Debate & Discuss / Do kids actually want to be spanked?(!)
« on: May 04, 2010, 12:59:19 pm »Message ID: 175607
OK, OK, OK: I'm not here to spark controversy for the sake of it, but there's something that's been causing me to pause and wonder, for all the conventional wisdom, forbidding us to spank (our) children out of fear of serious, long-term psychological repercussions, I've been told by some parents, with their "boots-on-the-ground" experience, questioning if kids misbehave because they want to see what their boundaries are. By doing so, kids with their respective development issues can see what's right vs. what's wrong, so as to be more secure with themselves... and by being more secure with themselves--thanks to their parents' guidance/supervision, they can feel loved by mom and dad. So by direct accounts, does that provocatively mean children will feel unloved if they don't get spanked? I mean, there's something to be said about why kids, or for that matter, adults, still seek outrageous ways of getting (loving?) attention!

Debate & Discuss / Has Obamacare affected your bottom line, job prospects yet?
« on: May 04, 2010, 12:51:57 pm »Message ID: 175605
Even though the health care reform package passed recently--albeit with still a lot of legislative work to be done, i.e, whether or not both houses of Congress will authorize funding for it, I'm wondering how everybody's fiscal situation has been affected--even on a 'psychological' level, since who knows what sort of speculations have impacted how people will invest in our economy.

I guess at my age, I'm wondering what accomplishments, milestones any of us used to indicate how far we progressed in life, let alone succeed in life? What are your milestones?

For me, I had more temp work since the New Year than all of last year! And you?

Off-Topic / So how's the job prospects for everyone here?
« on: January 19, 2010, 02:01:37 am »Message ID: 131195
I've been hearing that the temp sector might pick up, given how many companies are afraid of doing any real hiring; if anything, it's more like a cheaper trial run with workers, paid essentially to prove their worth around their work environment. Your thoughts?

Off-Topic / Re: Did you have a great Christmas this year?

Strangely enough, especially for the past few years if not more, most of my best Christmases then as now, tends to occur before or after the actual set holiday(!), but it's still Christmas in spirit, even with the inconvenient timing! ;)

Well, for me, 2010 will be another year of continuing on with my career aspirations--given my summer internship opportunity, alongside trying something different with going outside of my home; it can be claustrophobic-boring when there's little to nothing else to do!

I'm wondering how many of us have a particularly, set minimal for cashing out personal earnings, given I'm kinda new at this...
