Title: Mothers and Daughters
Post by: JaniceSW on April 04, 2020, 10:56:57 am
Awhile back and just now on TV heard that the bond between mothers and daughters is the strongest intergenerational bond that there is.  It went on to say that they have similar emotions because they have similar transmission patterns in the brain.
I know!  This idea is rather esoteric and deep, but I was wondering as part of a mother/daughter relationship or even as a guy looking into such a relationship, do you think this is the strongest bond?  Why?  What have you seen which supports this?  Or do you disagree and why?

I don't know the science of it, but do believe mothers/daughter relationships are very strong.  My daughter lives too far away to see often - even for a couple years - and if I had a wish, I would definitely wish her closer.

Yeah, I don't think that's true for all mothers and daughters. I was close to my mom, but I was much, much closer to my dad, probably because we were so alike. As a matter of fact, in many cases it seems like the father-daughter relationship is stronger. But I'm not a relationship scientist, so I'm just going from anecdotal evidence, LOL!  :peace:

I think it is really just depends on the people. I think it is different for everyone.

I think it depends on the relationship/bond that was established when a daughter  was/is younger. it is hard to establish close bonds in my opinion once the daughter becomes an adult; if their was emotional distance during her childhood.

So true.  Unfortunately not all daughters and mothers have a close, loving relationship.

I agree. I'm a woman who definitely has a closer connection to her father.

Thankfully I had a close relationship with both my parents and my daughter has the same relationship with me and my husband.  There are things that she enjoys doing with both of us

I think it depends on the family, my mother and me have a close relationship NOW, but it wasn't always that way, my mom always been there for me, but she had a way of doing things for the old ages that drove us apart for a while.  I have 2 adult daughters and my bond with them is string, more with my youngest than my oldest, but they are both in an strong bond with me and with each other.  But I have to say that my daughters bond with their dad is really strong, as much as with me.  They are his little girls and they love him to pieces.

Now the bond between grandparents and grand babies is even stronger than with kids.  I see it everyday on my house.

I think the strongest bond is one you can choose; sometimes family members do you wrong and we only keep ourselves chained to them for family sake, which can be unhealthy.

I do have to say that my daughter is my best friend.  We have been very close since the day she was born.  Granted, there were troubling times during the teen through college years.  Our bond has strengthened even more since she has became a mother.  She now knows where the strength and love came from through all those years.
