Title: Points for Purchases
Post by: countrygirl12 on October 01, 2019, 12:31:25 pm
Several companies have offers where you can get points for purchasing their products and submitting a picture of a receipt.  Anybody do any of these?  Sometimes you can get something pretty cool but it takes forever to save enough points.

Years ago Marlboro had the points on the cigarette packages.  Til crybaby liberals were able to get it stopped.
I got a lot of good stuff from that.  And never smoked a day in my life!

Guess I am the only one who does this.

I get points for scanning receipts or scanning items in stores but am a bit skeptical about purchasing products (With the exception of one of my apps) unless I really need the item....glad to hear it works for you countrygirl12

Ibotta has been good for a few hundred dollars, Trunow adds about ten dollars, Receipt hog adds about forty dollars to the bank account,  and Checkout 51 is good for about twenty dollars-all per year...I figure it is worth snapping the occasional picture of a receipt to make money on things that I am already purchasing. I am up to a fifty dollar gift certificate with Receiptpal and a thirty dollar gift card with Fetch. It took two parties (neither appearing to be crying at the time negating the need for name calling) to vote out rewards given by cigarette companies. Even though one may not have been smoking cigarettes to have earned prizes, the large majority of prize winners were smoking in order to qualify and, in essence, shortening their lives in order to earn low payouts and/or trinkets. The move against prizes earned most likely stemmed from the law suit against Camel which utilized an animated character believed to be appealing to children younger than age eighteen as a figure associated with being cool.

I wonder if the app you scan receipts in to is the one I just started using.  I have never cashed out.  Hoping it is legit.  The one I was using for points have changed and now in order to log in to the site you have to allow cookies and you have to allow them to track you.  I cashed out all my points except for a little over 200 and think I am going to quit.  I finally was able to log in some where else besides my computer.  Then deleted the cookies.  They do not need to track or monitor me.  And I told them that.

But sometimes you can get some neat prizes.

I like Ibotta.  Never used Receipt Hog and I have done well with Checkout51.  But having referrals helps.  I got $20 for 2 referrals.

Have you ever cashed out on Receipt Pal?  I just started using that recently.

As for the Marlboro what I said is correct.  It WAS a bunch of crybabies that got that stopped.  And no one was smoking just for the points on the packages.  Smoking did not decline because the company was forced to stop putting points on the packages.  And I thought the Camel thing was after Marlboro.  Another example of people being cry babies.  These people could care less about others health.  It is a control thing.  Like the ones who I think in California who were trying to get the Large drinks at McDonald's banned.  Nobody has a right to tell me what I can or cannot drink.

I don't drink caffeine.  It is a stimulant.  So how mad would people be if a group tried to ban caffeine? No caffeine drinks.  No more caffeine in your morning coffee?  I have a feeling a lot of people would be really upset.

If you mean places like Ibotta, then yes, I have tried them. I just forget to use them and when I do it's too late!

I have probably done something similar in the past but can't think of it at the moment.  I know I used to get gas cards from BP by doing something but it was so long ago I don't recall the details.  I like doing anything I can to earn points and free stuff.

I have Shopkick, which is where you go into a store and scan items and you purchase certain items they have and you get points.  I also have Ibotta, where you buy items they feature at certain stores and you get cash back.

No I mean things like Marlboro where they use to have points on the package.  You save the points and redeem for a prize of some sort.  Kool-Aid use to do it too but they don't anymore.  Coke use to do it.  They still have codes but you just use to enter contests.  There are several companies that you can enter codes or proof of purchase of the product and you get points and then you can redeem the points for some sort of a prize.

I just starting using Fetch Rewards which works directly with popular brands to bring you everyday savings on thousands of products throughout any grocery store. You can earn points for cash and savings.

This isn't what I am talking about at all. But those apps are good.  I am talking about product specific where you save points found out that product and then can exchange the points for a prize from that company specific to that company.  Like a cup or a bowl or a shirt that has THEIR logo on it.

Again this is not what I am talking about at all.  Not sure why it is so hard to understand.  I am not talking about an app. Read thru all the comments not just the first one to get a better grasp on what I am talking about.

I have never tried one of those points-for-purchases plans because it seems like too much work and time involved. Maybe I am wrong about that though.

