Title: Masks a must
Post by: Nancy5 on April 15, 2020, 07:05:10 pm
The governor of Pennsylvania just proclaimed all employees of any type of store must wear a mask.  All customers entering the store must have a mask on, if not you will be denied entrance.

Wow, are the cases high in Pennsylvania?

Here in California masks are suggested, but it is a city by city call on whether it is mandatory or not... it seems to be working out for us.

Personally I think that is a good idea - masks, everyone wear masks & lets open up America already.
The fact that our homeless here in Cali, 58,000 on the streets nightly in Los Angeles alone, aren't engaging in social distancing, aren't wearing masks, aren't continually washing their hands & STILL aren't spreading Covid-19 is quite telling.

Are they going to supply the masks? I think ppl are fixing to revolt! I saw where some places are refusing to sell items they deem non-essential. So basically only selling food and meds. Smh I am starting to think we are not going to come out of this.

My hubby has been going to the store when necessary. When I told him this, he said he won't be going to the store anymore. It's bad enough that the one store will only allow a certain number in the store at one time and he's not going to stand in line outside for permission to get into the store. Wearing masks should be voluntary. Even if you're wearing one, you can still get the virus. The governor is kinda behind in his mandates since the start.

My husband's father told him back in the '70s that if he thought the great depression was bad, just wait. There would be another one that would make the '20s depression look like a party. It would be so bad a wheelbarrow of cash wouldn't buy a loaf of bread. I'm hoping this isn't it or else there will be a lot of starving people in this country unless they learn how tos survive through gardening and food preservation.

I don't believe that.  People predict crap all the time.  Some comes true and some doesn't.  Any person with any sense at all can see we are headed for a recession and possibly a depression. It is what the demoncrats want. Anything to try to keep Trump from being elected again.  You think it is bad now?  Wait until they are back in control!  There is no way things can keep going like the are.  The economy is already crashing.  People are buying everything in site and eventually they won't need anything else for a while.  Except some are buying huge amounts and then trying to resell at inflated prices.  There is an easy fix.  Just do not buy from them.  Eventually somebody will bust their head and take it and I guess it will be worth it then huh.

Gardening and canning are useless unless you have seeds now and have a place to grow a garden.  The majority of people do not.  Then if things are that bad you will need a guard to stand by at night and all day to watch the veggies or somebody will come and take it.  I don't know how bad things are going to get and it scares me to think about it.  I do know you can't shut the world down and just expect things to keep working.  There are already food plants shutting down every where and they keep saying how there WILL be food shortages.  Then in the same breath say oh but don't panic.  You can not stand on a train track and say  THERE IS A TRAIN and in the same breath say oh but take your time moving off the track.

Something else that would make a "depression" worse today is there are too many pansy snowflakes in the world today.  Too use to comfort and luxury and having things handed to them. Not use to not having it all at their fingertips. Back in the 30s most people didn't have that much to begin with.  MOST people did not know there was a depression.  They lived on their farms and lived off their farms. They did not go to the store and buy milk and bread. Did not have luxuries. They had a house and they worked the farm, kids played outside, when it got dark you went to bed.

Hiya! :) :D

Wow that seems a bit drastic to me. Wearing a mask or not seems like a personal choice. Nonetheless we all do need to be careful and stay safe. :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:

This policy makes a lot of sense. If only the healthcare organizations (CDC, WHO) had sussed out that everyone should wear a mask (instead of saying that masks wouldn't help at all outside of a healthcare setting), then we might not be quite as bad off as we are. Of course, hindsight is 20/20 and they only gave the information they really knew about this virus.  :peace:

It should be recommended but not required...costs money to buy them.....not easy to get....same with gloves which don't really do anything beneficial, just spread germs around...

In CA my husband must wear a mask at work as well. They issue them at security before they enter their work building. He is in the essential work category.

And I can't breathe properly in this mask.. but I understand the need to wear it at work during an epidemic. one day we will be able to return to normal life.

I totally agree that we should be wearing them.  If it can help a little it is worth it and they are easy to make.  Our governor has not mandated but has strongly suggested it.

