Described as a gentle giant that was starting over after five years in prison for armed robbery he lost his life for allegedly writing a counterfeit check. He leaves behind a six year old daughter. The video was gruesome. Surveillance videos contradict the officer's statement that Floyd was resisting arrest. The officer filmed kneeling on the neck of the victim has been the subject of ten conduct complaints and three police shootings in his nineteen years as an officer. Colin Kaepernic and Ice Cube are calling for revolts. Target and AutoZone closed the local stores after being looted and/or burned. The University of Minnesota won't hire Minneapolis Police officers as security at football games. All this in the wake of the Ahmaud Arbery shooting.

It's horrible to watch that video. I hope he gets charged for murder. He didn't have to kill him like that. No words so horrifying to watch.

I think the police who killed him are not being charged with anything. Hopefully that will change. Im confused by the officer who had his knee on him. Did he learn that was ok to do. Do they learn that in cop school. Horrible

Calling for revolts against innocent people who had nothing to do with this is wrong. And the people participating in this behavior are no better than the cop. I am thankful nothing like this has ever happened where I live. I can't imagine the people who are totally innocent and living in the area just trying to live their lives and having to be afraid to go outside.

Why do you think that? They all have been fired. And it has been on the news that charges ARE pending. They have to be careful how they bring the charges. Has nothing to do with them being cops. It is like a few years ago a local guy was charged with 1st degree murder as well as 2nd degree murder, and it was for killing ONE person. That did not make sense. It was explained to me that this way - they want a 1st degree murder charge but did not think they could make that stick. If it does not he walks free. They can't come back and charge him with a different crime because they did not like the outcome of the first trial. So this way one of the charges stick.
Saying "do they learn that in cop school" is disrespectful and makes you just as bad as the ones looting and rioting and even the cop who killed him. Just one more thing to make people fight and further divide the people. No he did not have to do what he done. And I honestly do not think he meant to kill him which is why 1st degree murder won't be a charge. The most will be man slaughter. It was not intentional. He did not set out to KILL him. At the same time there had multiple complaints about him and nothing was ever done. And he needs to go to jail. Anybody else who done the same thing would.

I can't imagine any possible defense for that cop's actions. And how could you not stop when there were multiple people not only watching, but filming? I don't think he meant to kill the guy but even if he hadn't died that amount of force was totally unreasonable. I hope every cop that saw what was happening goes to jail.

If he did, that is one of the purposes of the protests - as Mizzkizz7 said, people are tired of seeing black men get killed. And, out of curiosity, where do you see the black cops constantly killing white men since you claim it happens a lot? By no means is anyone sticking up for senseless death that could be avoided.

No I actually don't. I think he was just being a bully and exerting force. He would not have purposely murdered him, with multiple people filming, right there in the middle of a huge crowd. I did not say he did not need to be punished. I said I do not think his intentions were murder. Sources have said there have been several other incidents where he had complaints for using excessive force. I know a local cop who is a lot like this guy. When he puts the uniform on he is a god and you will bow to him. I think things just went too far but he did not set out to kill him. Thus why he is not charged with 1st degree murder.

LOL So we can see you are blinded by the media. Google it. There was a BLACK COP shot an unarmed WHITE MAN 2 counties over from me just a few years ago. No media coverage. Nothing was said. You can find the stats if you want to look for them. White men get shot by cops too. But you see what you want to. If you think the violence that is erupting all over the country is okay then you are part of the problem. Don't be crying when your family gets caught in the cross fire. You are wanting to fight with me and you do not even know me. Actually, no where EVER in any of my comments have I EVER mentioned what color my skin is. If you bother to look there are black men and women all over twitter saying how the burning things down, rioting, and looting are wrong. It needs to stop. If you look at the numbers there are more white men/women shot by cops that black. But black is what gets the attention. It is what gets the people riled up and fighting. This has got to stop. Our country is gone. It isn't coming back. What we knew just a few months ago we will never know again. Hate is what is going to take our country down. People are so blind by hate they do not even listen to what the other person says before they start attacking, screaming, and fighting with them. Oh that and just plain hate because of the color of their skin. And THAT goes in every direction as well. ::)

LOL! So you come up with one single case to compare to many cases of cops killing unarmed black people. And a something that allegedly few years ago at that. You can find the lists of the other victims, too. No one is saying white men are not getting shot by cops.
I haven't yet mentioned the violence in the country so don't jump the gun. And don't cry when your family gets caught up in the crossfire. If you have a problem with the lack of white victims being depicted and fought for, DO something about it. SAY something about. It is not a single cases. There are THOUSANDS of cases. I gave an example of a SINGLE CASE that I personally know about. If you say I can't use this example from a few years ago then you can't use the "oh white cops shoot black people" from years ago. ::)

