Debate & Discuss / Re: Christian System for Debating

I don't quite get it, they make some claim about some magical being, some supernatural force for which no proof exists, and they give a challenge that we have to prove it's not true.  I have no burden to prove any of a multitude of idiotic claims are untrue, the claimant has all the burden of proof.

Additionally, what's all this idiocy I'm reading about atheism being a religion?  An absence of belief is not a belief.  I don't believe in Mickey Mouse, so now I'm a member of the Mickey Mouse denial religion, and, further, it's my obligation to prove to the idiot Mickey Mouse believers that the spiritual Mickey Mouse doesn't exist.  Some of you have truly turned logic on its head.

All I've got to say is...well spoken!

Also, haters gonna hate.

Not all non-christians are haters. Not all who debate religions are haters. Why do you assume one is filled with hate when they don't believe in what you do?

So nice to see a "different" thread! Tired of "coffee or tea", "favorite dog/cat", etc. type threads; one of the reasons I've been gone for a while. I have a friend who is Wiccan and know some of her coven. It is surprising and disappointing not to see any posts from Wiccans. I'll be staying tuned to this topic :-)

Brainwashing is very difficult to undo! I must say, falconeer and falcon, you guys are doing a marvelous job in presenting arguments to enable the brainwashed to open their eyes to at least look at other opinions/evidence. Alas, some are simply not ready to listen/look.

Thank you falcon9 for clarifying about the laws. I was so angry with this one hospital that would not let a friend of mine visit his significant other in the ICU because he was not a "relative".  The couple had been together for 20 years and there were no other relatives around to visit. It was so very sad. That is just not right!

... HOW DO YOU THINK EXISTENCE STARTED?...  ... my main concern is something after death... like what if its really bad being trapped for eternity in your mind or consicousness or your existence never ending?

It is our nature to ask why about everything but we must also accept the possibility that we may never find all the answers to that which we seek. I'm not saying to stop questioning/discussing but worrying about it is not going to help any. One explanation about something from nothing was well presented by falcon9 and the fractal emergence theory and there are numerous religious theories. I am very interested in some of the answers you will be getting and I think there will be some good ones.  In the mean time, do enjoy life to the best of your ability.

The brief 'answer' I'd theorize is 'fractal emergence', (the longer theories arise from a complex interconnected group of mathematics concerning multiple dimensions, chaos, superstring, fractal and emergence theories).  Emergence theory is technically speculative, (pends verifying evidence), but is based upon existing tangible evidence and 'mathematical proofs' to support the viability of such theories...

I'm impressed, falcon9. Are you a physicist, a fan of TED TV or simply well read? Yes, theories are speculative but are supported by evidence to start those theories on their paths. I much rather base my view points/opinions on logical theories rather than blind faith in anything.

Simple! We aren't scared. We don't get frightened by this mysterious universe and it's age and therefore accept the most-likely possibility that this is the only life we get. I'm extremely happy to be living in a time where we're actually shedding our ancient beliefs (slowly) and finally discovering the truths about the universe around us.  That being the case, it's best to enjoy life to the fullest and try to answer these mysteries through rational/realistic means instead of wasting it on ancient mythology and man-made gods that promote the concept of a rewarding afterlife with not one ounce of proof to give it credibility. I honestly cannot understand how anyone would favor an afterlife with a god who promotes an "OBEY ME OR SUFFER FOR ETERNITY!" philosophy rather than giving the thought that this might be their one shot at life. Respectfully perhaps you can answer that one, Waterbearer?

Well said, Falconer02! I so do agree with enjoying life to the fullest, as well as with the rest that you have said. Oftentimes I hear "god is love!" and also question how can they say that when the treat of eternal suffering is the only option in Chistendom.

Debate & Discuss / Re: Immigration effecting our economy

The political class has decided that cheap labor for their business pals and handouts in exchange for votes trumps their oath of office and the protection of the American worker.  It is sickening, but an unfortunate fact of life.  Politicians selling out Americans for money and votes.

Ain't that the truth! Whatever happened to "We the People?" Oh, yeah, politicians are deaf. I'm so upset with the political scene right now, especially when it comes to the subject of ILLEGALS! Not immigration, if it's done through the proper channels. Very upset that the government doesn't follow their own laws! It is crippling this country. SICKENING!

i have never heard of this site what do they sell

Anything home-made. You can only sell products that you, yourself, have made. Check it out. You can find some very interesting and creative things. It may also give you some inspiration to give it a shot yourself.

I have several friends that list items on Esty and are doing very well. In the next few months, I will also be listing several items when I get the time to get the listings together. I'm hoping it will be a success for me too. The biggest thing with any website is networking. Gotta spread the word to be seen. Give it a try, won't hurt.

I think everyone has the right to be with the one they love and have all the same benefits (including the miserable ones) of a committed relationship such as marriage. The present laws discriminate against those rights because of the same-sex issue which is not fair. Do they actually define marriage as being between a man and a woman in the laws? The dictionary I used defines marriage as an "intimate association or union" but it does not specify that it is to be with a man and a woman. Sexual preference should not be an issue when it comes to rights of individuals committing to an intimate union aka marriage!

Run a scan for adware and such?

Just finished re-imaging my computer two weeks so it's a pretty clean setup.  Adware scan ran day before yesterday and cleaned along with a virus scan.  Just lucky in hitting redirect links I guess.

I've been getting redirected to random pages when I click on say page 2 or 3 of a post. Noticed a lot of advertising jumps randomly inserted in the forum posts. Do I have a redirect virus on my computer or is anyone else being shanghaied to parts unwanted just because you want to check a different page of a post?
