Title: Life Insurance
Post by: santa7 on January 31, 2023, 02:36:22 pm
What is the best Life insurance to get?  At 72, I want to get Life Insurance again.  What is the best and cheapest because I don't own anything of value anymore, not even a car.  Don't want my daughters to get stuck with a big financial bill once I'm gone.  Just want a simple cremation.

I have private insurance, but I understand that AARP has good policies and they have a reasonable rate.  Mine carried over from my job when I retired so I have a good rate with them.

Yes.  I've noticed that too when looking at insurance policies.  You better check that for sure Oldbuddy because you may end up living to be 100.  My late uncle passed at 101 a couple years ago.

I would suggest AARP as well. I hear they have good policies for people who are 55 or older.

That's what they want you to think, so they can exploit a few more seniors and take a cut of whatever you buy.

Well, I got AARP membership again so I'm still looking around.  I gues  whole life is the best to get so at least it pays for your burial cost.

If it's burial costs you are worried about, why not just make your complete arrangements right now and pay for them, so there are no decisions to make when you go, just execution of your plan?

I disagree with the AARP concept for an insurance alternative. I stop believing in them. They have ties I don't agree with. I am a fan of AMAC now.  However, I have Minnesota Life through my former employer for life insurance.

As for burial plans, we went ahead and paid for most of the burial stuff, but stopped short at funeral arrangements.

AARP is a Con Game (scam) where they charge you a membership fee to recommend products to you that they gat commission on, so you are paying double. You can find better deals yourself and save money.

Is that your idea of a solution, crawl into a basket with two snakes and hope they bite each other instead of you?

I didn't see the point of life insurance before, but because of some events that have happened to me recently, I now understand how important it is. I'll probably look into it soon, too.

What about getting in touch with Select Quote or another advisor like that? Of course, they make their money through "commissions" when someone buys a policy they recommend but at least they search for a good(?) plan. I've gotten mailers for Mutual of Omaha but they aren't that cheap. I see a lot of TV ads for Colonial Penn at $9.95 but I checked into it years ago for mom and it cost $9.95 for $1000 only. The more you want or needed in life insurance, multiply $9.95 for each $1000. Term insurance might work but at age 72, no life insurance will be cheap. Every one I've checked into buying were over $100 a month.  I got snookered by AIG years ago when they took over American General. Not nice people anymore, more greedy than anything and not the caring company it used to be. Long story there.

If you don't have any health problems, Combined Insurance might be a choice. I had a $10K policy on hubby but I wanted to up it to $25K or highter. They wouldn't do it because of his heart surgery.

I have been a member of ForestersFinancial since the early 60's and have a family insurance plan with them that is far more than just insurance. It is a Fraternal Society that actually cares about their members and provides benefits way beyond expectations. My policy is paid up for life and I still get all the benefits they offer, including opportunities to help others, educational scholorships, access to grants and a feeling of belonging that can not be ignored. Google them and read more, you won't be sorry.

I checked it out online and the plans only cover up to age 85.  That's ok for me for now because my sisters are in their 80's and the oldest passed away at 85.  I will keep checking but for now I would like to get the cheapest plan for a cremation because you never know when it's your time and I don't want to leave my children with this debt.

I would certainly like to see a link to where you read that online, because it would be important news to me since I will be 85 this August and would sure like to know if my insurance is null and void,

The whole life or universal life is only AVAILABLE until you are 85, but once you own it and keep up paying premiums you are covered until the dividends provide paid up insurance or you die. Term insurance is for a specific time no matter who you buy it from.

Probably, until you find yourself in some kind of unpleasant situation, which can actually happen to any person during a trip, you will not understand how important it is to take out travel insurance. I no longer travel without insurance from Auras https://auras.insure/travel-insurance-asia/japan/. I found this insurance company by reading reviews on the Internet, and so far everything has been more than successful.
