I do not shop at this company's store (too expensive) but I find it interesting that they have such a business model! Anyone else have an interesting retail or wholesale tidbit to share?
As IKEA is owned by a Dutch company which is, in turn, owned by a Dutch non-for-profit, they’re able to get away with paying very little tax. In fact, they only get taxed at 3.5%.
IKEA don’t simply rely on word-of-mouth of course, their marketing ideas have, at times, bordered on genius. One example is in France, where they put a whole house worth of furniture on a rock-climbing wall. Sounds crazy but it certainly got a buzz!

I've never been to Ikea The closest one is in Philadelphia which is about one hour away.
-
I used to get their catalogs and enjoyed glancing through them before tossing in the trash lol I have never purchased anything from them. There is a store two towns over from me but I have no interest in their products.

I love looking at IKEA products online. They are geniuses! I would absolutely be excited about going to an IKEA store in person, but the closest one is in Atlanta, which I would not want to go into the city just to visit a store. But if IKEA built a store anywhere around me, we'd probably soon be broke! :peace:

I have never shopped at IKEA. I have seen their website.
-
I've been to their website, but have never purchased.
-
i have never shopped there myself..heard a lot about it though...we dont have one in our town..have never went to their website
-
Just for grins, you should search your local craigslist.org for sale listing for the term "ikea". In Portland Oregon this morning I found 961 items listed. I would be interested how many listings show up in towns where they don't have an Ikea store.

I've never been there, but we have one here where I live.
-
I have never bought anything from iKEA
-
No I don’t have any but thank you for sharing I have never shopped at a IKEA Way too expensive for my taste
-
No, I did not know that, but I have never shopped at a IKEA store
-
I'm confused by all the "too expensive" comments. Their prices are on par with Wal-mart. I've been to the Ikea near me, only once. Most of their furniture is made of cheap particleboard. I would never buy their products.

I haven't been to Ikea in a few years. Funny thing is when I did I went to actually go eat more than shop.
-
I have never actually been to Ikea. I don't think there is one close to me.
-
I visited one, once, when I was in CA to visit my kids. We don't have one near us. I actually liked the store and wouldn't mind having one nearby.
-
i have never been to ikea or really know anything about its background
-
IKEA isn't expensive. They even have breakfast for $1 and it's pretty decent. I've bought a few things from them over the years and I still have them.
-
I heard of Ikea but have never shopped there but was told that they have great furniture there and the price is not so bas either.
-
Interesting climbing wall. Never shopped there.
-
I have never bought anything from them before and never shopped there.

I do not know how Ikea could operate as a non profit organization when clearly they are. I have never shopped with them and probably never will. All the big companies are going to do what ever they can to pay as little taxes as possible. Just like random individuals.