How does wearing gloves just spread germs around? It protects the person who is wearing them. If I go out in public I am worried about ME and keeping ME safe. Not everyone else.  If you touch something that has the virus germs on it and then touch something else I guess it could spread that way but that would happen no matter what.  I guess if you have gloves on you are more likely to me aware of touching your nose or mouth.

Then stay home.  If you are wearing a mask then you should be safe.  ::)  I don't care what anybody else does.  Walmart, or at least ours, as of today you have to wear a mask if you are working.  I guess it did not specify how they wear it because some had them on top of their head, some around their neck, and some wearing sort of the right way.

I am more concerned with the fact that I went to Walmart and over half the people there had a mask on and I did not find that odd.  ???  Be kind of hard for me to transmit it to some one else when I don't have it.  People need to turn the media off.

It must be where you live.  A friend was stopped from entering the store yesterday morning and told he had to have on a mask. But that is not mandated in our area.  I talked to a manager and she said it is recommended but not mandated. We were up there this morning and some people had one on and some people did not.

I was told that it is probably coming that eventually it will come to having to wear on to come in the store.  I don't get why though because 99% of the confirmed cases in our county are recovered.  The ones that are not are in the hospital so they are not out.  If you are that scared you do not need to be at Walmart.

I've been making masks from scraps of material and have about used them all up.  While watching TV last night, two of the actors had on really different dresses, one a solid color, the other a flowered print.  I found myself looking at the materials rather than the dresses, and wondering what masks would look like made out of the fabric!  That felt so weird.

At this point in time I think everyone should wear a mask. They say it is to protect others from you. There are so many that are A symtomatic that are infecting others and not even knowing it.

I tried to make a mask but have not found a good pattern. Somebody gave me one and I would like to make a couple like that one but cannot figure out how to do it by looking at it. I am not too concerned with wearing a mask but even though things are getting way way better as far as the virus the stupid is getting way worse. I heard this morning (from a manager that is a friend that works there) that our Walmart, starting today, has implemented the one way travel in the aisles. I do not see how that even is suppose to matter because you still will walk by other people. I also don't see it actually happening. People will walk which ever way they want to in any aisle.

Illinois is doing the same thing starting May 1st but many suburbs have already started it mine included.  It doesn't bother me and can only pray that it  helps a little. Not hard to make your own either

Thanks. I will look at it.  I do not have any material.  I have some fleece which is too hot.  And I have some scraps but not sure if they will be big enough. I saw something last night that has a printable pattern. If this is the "new norm" and come fall and winter the stores are going to be freaking out and requiring people to wear a mask to enter the stores I may need some.

I have a "make shift" one from the bandana and hair bands. It works okay. I have one that somebody gave me and I like it but can't figure out exactly how they made it. I kind of know but if I make one it would be good if I knew the measurements she used. The person who gave it to me is not the one who made it.  I may look in to it more later today.

Everyone needs to wear a mask when going out  in public.  They are easy to make your own or buy from those that are making them for us.  Hopefully down the road we won't have to wear them but for now,,,  they are the new piece of our wardrobe. I say if you want to wear a mask then wear a mask. YOU are protected. ::)  But don't try to control what everyone else does.  I won't be wearing one.  I did once right after this first started. But have not since. The only way I would wear one if if our Walmart makes it mandatory to enter the building.

It is kind of like the flu shot.  The people who run get the flu shot scream and cry at the people who do not take the shot saying "you gonna make me sick".  NO, you got your precious shot so you are protected. ::)  ::)
A while back I worked a temporary position in the fall and they tried to force everyone to get the flu shot.  I refused.  Everybody got mad.  Well, pretty much everyone who took the flu shot also got the flu.  "I" did not take the shot and "I" did not get the flu.

I don't think so. You may have some stores that require a mask to enter but they will lose sales. I don't think it will come to everyone has to wear a mask if they go out of their house. I have heard people saying they think it will or even people screaming it needs to be made mandatory. I just cannot see it every happening.
