Off-Topic / Re: How do you vacation.
« on: August 17, 2019, 09:45:50 am »Message ID: 1288802
Our favorite getaway is to drive up to Northern California to a little spot on Tomales Bay.  It is north of San Francisco in the middle of the Pt. Reyes National Seashore and is peaceful and beautiful.

Actually, we live in a vacation destination!  Just over the hill to the Pacific Ocean & Malibu; an hour drive to Disneyland; and, if you're into sightseeing Hollywood style - a 20 minute drive to Beverly Hills.  We love having company and showing people around - always fun.

Off-Topic / Re: Pancakes, Waffles, or French Toast?

French toast for sure.  It's good on its own - doesn't need a lot of syrup.  Pancakes are too doughy and waffles need to be dressed up to be good.

no, I've never covered my laptop cam - If it lights up, it's on; otherwise it's off.  And I have to give permission for access.

Personal story - My husband (married for several decades!) and I met on a blind date.  By our second date I knew we'd always be together.  Five months exactly from the day we met, we were married.  A true love story!

I use Evernote mostly on my phone.  For instance, I'll be talking "books" with someone and get a strong recommendation.  So I'll quickly write the title in my Books file.  Or I'll see a photo of a storage unit (recently in Ikea) - snapped a pic and filed it in my Organization ideas.  Or a pic of an unusal pair of earrings to save for design inspiration.  Kinda like my own personal Pinterest, lol.  It really comes in handy for names of things that I know I'll forget the moment the conversation is over.  It costs $$ to synch evernote across more than 2 sites.  I really just keep it on my phone with a backup on my laptop.

Off-Topic / Re: Concept of God
« on: December 28, 2017, 12:31:38 pm »Message ID: 1187571
I think of "god" as the focal point in a very large mass of light and energy.  Light and energy.  Not human form; not animal form; not male nor female.  I see this as the source of what we refer to as our souls/spirit.  When we are born, a portion of this light and energy enters us and when we die, it leaves and goes back.  Please remember that the bible is written by humans.  As are other holy books.  Each is written in accordance with the writer's own belief system.  The appearance of the Principals in the bible stories follows that which the writer knows best.  Even though many of the stories in the bible are based on actual happenings, they have been written to align with the writer's own circumstances.  That is how we end up with a story about a male, white Jesus figure.   Keep an open mind, study other religions, take a class in comparative religions - you'll definitely learn a lot.

Off-Topic / Re: Which do you enjoy the most fresh or cooked peaches?

I LOVE peach season - unfortunately it doesn't last long enough before they start getting mealy.  Right now the peaches are at their peak around here and we sure are taking advantage.  Always fresh - not cooked; the best healthy dessert!

No kids at home so I'm not directly affected.  However!  The Y will be much less crowded when I go to work out.  I'll have to adjust a couple of routes driving to nearby destinations, making sure to avoid the time school is dismissed.  And soon we'll be talking about Thanksgiving, lol.

It won't affect our family...but, if it did I'd be angry.  I hope that Disney gets a truckload of negative feedback...and perhaps thinks better of putting its loyal customers second and its shareholders first.

Off-Topic / Re: What are you reading now

I'm reading When Heaven and Earth Changed Places (this month's selection by our Book Club).  It's a memoir written by a Vietnamese woman about her childhood during the Vietnam War, her escape to the United States, and her return to visit Vietnam 16 years later.
It's VERY interesting.  AND inspirational.  This woman had to endure so much through the years.  Her strength is pretty amazing.
BTW, I'll add my thumbs up to Glass Castle - an excellent read!

Off-Topic / Re: Do you keep secrets from your spouse?

Of course I keep secrets!  And before all the "holier than thou" types jump all over me - how many of YOU have been happily married for almost 50 years?

Just because you're married doesn't mean you stop being an individual.  I think one of the great things is this:  we give each other space.  We love each other very much but we are still individuals with our own interests.  NO ONE PERSON CAN FULFIL ANOTHER 100%
And I'm not talking about sex.

We have been faithful to each other for all this time.  At least where it counts.  Doesn't mean we gave up flirting and having good friends of the opposite sex.

But I give him space to pursue interests that he enjoys and he does the same.  And this involves overnight trips sometimes.  But that's not a problem in this household.  Because we trust each other implicitly.

And I daresay we are closer than most couples.  And we have a very full happy life together.

Off-Topic / Re: What Do Yo Think About President Trp banning the 6 muslim countries

Re Carter and the Iran ban:

......Carter acted against Iranian nationals, not an entire religion.

"The difference is that Iranians were citizens of, and owed allegiance to, a country that was acting against the United States," said Kermit Roosevelt, a law professor at the University of Pennsylvania. "The class of ‘all Muslims’ has no similar connection to ISIS or terrorists. That makes the analogy seriously flawed."