The main cop has been arrested and charged with 3rd degree murder and 2nd degree manslaughter. The other three cops involved are being investigated.
The Twin Cities were already hurting from the pandemic and unemployment. Now the rioters have burned, vandalized and/or looted over 180 businesses in Minneapolis and St Paul, including the 3rd Precinct police station. The National Guard has been called in, which is both relieving and terrifying. Mpls/St Paul have an 8pm curfew tonight and tomorrow. I live close enough to see the smoke from the fires and hear the sirens. Nothing has happened near me yet, except a looted liquor store, but this isn't over yet. I got maybe 2 hours of broken sleep last night. I felt some relief when Chauvin was arrested, but I'm sure the rioting will continue through the weekend despite the curfew. We'll see what happens tonight. I may be leaving town tomorrow. :sad1:

I think the police who killed him are not being charged with anything. Hopefully that will change. Im confused by the officer who had his knee on him. Did he learn that was ok to do. Do they learn that in cop school. Horrible
Why do you think that? They all have been fired. And it has been on the news that charges ARE pending. They have to be careful how they bring the charges. Has nothing to do with them being cops. It is like a few years ago a local guy was charged with 1st degree murder as well as 2nd degree murder, and it was for killing ONE person. That did not make sense. It was explained to me that this way - they want a 1st degree murder charge but did not think they could make that stick. If it does not he walks free. They can't come back and charge him with a different crime because they did not like the outcome of the first trial. So this way one of the charges stick.
Saying "do they learn that in cop school" is disrespectful and makes you just as bad as the ones looting and rioting and even the cop who killed him. Just one more thing to make people fight and further divide the people. No he did not have to do what he done. And I honestly do not think he meant to kill him which is why 1st degree murder won't be a charge. The most will be man slaughter. It was not intentional. He did not set out to KILL him. At the same time there had multiple complaints about him and nothing was ever done. And he needs to go to jail. Anybody else who done the same thing would.

No I actually don't. I think he was just being a bully and exerting force. He would not have purposely murdered him, with multiple people filming, right there in the middle of a huge crowd. I did not say he did not need to be punished. I said I do not think his intentions were murder. Sources have said there have been several other incidents where he had complaints for using excessive force. I know a local cop who is a lot like this guy. When he puts the uniform on he is a god and you will bow to him. I think things just went too far but he did not set out to kill him. Thus why he is not charged with 1st degree murder.
Unfortunately, we do not know his intentions. Maybe that is a possibility but going that far was way too much. Police are trained and I feel like anyone who is applying that kind of force does so with a level of intent. I think the officer deserves a 2nd degree murder charge, but he has now been charged with 3rd degree murder.

I actually know someone local who is or was like that. I do not know that he was ever violent with anyone. I have heard stories about how people got smacked around. You won't believe it because it was a WHITE man who got beat up. But when he put his uniform on he was like a god (in his own mind) and you DID respect him. Well respect is earned not just given.

This is not about a single case. Quit being stupid. There are more white people killed by police than blacks. That can be proven with stats that can easily be found. It is not just me that can confirm it. Everyone around here knows about it. ::)

It is like the WHITE WOMAN who called 911 and as she stood there talking to the cop her idiot friend walks up behind the police car and smacks the back of the car. The cop in the passenger side shoots and kills the woman standing there talking to them. The one who called for help. He also shot across in front of his partner's face. He said oh well I was scared. So he walks away free. No riots, no big deal made. Why? It was just a white girl. Nobody cared.

I could not imagine living right where this is happening. People are crazy. This violence is not doing anything but making them look bad. The man who died would not want this. There were protests about an hour from where I live but no where close to me. You say you thought about leaving town for a couple days... I actually was thinking about that and what I would do if I lived there. If this were happening right here where I live I don't think I would leave my home. I would stay and if it came down to it fight for what is mine and what is right. It is scary that the police and fire department are not even responding to anything any more. You all are on your own.