How do you make so much money with Ibotta?  I'm not sure if i'm just not using it correctly, don't understand it or what but I haven't made much at all with it.  There's never anything in there that I buy and I don't know how to use it for online purchases.  Maybe I need to find an ibotta tutorial or something.  I do the fetch rewards and receipt pal also but it's really slow going for me.  Most of my receipts are only worth 25 points.

I was with Ibotta for a while then when I got close to their ridiculously high cashout they disabled my account.

I do really well with Ibotta as well.  It is not hard.  You have to buy the things that are on the app.  When you scan your Walmart receipt next week you will find things you bought the previous week.  Or I do anyway.

I used to do Ibotta and Receipt Pal, both receipt scanning apps that gave you points. They were pretty cool, but I just got tired of dealing with them for so little money. But now that I think about it, I may start working with those apps again. I guess I'm in the make-any-little-money-I can mode again, LOL!  :peace:

I really like what Metsrock69 is doing.  I might have to experiement with some of those apps in the future.  Swagbucks now has a feature called In-Store promotions where you scan and upload receipts too.

This is my problem with ibotta. They have tons of items but nothing I want to buy. Every once in a while I'll find something and it's 10 cents here and 25 cents there, but at that rate, I'll never cash out.  :-\

The closest I've gotten to what you described is through Swagbucks. I can get Swagbucks (points) for purchasing certain products and taking a picture of the receipt.  It's a cool way to pick up a few extra Swagbucks, especially if the item is something you would be purchasing anyway!

I never got credit for that.  It said my items were wrong. No they weren't. I submitted a support ticket and they sent back and said you submitted this to the wrong department (answered by a real person) and to re-submit it.  Well I did not know who else to submit it to and asked if they could just forward it to the correct dept.  I guess not since I never heard anything else.  SO I did not try again.

This has nothing to do with sites.  Read the first comment again.  I am talking about an individual company that only they offer the points found on their products.  And you redeem the points thru their website.  For example KOOL AID use to have points on their packages I think it was 3 to 5 points.  Depending on the size of the package.  The big canisters had around 10 points.  The points were ONLY found on their product.  Then you could cash the points in on THEIR WEBSITE for prizes only they offered.

I use Ibotta but you do not get points on that site.  It is a coupon site.  I have heard of a couple of the others you mentioned but do not use them.  And no idea what Ulta is.  The thing with Ibotta is you are not really making money.  It is just online coupons.  So you get the money back later but you have to spend money to get it.  That is good as long as it is something you are buying anyway.  I know people who go through and buy everything on the list and then really think they are making big bucks when they get a payout on the site.  But most of the things they bought they did not need, want or even use. :(

I belong to Kelloggs Family Rewards. They don't have actual points listed on their packages like your Kool-Aid example, but if you send them a photo of your store receipt with any Kelloggs product on it, you can get credit for points. The point values vary depending on what and how much you buy - and they give credit for some other non-Kelloggs products - maybe they are affiliated or subsidiary companies, I don't know. I think maybe Keebler products credit, also Pringles and Cheez-It? - along with some others that I cannot recall.  It isn't much, I've earned about $30 in three years. But I sometimes forget to scan an eligible receipt and it is all on stuff I would have already purchased anyway. Points are redeemable for a lot of different items.

So far all of my redemptions have been for Amazon credit - which is currently 'sold out', so I may need to pick another option for the $5 I have available to cash in.

I belong to that.  I did not have an option for Amazon gift codes.  I got the little cereal box and the set of 4 bowls.  I am quitting that though because after they changed the site I can no longer log in.  You have to accept all their cookies and agree to be tracked.  I even tried to temporarily do that to cash out but it still would not let me log in.  I finally got in to the account on another device and was able to cash out my points.  I have a little over 200 left in there.

Yeah.  I guess I figure that they are already tracking my cereal purchases and can see what other items I am buying during the same shopping trips... so what's a few more little cookies on top of that?   ;)

Noooo they want to put a tracker on my computer to see where all I go on the internet.  I know they see what all you purchase when you take a pic of the receipt.  There are several apps where you can send pics of the receipts.  Not sure what they can do with that info.  SO I participate in a couple of them.  Now if they want to send me cookies I am all for that.

Swagbucks is nothing like what I am talking about.  It is a ptc site that you can use to make a few bucks here and there.  What I am talking about you do not get actual money.  You get points off products and you can use those points to cash in for for something like a coffee mug with that company's logo.  Like the Kelloggs you can get a set of bowls with the different characters on the bowl.

Some companies, like JCPenney Stores, have a reward program.
