Off-Topic / Re: Do you kiss family members on the lips?

I used to get goodnight kisses from my parents on the lips when I was young.  I think that stopped when I was around 9.  When I give my niece a goodnight kiss when I'm babysitting, I kiss her on the forehead.  It just seems weird to kiss her on the lips.

Off-Topic / Gagging when brushing teeth?
« on: April 07, 2010, 10:43:50 pm »Message ID: 159480
My wisdom teeth have all come in, and so I need to brush farther back when I brush my teeth (I don't have the money to get them removed), and sometimes, this causes me to gag.  On rare occasions, the gagging is so severe that I've vomited a little.

Has anyone had gagging issues while brushing their teeth and know any good cures?

Off-Topic / Re: Have you ever used a dating website?

I broke up with my girlfriend about 5 weeks ago and have been having a hard time forgetting about her.  Some friends have told me that I need to find someone new to replace her spot in my thoughts.  I've been considering a dating site to try to find someone because I hate going to bars and don't really have the time to go out to places just to find someone.

I can't help but feel some sort of stigma behind using a dating site though, like people think "omg he's such a loser!  He had to use a dating site to find a girl!  What a reject!"

Mine is Mickey Dees

Oh god you make me want to facepalm so badly.  MCDONALDS!?  There's FAR better places to eat.  If that's really your favorite place, you haven't been out much, or you're taking budget into consideration.

Personally, I love Red Lobster (A little bit much for my budget, but I love them!), Applebees (I had them last night - LOVE THEIR RIBS!), and Todai, which is a local Japanese buffet.  REALLY expensive though.  Its like $30 for dinner there on a Saturday night.

Off-Topic / Re: Fear of Flying!
« on: March 28, 2010, 01:07:43 pm »Message ID: 155236
I am going on a trip next month and will have to be on 2 flights to get to my destination .... the first one is only about an hour and a half but the second is 10 1/2 hours!!!  I HATE to fly.  Any suggestions on how to ease the fear and make the time go quickly?

You have to ask yourself...what is there to be afraid of?  You are statistically FAR more likely to get into an accident if you drive than if you were to fly.  If you're one of those that has a fear of looking out the window and noticing the wings flexing and are scared they're going to break off, there are solutions to that.  First, you can always ask if you be be reseated and switch places.  If that doesn't work, just remind yourself that the wings are DESIGNED to flex slightly, and every 747 (Or 737, or whatever you end up flying in) out there has wings that flex slightly, and how often have you heard of a jet's wings just suddenly ripping off?  Now compare that number to how many flights occur EVERY DAY.  Its about as close to 0% as you will get.

If you hate flying because you get motion sick, take some Dramamine or something similar.

Personally, I LOVE flying.  I love the fast acceleration and the feeling of being pushed into your seat as the plane takes off, then watching the ground slowly disappear.  I love flying through the clouds, and then the view from just a couple thousand feet above them.  Its just so beautiful.  Then, once you level off at 36,000 feet, the clouds way below you, the view is just amazing.

One of my personal goals in life ahs been to earn my pilot's license and own a small aircraft.  Just something small that I can take myself and a couple friends sight-seeing.  Something like this:

Dammit now I want to reinstall MS Flight Simulator.  Runs like crap on my machine though.  This GeForce 7950 just doesn't cut it anymore.

Off-Topic / An open letter to Dr Laura Schlessinger
« on: March 28, 2010, 12:56:21 pm »Message ID: 155227
Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them:

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19- 24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Your devoted fan,
Sohcahtoa

Its been two weeks since they went down.  I think they're gone, never to return.

:)    I'll be praying for you, I KNOW God hears & answers prayers.   Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

I've always hated that quote.  Its like a direct attack on science.

I really hope there are not THAT many people with relative (other then military) not living in this country... I do NOT like the idea of a bunch of foreigners taking jobs in this country to send money "home" ...

...

What about the other way around?

Like, what if I got a job as an English teacher in another country and frequently sent money home to my relatives in the US?

Off-Topic / Re: Howard Stern's comment on the Precious actress - your thoughts?
« on: March 17, 2010, 12:05:09 pm »Message ID: 150837
Howard Stern is only saying what's already else is thinking but is afraid to say.

C'mon...LOOK AT HER, and then look at the rest of the regular Hollywood cast of actors.  (singing) One of these things is not like the other...

I highly doubt she's going to have a hugely successful career as an actor.  She's too fat and doesn't even have a pretty face.  And yes, being of that size is going to create all sorts of health problems as she gets older.

She just lucked out on being cast for a part that requires a fat person.

Say what you want about all this being mean, cold-hearted, whatever.  Think about it and you'll realize is the truth, you just don't want to admit it.

I own my own domain and use the e-mail provided by that, using Mozilla Thunderbird as my e-mail client.  Not using web-based e-mail has the nice benefit of being faster and easier, but as a downside, I can't check my e-mail from another computer if I leave Thunderbird running on mine since it downloads the message from the e-mail server and then deletes it.