There seem to be a lot of details missing. I do not understand how you go from he was approached for trying to pass fake money to being on the ground and choked to death. Especially if he cooperated the entire time. I have seen mention on twitter that the two previously knew each other. First from previous arrests (he supposedly had just got out of jail for something else) and someone said the two had worked security together up until January. I do not know that the working together is true.
People are screaming the cop should have been charged with 1st degree murder. In order for it to be 1st degree murder he would have had to have pre-planned it and clearly he did not. Nor do I know he was trying to kill him. I don't think he was. Rough him up yes. But I really do not think he meant to kill him. I don't know what will come from this but it is going to be hard to get a fair trial because everybody has already heard about it and most have already formed an opinion one way or the other. I figure he will enter some kind of plea agreement. But no matter what people won't be happy. :confused1:
It's like imaginarygirl said this is far from over and the riots will continue. I am seeing things in this country like I never thought I would. And people are so full of hate - it does not matter where you live you aren't really safe. Between political fights and blame, race, and whether you have on a mask or not it is best to stay at home if you can. People have lost their minds. And most do not care about anything but fighting. They really do not care about the cause they supposedly are supporting.
Even worse the businesses they are destroying, people's homes, people's lives - these people had nothing to do with this. The fire department cannot get to the fires in time to salvage anything. The number of bystanders that are not actually participating in the destruction are impeding the efforts to contain this madness.

While I do not condone violence under any circumstances, it is not difficult to understand the frustrations of African Americans (myself included) over having to witness time-and-time again some select corrupt police officers using their badge as an excuse to beat and (in some instances) kill African Americans. I honestly hope that ALL of the police officers (not just the moron who put his knee on Floyd's neck) get charged and face justice to the fullest extent.

The city leaders announced today that 80% of the rioters are not local citizens. Everyone they have arrested so far has been from out of state.
Well, now they're saying this is not accurate and the majority of arrests are from Minnesota. Who knows what to believe anymore? ???

It was a devastating video to see. I kept wondering what crime he had committed and I saw that he used a counterfeit bill to buy cigarettes. The use of force was excessive and these particular cops had previously used undue force and should have been severely disciplined. And in this case, the charge should at least be manslaughter because he kept his knee on Mr. Lloyd's neck (not appropriate at all) and did not remove it until his body was limp and lifeless and was lifted onto a stretcher. It's a shame that these things happen and that all police are all lumped into the same basket of deplorable people that should be dishonored and not respected.
I also hate that the disagreement causes dissension within our ranks; our Fusion Cash group. I like intelligent discourse and even disagreement with argument, but I don't like people attacking each other's opinions. I wish we would agree to disagree and promote our arguments with intelligent back and forth discussion. None of these racial incidents are easy to dissect and understand. Perhaps we should think about praying for the situation. :angel11: A lot of people were hurt and will be affected for a very long time.

I wish we would agree to disagree and promote our arguments with intelligent back and forth discussion. None of these racial incidents are easy to dissect and understand. There was more to it. HE did use a counterfeit $20 and it sounds like he knew it was fake. He was confronted outside and asked to give the cigarettes back and he laughed at them and refused. So the girl called the law. He was also drunk. So put it all together and it makes for an even worse situation. In the beginning he did fight and refuse to cooperate with the police. Again another coal on the fire.
I agree with you about getting along but that does not happen. It is what it is. I will say this, while the country seems to be falling apart it seems like the small town I live in is coming together. Blacks and whites (and it is so sad that skin color has to be mentioned) being nice to each other and showing that we are not a part of the ignorance that plagues the country.
And anyone who thinks the riots are a good thing are part of the problem. "I" did not do this, nor did I have anything to do with it. SO burning down MY home makes it a personal attack against me. Have you not even seen the videos of black people being interviewed crying because their neighborhood was burned down or their business. There is an older woman and her talking is heart breaking. They burned down all the businesses around her. She is old and walks. She said she has no where to shop now. She watched out her apartment complex and was scared because she thought they would set where she lived on fire. But they turned and went the other way.

Wrong is wrong - regardless of what color your skin is. Minnesota cops were wrong and should be punished. Those people looting and vandalizing establishments of other innocents are wrong and should be punished.

The cop has been arrested and has been charged. For them it is not enough. Oh he needs to be charged with 1st degree murder. Are people that stupid? Obviously. They cannot make a 1st degree murder charge stick. He did not go out and seek this man and plan to kill him. They charge him with what it is. Whether you like it or not manslaughter is about all they are going to be able to get him for. And if it actually goes to trial it will be hard to get a jury because either people have already formed an opinion or people would fear for their life as far as being on the jury. Remember the witness in the case where that female cop went to jail for killing a man in his own apartment? He ended up dead a couple weeks later.
Honestly I don't think it will ever go to trial. He will either make a plea deal or he will kill himself. I could see that happening. Unless they have some hard core evidence that nobody knows about. Either way the violence is not going to stop. The country we knew is gone.

