew and brother in law does it now I should get my dad into it as well just for the $$ saved from my area and a tad less harmful then cigs.
-
Because of my future profession in public health, I am not a huge fan (or participant) of vaping. Several people erroneously believe vaping to be a much safer and inexpensive form of tobacco smoke. But with the emergence of the recent vaping illness outbreak, I tend to disagree with that statement.
-
Smoking and vaping do not interest me. :-X
-
I don't because my lungs are so bad anyway. I used to smoke and wish vaping was around when I quit. I think it would have been easier. What they are saying is that the people dying are getting their juice from lesser sources. Kinda like black market juice. Maybe it's cheaper. It you stick with the stuff that you're supposed to use, I think it's pretty safe.
-
Thank goodness I have never gotten hooked on smoking or have tried vaping. Long ago when smoking was considered the "thing to do" and everyone thought it was sophisticated, I tried it on and off for about 6 months. Every time I lit one up I would wonder when I was going to get used to it and like it. I never did and eventually just stopped. I probably could never smoke more than 4-5 cigaretted a day and rarely finished the entire cigarette. Thank goodness again!!
-
Nope, but my sister does.
-
I didn't know what Vaping was until I saw it on TV. And no I would not be vaping although so many people have gotten sick because I think they are over doing it. Just IMO!!!!!!!
-
No, I do not vape!
-
No way. More people are dying from vaping than from smoking cigs
-
I smoked for 32 years before I was able to quit and quitting was just about the hardest thing I have ever done in my whole life, so I am certainly not going to get involved with vaping at this point, especially with deaths and illnesses linked to vaping too.
-
Never tried it, never wanted to. I have better ideas on how to spend my money. Priorities.
-
I stopped smoking in May and vape sometimes when I get a urge
-
Thankfully NO
-
No. My kids' doctor always makes sure to tell them its not as safe as it appears.
-
I did a survey once on vaping but I thankfully don't smoke anything.
-
No, and made my Dad stop smoking years ago. It helped that I threw out all the ashtrays.
-
No and I have never been a smoker; with all the bad press press about vaping not sure why people are still doing this but like anything, I guess it is their personal choice.
-
A strong (and resounding) NO. And I do not believe that it is a much "safer" alternative to using cigarettes, cigars, and other forms of tobacco use. Case in point: Consider the now-nationwide vaping illness epidemic in the United States.
-
No and I have no interest in it.
-
HECK NO!!! Its so bad for you!
-
Just smoke ceegars…. :peace:
-
No I don't vape but my son does. I smoked for years and thank goodness was finally able to stop. I wish I had stopped sooner but at least I was able to finally do it but it was one of the hardest struggles of my life.
-
I quit smoking many years ago. I wish there was vaping back then, might have been easier to quit. I don't mind when others vape and the "smoke" doesn't bother me. It usually smells good and is pleasant. I've thought about taking it up but my lungs are so bad I don't want to do anything to make them worse. I don't think it's been around long enough, yet, to really know the long term effects of it.
-
I have never and would never try vaping of any kind. In my opinion, smoking is smoking, regardless of what it is.
-
NO and never will! I quit smoking 50 years ago and will stay that way :-X
