Title: Christmas cards
Post by: singletonb on November 20, 2019, 09:59:13 pm
Is there anyone out there that still send out Christmas cards.  I used to do it every Christmas but with the cost of stamps getting so high, I have done it in quite a while.

Every year when I receive a Christmas card I tape it to the door.  I've noticed every year I receive less.  Last year I only had 2.  But I admit I always intend to send cards but I'm a huge procrastinator so I usually don't.  :santa:

I send a few but like someone else said, just immediate family.  Stamps are 55 cents so I don't send many.  I hand deliver some.

White House Christmas Tree

Here's the scoop:

This year's tree stands 22 feet tall and is 12 feet wide. It will be placed in the blue room to be decorated by the first lady.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House is gearing up for Christmas. Melania Trump is set to receive the official White House Christmas tree on Monday afternoon.
The Christmas tree is coming from Mahantongo Valley Farms in Pitman, Pennsylvania. Owner Larry Snyder won an annual contest held by the National Christmas Tree Association, earning the honor of gifting a tree from his farm to the White House.
The White House didn’t provide details about the tree in its announcement Tuesday.

But the tree will arrive at the front door of the White House by horse-drawn carriage and become the focal point of Christmas in the White House Blue Room.

I don't.  I've never really been good at that.  My parents did every year.  my mom is gone now but, my dad still sends them out.

I used to really enjoy sending Christmas cards.  It was time consuming, but such a lovely way to stay in touch with old friends.  Today, with the Internet, staying in touch is no longer a problem, and I don't feel the necessity of sending cards as much as I did in the past.  It's too bad.  I fear a lot of the old, simple, beautiful traditions will soon be obsolete.

Everyone seems to love getting something in the mail so I try to send out a letter or card to someone I have not heard from in a while but generally do not center it around any other holiday than someone's birthday. I send a card to my children every month (with a ten dollar bill in it) and wish them a happy obscure holiday of one sort or another. I try to impart some wisdom, share a site that is producing money, provide them an investment tip that I like. I think that I will begin sending my parents a card every two months (with pictures of the family) since they just moved into an assisted living facility. I think that my siblings talk to my parents sparingly and only when they need something. We have always been hit or miss on sending cards at Christmas.

Yeah, I used to send a ton of Christmas cards and receive a ton of Christmas cards. it was really nice. But I guess myself and everyone else I know just got where we email each other Christmas greetings. I'm pretty sure that not near as many Christmas cards get sent out each year in general. Kind of sad that it's no longer really a very popular tradition, but pretty much everything goes by the wayside sooner or later.  :peace:

Maybe I will make an effort to send out a few this year.  I always have good intention but then there is procrastination which is followed by forgetfulness which is followed by it is too late.

I have always helped my family to do a combined one. We only send them to immediate family and close friends, unless we receive one from someone else. We definitely used to send out a lot more than we do now.

Yes, I still send out a few to friends each year. The main reason I send them is because I don't get to see them too often and it is nice to stay in touch.

Thanks for that tip!  A few years ago I sent probably 100 and now am down to about 25.  I think the ecards might be great for some of those acquaintances that I'd like to contact, but really don't want the expense!  ;)

There was a time when I had a list of 30-40 people and I used to write a short, simple note on each one.  The list has been decreasing over the years.  Probably the last 8-9 years I have only mailed or hand delivered maybe 5-6!  I also receive so many cards from charities I donate a bit of money to that I often use them if they aren't too shabby!  I receive maybe 2-3 each year now when I used to get maybe 15-20!!

I still send out Christmas cards every year because I enjoy doing it. The cost of stamps is so high now, though, that I have cut my Christmas list in half to save a little money. I buy my cards from the Museum of Modern Art in NYC and they are usually quite heavy, so I can't put usual postage on them. I have to buy more.

No, I rarely send Christmas cards anymore. They are very expensive, and many of them end up collecting dust on someone's living room table (at least on my end of the world), LOL. So I prefer to purchase gift cards.

Is there anyone out there that still send out Christmas cards.  I used to do it every Christmas but with the cost of stamps getting so high, I have done it in quite a while.

I do for close friends and family. This year my family shrank by 4 so I'm only sending 10 cards, and they're going to close cousins and my 1 aunt that's left. I really don't feel like sending cards this year though...so I'm debating about only sending 1 to my aunt, 1 to my late uncle's widow as I do every year, and 1 to my 30-year client's wife since he died last year.  I hate getting older.    :(

I stopped sending out Christmas cards some years ago.  In the past I would send out Christmas, but never received one back to me.  It didn't get angry because that's not what they do.

I am only going to mail a couple.  Will hand deliver a couple and that is all I am doing.  I only do cards now for people I am pretty close to. Cards and mailing is expensive.  If they are just going to toss it why bother.

I still send out Christmas Cards, to family that aren't local & older family members... also to a couple friends that are now Christmas Card friends --> friends I only communicate with on Christmas.    Guess if I did Facebook I could just send out everyone a Christmas greeting on there... but since I don't, Christmas Cards have to do.

I have seen the much longer Christmas Card list dwindle down as the years go by.  The cost of postage and the rise and acceptance of social media seem to have disrupted that "tradition."  I now find myself sending only a handful, mostly to out-of-state family or friends.  I don't even have the hand delivery cards anymore.

Is this free?  Most of the ecard places you have to be a paid member.  I am a member of one.  You can send a handful of free ones but most you need to be a paid member to access to send.

Completely free!  Registration required but it's easy to make an account and save your email addresses for next time.  And it's has millions of eCards for all occasions, And you can design and submit them too!

I've used this site for a long time, never got spammed, get one email with an ad enclosed but I think you can opt out of that if you like.

I used to send cards to lots of people and personal letters as well. Letters were rarely responded to, unfortunately. Christmas cards seemed to come from those you sent to. I'm not exactly sure why I stopped unless it was because of the time spent, little to say in the way of a message, the price of the postage or a combination of all the above.  :dontknow:

I like getting cards if they have a little personal message in them or even a Christmas newsletter.  :present: Otherwise, they're not much to look forward to, IMO.