I'm sure there were plenty of injuries, but thankfully, no one was killed. By 1am, it had pretty much fizzled out. There were some small fires, but nothing like the previous nights. I'm not sure what will happen tonight, but hopefully the worst of this is over. So many of the local businesses that were destroyed were minority-owned, and now their hardships are that much worse. :(

Not over. They just move to different areas. They should have done this a few nights ago. Once they realize there is a force fighting back they won't be as vocal. I have not seen much news but did see where there were somewhat violent protests in a town about 30 minutes from me. They called in highway patrol and police from the next county over. These people do not care about the man who died. All the violence is just causing more problems and for innocent people. A lot of people were outraged and a lot of people care what happened. But rioters and protesters make people care less. Totally takes away from your cause. :(

It was a devastating video to see. I kept wondering what crime he had committed and I saw that he used a counterfeit bill to buy cigarettes. The use of force was excessive and these particular cops had previously used undue force and should have been severely disciplined. And in this case, the charge should at least be manslaughter because he kept his knee on Mr. Lloyd's neck (not appropriate at all) and did not remove it until his body was limp and lifeless and was lifted onto a stretcher. It's a shame that these things happen and that all police are all lumped into the same basket of deplorable people that should be dishonored and not respected.
I also hate that the disagreement causes dissension within our ranks; our Fusion Cash group. I like intelligent discourse and even disagreement with argument, but I don't like people attacking each other's opinions. I wish we would agree to disagree and promote our arguments with intelligent back and forth discussion. None of these racial incidents are easy to dissect and understand. Generally, I suspend my opinion on these police brutality cases on the African American community. However, for some reason, the George Floyd case was particularly emotional and difficult for me not to provide my $0.02. While I do not condone violence under any circumstances, it is not difficult to understand the frustrations of African Americans (myself included) over having to witness time-and-time again some select corrupt police officers using their badge as an excuse to beat and (in some instances) kill African Americans. I honestly hope that ALL of the police officers (not just the moron who put his knee on Floyd's neck) get charged and face justice to the fullest extent.

Going back and looking at the replies YOU started this. YOU replied to me first. SO using your own words don't get all butthurt when I reply back and defend myself. You want to act like you are all innocent. It seems you did not make the "cop school" comment but that is the comment that got this started. Going back and looking at the replies YOU started this. YOU replied to me first. SO using your own words don't get all butthurt when I reply back and defend myself. You want to act like you are all innocent. It seems you did not make the "cop school" comment but that is the comment that got this started. I replied to that and you jumped in all mad because I said "I" did not think he meant to kill the man. YOU could not handle that comment. YOU could not let me have MY opinion. I said repeatedly that he should be charged (which he has) and that he should go to jail. But no, I do not think his intentions were to murder him. You can't handle that. You do not know his intention was to kill him any more than I know his intention was not to. If he had wanted to kill him he would have shot him when he first started to struggle. I think he was just trying to exert force and be rough with him. Push things as far as he could. Like it seems he has in the past.
As for what charges he received smarting off to me about that is pointless as "I" am not the one who decided what the charges would be. I have no control over that. It was a devastating video to see. I kept wondering what crime he had committed and I saw that he used a counterfeit bill to buy cigarettes. The use of force was excessive and these particular cops had previously used undue force and should have been severely disciplined. And in this case, the charge should at least be manslaughter because he kept his knee on Mr. Lloyd's neck (not appropriate at all) and did not remove it until his body was limp and lifeless and was lifted onto a stretcher. It's a shame that these things happen and that all police are all lumped into the same basket of deplorable people that should be dishonored and not respected.
I also hate that the disagreement causes dissension within our ranks; our Fusion Cash group. I like intelligent discourse and even disagreement with argument, but I don't like people attacking each other's opinions. I wish we would agree to disagree and promote our arguments with intelligent back and forth discussion. None of these racial incidents are easy to dissect and understand. Perhaps we should think about praying for the situation. :angel11: A lot of people were hurt and will be affected for a very long time.

It is 2020 and yet bigotry and hatred for African Americans continues to happen. I can't watch the TV anymore because the pictures show the aura of the murderers. My soul hurts because these men did nothing to have this happen to them simply because of the color of their skin. These cowards destroyed families and their love ones. To watch as these men lay dying at the hand of cowards, show that they believed that nothing would happen to them. The insanity has to stop NOW!!!

