Do you think they'll really do this? I said "LOL yeah right" when I first heard the idea, but it sounds like they might actually be considering it. Last night my local news said the amounts they are discussing are $1200 for singles $2400 for couples.

It would be helpful but by the time they decide and actually send anything most of the people who lost their jobs will be in a big financial hole.

God bless Andrew Yang who put this idea (outlandish as it sounded when he first proposed it) into people's minds. I hope they do figure out a way to help those in need. I wasn't one of those in serious need. But now that my workload is starting to peter out I may become one of them. One good thing is that I already work from home. And FC was a nice icing on the cake to help pay for unforeseen bills and extras.
I just cashed out yesterday and it made me happy to know at least I'd be getting something in April. If my jobs dry out completely, I'm doomed.

The auto and airline industries are getting nice fat bailouts! I think the American people need the money way more than those two economic giants. Will Uncle Sam bail us out? I'm not going to hold my breath.

I truly hope that we do receive the stimulus checks, sounds like it's going to happen. It would be a blessing for so many that are desperate for funds.

It sounds like $1000 for adults, $500 for kids, with incomes less than $75000 based on 2018 income....anything higher than that income means less of a check, and I think if you have less than a certain income you don't get a check either....they're talking about doing this in April and May, which would be a nice little reprieve that's for sure....
believe it or not, this is similar to what they did in 2008, it's just it took longer to implement and was a smaller amount...

They could give you a million dollars and you would still find something to cry about. The first pay out will be in April. This is almost the end of March. They done the same thing a few years ago but it was only $600 or so.

lol. They have said that would be cheater than the welfare. Every person gets $10.000. If you blow it all on bubble gum then you are out of luck. Like you said spend it wisely. But most people are stupid. The welfare bums get that monthly check and it is gone in 3 days. And none of the bills are paid. A school locally a kid comes to school in old dirty clothes. Worn out with holes in them. He tells his teacher how his daddy got his income tax check and bought a 60 inch tv. So the stimulus checks will be spent about the same. Then the same idiots will be crying I can't pay my rent. Well sell the big screen tv you got last week.

I think that would be a great idea! There are a lot of people who are out of work due to the virus, but I'm sure they'll still have the regular monthly bills that they have to pay. I'm thankful that my husband's paid on salary and his employer (large corporation) is doing everything possible to keep all of their employees since they'll need them when this is over. :peace: :heart:

So thankful that my husband and I both work for a food manufacture so our jobs are considered an necessity. I am working for home now but he has to go the plant everyday as his department is facilities. They are taking their temperature everyday as they enter the building and turning away anyone with a slight fever.

I think the stimulus will help a lot. Many people will use it to take care of bills and feed their families. This is not the ordinary thing that is happening to our country. It will be a nice bonus to people who are not losing their jobs or are having to put in overtime. But hopefully it will also be a good boost to the economy since it has taken such a hit and all the Mom and Pop businesses.

The stimulus checks for all Americans would be a great blessing to all. I do hope the congress will pass this and work together. All of us Americans deserve some help at this time.

I think the checks should be distributed in a hardest hit fashion with proof of lost income and/or additional expenses related to the virus at the center of disbursement decisions.We need to control expenditures as someone has to pay for this additional payout-ultimately our kids and generations to come. Just like the tax overhaul in which we received an extra seventy or so dollars per pay check-future generations will pay for that. It isn't like the government will use money slotted for un-necessary programs, cut political salaries, or use unused campaign funds to fund this emergency. Part of the package covers corporate bailouts. This also needs to be monitored. The last round of unsupervised corporate buyouts did not help the masses/employees but, in several cases, allowed the big corporations to initiate stock buy backs.

Surveys won't pay the bills. Unless you have money coming in from some where else you are going to be in trouble. Sadly there are a lot of people who are not getting to work and depending on where they work they will not get paid if things shut down and they do not have unemployment. And I am not sure how it works in this situation when you can't pay the mortgage. And our local electric company IS still shutting off power. My cousin got a notice last week if hers was not paid by x date her power WOULD be shut off.

