Support / Balance Dropped When I Went to Cash Out and Problems with Radio Loyalty
« on: October 22, 2014, 05:01:23 pm »Message ID: 928763
So, I didn't have much time to be on here while school is in session. Since school has been out, I have been racing the clock trying to get enough credit to cash out before many of my credits expire.Thought I finally hit it today, but when I went to cash out I not only found that the minimum had been upped (I vaguely remember getting an email about this, so that's on me that I forgot) but my balance suddenly dropped $2.28. Considering the time commitment required to squeeze out every penny, that is a lot of money and time, with much more due to expire in the upcoming week.

Add to that the fact that the code to get credited for Radio Loyalty doesn't consistently pop up on the half hour (assuming, of course, that the flash player doesn't crash and force the clock to restart, since there are so many Windows 8 compatibility issues), that's an awful lot of time and effort put in in good faith for which the payments are now disappearing or not showing up at all. Really unhappy right now.  >:(

Never mind. Literally right after I posted this I looked at someone else's post and discovered they were having the same problem with the offers pages. The answer posted worked for me too. Thanks swogden!  :D

So, I listen to Radio Loyalty almost every day. Yesterday while I had it up my lovely little kitty took a walk across the keyboard. Now almost all of the graphics on it are HUGE! I have to scroll over just to see the channels, and the channel menu is too big to fit on the screen. Even the Captcha box won't fit on the screen. How do I fix this?

Ooh, I love playing musical instruments. I've played the violin, flute, tuba, and a little piano. I would love to get better at the piano. I find playing certain songs can be a great stress reliever. I've also always wanted to play the cello. Actually the reason I played the violin as a kid was because the music teacher said I was too small to play the cello or the viola, although now I would love to learn to play the fiddle part to "Devil Went Down to Georgia."

Mostly cards. I got into the habit of using mostly cards because I used to be notoriously bad about dropping cash out of my pockets. Now there are certain places or situations where I can only pay with cash, so I try to save what little cash I carry for those situations. Like it's really frustrating to be out and really thirsty and standing in front of a vending machine, the only place to get a drink, and realize I spent my last couple of bucks at the store where I could have used my card. Yup, done that a few times.

Neither, I'm a bum, lol. I've had a tax guy since I started paying taxes. The best part is he's only about $20 more than Turbo Tax, but I don't have to stress (which is worth the money on its own) and he's certified to stand before the IRS for me if I ever get audited. I doubt I'll ever get audited, though, since he's been doing my parents taxes since before I was born, and they haven't been audited once since he started preparing their taxes for them. I'm big on DIY, but this is one of those things that I have no problem turning to a professional for.

Off-Topic / Re: Are News stories about shooting deaths perpetuating more shootings?
« on: February 05, 2013, 12:39:30 am »Message ID: 683228
Studies have actually shown that extensive media coverage of certain events can lead to copycatting. The evidence is particularly strong for suicides, but anecdotal evidence seems to support this for mass shootings also. All the details are too much to go into here, but it creates a catch-22 for the media. Covering shootings spreads the idea to individuals who may empathize or identify with the shooter, thereby increasing the risk of future shootings. However, not covering shootings may be considered socially irresponsible (we should know about dangerous events in our society) and disrespectful towards the victims. There's no easy answer.  :dontknow:

I know a stomach bug has been going around, but I wouldn't be overly worried about it. Even though some people can become very ill from any new strain of virus, the reality is that many viruses (like the flu virus) mutate into a new strain every year. And being overly clean is actually what creates these super bugs. For example, MRSA is a super bug that originated in hospitals because the clean conditions required there eliminated all but the most antibiotic resistant bacteria.

Just follow all the normal hand washing suggestions, eat healthy, try to keep plenty of sleep, and don't stress! Lack of sleep and high stress lower your immunity, leaving you more vulnerable to all those opportunistic little buggers you encounter every day. Keep healthy!

Off-Topic / Re: Hair donations for children with cancer

I donated my hair once. For most charities the requirement is now 10 inches if it is to be made into a wig. I went with locks of love, but there are a few out there if you google it. Some salons do donation days, or you can cut it and mail it yourself. I cut it myself, partly because I couldn't handle the thought of someone chopping that much of my hair off. Then I had to go get it fixed since it was ridiculously crooked, which gave the woman who fixed it a good laugh.

For everyone with shorter hair who want to donate, believe it or not, there's a charity for that too! Or at least there was when I donated my hair (it's been a while). I ran across a charity that takes hair from trims (mostly clippings from salon floors - from a couple inches to less than an inch) and uses it to make mats. Apparently hair is very absorbent, and they use the mats to soak up spilled oil on the beaches.

Maybe one of these days I'll donate again if I can keep my cat from playing with my hair and giving me split ends.  ;D

Off-Topic / Re: Do You Enjoy The Library?

Yes and no. I'm a huge bookworm, and the rare times I get to go to the library I love perusing for new books, topics, and authors. Sadly my local library is less than impressive, so when I've been looking for something in particular I rarely find it. However, a large, well-stocked library with comfy chairs is a nice place to spend a lazy afternoon.

Guess it all depends on what you consider better. I much prefer college to high school, but everyone has different preferences. There's at least as much work in college, but the best part is when you get past your general education requirements you can start picking out the classes you find most interesting. It's totally worth all the work. Keep trucking!

I don't blame you, I find working out boring too. Years ago I used to be really good about going to the gym, but after I sprained my ankle and couldn't go for a while, I never went back. Sports are definitely a more interesting way to work out.

I haven't tried making homemade pizza yet, but I bought a pizza stone a little while ago. It came with cookbook. Probably the most important recipe is the dough recipe since what you want to top it with is really all up to you. Can't wait to try making my own pizza just the way I want.  ;D

About mid-40s and starting to dry a little bit from a few days of rain here in southern California. What was really crazy was the heat wave we had last week. Eighty degrees? Really? In the middle of January in the northern hemisphere? I can't keep up anymore, lol.

Off-Topic / Re: What would you do if you went Blind

I think I would bawl my eyes out for quite a while. I'm a big horse lover and have a wonderful horse of my own. Some horses are great with people with various challenges, but I don't think my boy would be safe to handle if I was blind. If going blind meant having to give him up, absolutely I would cry. Finding another equine companion wouldn't lessen the pain of losing him.