It was a devastating video to see. I kept wondering what crime he had committed and I saw that he used a counterfeit bill to buy cigarettes. The use of force was excessive and these particular cops had previously used undue force and should have been severely disciplined. And in this case, the charge should at least be manslaughter because he kept his knee on Mr. Lloyd's neck (not appropriate at all) and did not remove it until his body was limp and lifeless and was lifted onto a stretcher. It's a shame that these things happen and that all police are all lumped into the same basket of deplorable people that should be dishonored and not respected.
I also hate that the disagreement causes dissension within our ranks; our Fusion Cash group. I like intelligent discourse and even disagreement with argument, but I don't like people attacking each other's opinions. I wish we would agree to disagree and promote our arguments with intelligent back and forth discussion. None of these racial incidents are easy to dissect and understand. Perhaps we should think about praying for the situation. :angel11: A lot of people were hurt and will be affected for a very long time.

So do you see anything wrong with the group of black men that kicked and stomped a white man to death in the street for trying to defend his store that they were trying to loot and burn? This is really sad. No one deserves to be murdered like this with a knee on your neck for over 8 minutes for any type of crime. Let it go through the justice system and let them mete out the punishment and I don't think it would be death by pressure on your neck.

The thing with this - a lot of people are commenting online on news stories saying it would have been better to leave it like it was because they had a better chance of getting a guilty verdict. Lot of people are thinking they won't be able to get a guilty on 2nd degree. And if he is found not guilty he walks away. Free and clear. They can't come back and charge him again.

I don't really think it matters how the trial turns out I think the things going on will continue. And the trial will likely not be for several months. Most times it is at least a year or so with any one else.

I read somewhere that George Floyd had passed a phony 20 dollar bill, not that he wrote a counterfeit check. But whatever it is he did, it was a minor incident over 20 dollars that caused him to lose his life. Just awful. He had already done his time for prior arrests.

He used a counterfeit $20 to buy cigarettes. He was confronted and asked to give the cigarettes back. He refused. So the clerk called the police. One thing that does not make sense is supposedly the clerk said the ink was still running on the fake money. If that is true why did she not refuse it to start with? Why did she take it and wait til he was outside and then go and ask for the cigarettes back? I have worked retail and we had to check money when it was handed to us. Not after they went outside. And we were also told not to ever go outside after someone.

The other "White" police officer, Thomas Lane, was a rookie cop that was on something like his 4th shift as a full fledged cop.

Not everything is because of Racism... sometimes it's just bad cops & really bad police standards/regulations within the inner working of the police department itself. That's not true. One of them is Hmong, one is white, and I'm not sure about the third - he has an Asian last name, but he looks mixed race to me. Anyway, are you saying only white people can be racist against blacks? I'm not saying any of them are (or not), but racism goes in all directions.
It IS true. OR the article on yahoo and msn is lying. I am not saying anything. Dang people twist everything. I have said multiple times racism goes in every direction and been attacked multiple times for that statement. Are you saying only blacks get discriminated against? It goes in every direction. But if you listen to the protestors that is what they seem to be saying. They are just as racist when they attack a random white person just because they are white. And that has happened a lot over the past few days. :(
And FYI I did not get my info from looking at the skin of the 3 men. I actually READ the article where it told what the races were. NONE of the 3 are listed as being white. Only the one that was arrested first.
No, one of them is very clearly white. You can easily find their mugshots online. When did I say only blacks are discriminated against?
The other "White" police officer, Thomas Lane, was a rookie cop that was on something like his 4th shift as a full fledged cop.

Not everything is because of Racism... sometimes it's just bad cops & really bad police standards/regulations within the inner working of the police department itself. I'm not for defunding the police, but I am definitely for restructuring & periodic mental health assessments - hopefully that is included.
If Lane told Chauvin to stop twice i would think that would go a long way.Even tho now im sure Lane wished he belted him off.

I feel for George Floyd as well, he shouldn't have had to die the way he did. BUT, lets not forget that he held a gun to a pregnant woman's stomach so that he and his thugs could rob her house. I wouldn't put him up on a pedestal either.

My daughter told me one of the officer's wives filed for divorce the same day he was charged.
I think the police who killed him are not being charged with anything. Hopefully that will change. Im confused by the officer who had his knee on him. Did he learn that was ok to do. Do they learn that in cop school. Horrible