No its not...still $1,200 most singles to $2,400 for most couples...some will only get $600
But with battle axe Pelosi trying to tack on stupid things like abortions/solar panels/emissions...and things that have nothing to do with whats going on who knows when/if we're gonna see it....I hope voters remember this....Shumer and Pelosi need to hit the unemployment lines their selves.

But me daughter works for the Public Schools and here in Virginia the governor ordered all schools closed for the rest of the Academic Year, my daughter is a part time working on the After School Program, she is also a full time student in College, and looks like she will not get her pay after March.
What worries me about these checks, is that sooner or later we will have to pay it back, most probably in next year's taxes.

You either read wrong or there are more than one article. Everything you see says something totally different. Never saw anything that said if you make under $23,000 you won't get anything. IF you do not file income taxes you won't get anything. Hilarious for all these idiots who say oh I made under this amount or I live off the government so "I" don't have to file. YOU HAD to file income taxes in 2018 to qualify.

It will be $1200 per person and $500 per child for persons earning under $75000 per year, ofcourse the IRS will check your tax returns. I am not sure if it will be for all americans, but rather the americans paying tax, say 175 million americans...not the entire 300 + millions of amercans.

You did not get the stimulus a few years ago? You never get a refund when you file your taxes? Most will get a lot more than $1200 esp if they are drawing unemployment. Idk why $1200 is not enough. They do not have to send anything.

You read it wrong. Or just do not understand. The $600 is going to be added to unemployment checks every week. And it is anyone under $75,000 was suppose to get $1200. Don't be surprised when the retail workers who are still working lay down their shovels and walk off the job. Min wage people gonna be drawing $825 a WEEK to sit on their butt at home. That is more than a lot made in a month. WHY would people want to work. People will also be surprised when they file taxes next year and realize they have to pay income taxes on this. It is not free money.

Yes, I really think that most of us are going to get a $1200 stimulus check. I am retired anyway so I didn't have income coming in from a job that I then lost, or anything, but I sure could use an extra $1200 anyways.

It's tax time, they think they will make up the loss and break even from 2019 taxes, till next year when the taxes paid will reflect this shutdown!!

...and $500 for every kid but it's graduated amount for anyone who earns over $75K to 100K. Earning $100K or higher gets nothing. Yes, supposedly the first checks will be going out "the week of April 6." IRS will be in charge of those who file taxes. Social Security supposedly in charge of those on SS. How can they make sure people don't get more than one check? Some people on SS have to file taxes to the IRS every year because they make over and above the cutoff amount. I hope there will be a check and balance style match so those on SS who file taxes don't get a check twice.

I read that people who got their 2018 or 2019 tax refunds via direct deposit will get their stimulus money faster, because the IRS already has their bank info on file. Paper checks are going to have to wait a lot longer apparently.

Who's going to vote on Monday? Congress went home as soon as they passed the $2.2 Trillion bill. It would have been nice if Pelosi didn't throw in those items for the Kennedy Center, Smithsonian, and other non-related activities for this virus. Mostly, it's to protect employee jobs with these non-related $$ but the Kennedy Center already got rid of their employees so they should be giving the money back. I think they will be off until Easter.

I believe they are going to send out stimulus checks, but you have to have met some criteria. I think having a tax return is one.
It's a nice idea and I like it, but I'm not sure how much good it will do in the long run. We'll see. :dontknow:

No, it's not. It's an additional credit. You would still get $2500 back. If you do not get the check now, you could get $4900 on the 2020 return.

There are 3 adults in our household, and we each got our stimulus check, all by direct deposit. My parents got theirs in their bank account that they get tax refunds in. I have not received a federal tax refund before, but I have received a state one, so I guess the federal government somehow got my bank account information from the state of California. Our income has not dipped drastically during this time, but it is a relief, considering that our rent is $3000/month in Southern California. I work from home exclusively as well as my mom, and my dad is an essential worker working in corporate food service at a pharmaceutical company.
