Off-Topic / Freelancing
« on: September 30, 2019, 08:33:19 am »Message ID: 1294850
I am in the process of becoming self-employed as a freelancer. Are there any other freelancers on this site? If so what advice do you have to offer me as I get started? I hope to be able to transition to more freelancing and less of my hourly job I have right now to pay the bills.

I laughed more at this post than I am probably willing to admit. It's definitely not a joke that you can tell to just anyone or in every social situation, but it is funny. Thanks for the laughs.

I have taken Meyers Briggs and it said I'm an introvert, but I find it hard to believe because I talk to everyone.

I don't like crowds but I love talking to people.

:fish:
The common misconception about introvert vs extrovert is that they are determined by how much you enjoy talking to people. That actually isn't true. They are more about where you get your energy from and how you process information. Introverts get energy from alone time and process information in their own heads. Extroverts get energy from other people and prefer to process information by talking with someone else.

I'm more of an ambivert (in the middle of the spectrum) that leans more toward introversion. I enjoy being around people but I also need my quiet, alone time to recharge. I enjoy socializing but find small talk exhausting.

That is an interesting story and I am so glad that we have car radios now. But this post is very long and the formatting is weird (probably from copying and pasting this from a web site or PDF with special formatting coded into it). I think a summary would have been sufficient.

I've been so busy lately that I haven't really paid attention to what movies are coming out in the next couple of months. I am intrigued that about the Zombieland sequel because I thought the first one was pretty funny. Other than that I really don't know what I'm looking forward to.

I haven't done or seen a hyprmx video in ages. I wish they would come back.
Same. I loved those offers. When they were around I hardly ever had trouble qualifying for PTC. Now it is a real struggle. FusionCash, pretty please bring this back.

It kind of depends whether I am looking for an in depth conversation or I just need to let someone know something without needing a response. Also it can depend if I am in an environment where texting may be easier than calling (i.e. a really loud place or somewhere that needs to be quieter for whatever reason).

I think I blinked and missed most of September. Of course that probably happens when you have to work overtime hours without much notice. But October should be fun and my work schedule should lessen.

You're doing the right thing doing jobs that isn't your dream jobs. Me, I just try to live off my husband's pension & budget the monies so I can survive each month without going into welfare or government assistance. Don't give up & good Luck!
Thanks. I struggle with feeling like a failure for being another person not using their college degree. That's why I'm starting my own business. I'm really hoping that I can eventually transition to doing more of that and less work in the survival job. Fingers crossed.

I don't know why you would think you are a failure for not using your college degree.

Hopefully things will work out for you in starting your own business.  I remember years ago I worked on a job I absolutely hated and a co-worker, who I also went to high school with, telling me ...  Just start your own business.  I wanted to punch her. lol   Starting your own business is not that easy.  If it was then every person in the world would just start their own business, watch the money roll in, and work very little.

You do what you have to do to survive.  You are not a failure because you took a job you did not want to take.  A lot of people have done that over the years of time.

I think the feeling like a failure comes when I see others my age in careers they have worked for. I'm trying not to compare myself to them, but still. Anyway, my business is a freelance service that I intend to register legally to enjoy the tax breaks and appear more professional. I won't actually have a brick and mortar location so that might make the process slightly easier to start. The hard part will be finding clients.

Well that's kinda scary. So glad that I don't live in that region of the United States. Hopefully it stays rare and there aren't any new cases of it. Or maybe some kind of treatment will be created to lower or prevent the mortality rate. Wishing the best for the people in those states.

First of all happy retirement. Second of all, it sounds like you have earned the trips so go forth and enjoy them. Seeing new places and visiting family you haven't seen in a while can be the most rejuvenating thing in the world.

I usually don't go to movies in the theater due to cost. When I do watch movies I tend to watch ones that are PG-13. Sometimes the violence, cussing and inappropriate content are just unneeded to the plot of the story and are just added in to get that higher rating instead of telling a good story.

You're doing the right thing. Your like my parents when they were a couple with kids. They were 2ships crossing in the night. Dad was a doctor & worked during the daytime & Mom was  a nurse & worked during the grave yard shift. You guys just need alone time together. Don't take things for granted & spend every minute you can together.
That's what we're trying to do. Sometimes we meet up for lunch on his break and before I go in. Sometimes he swings by my job just to say hi. It has taught us to not take time together for granted. Maybe it will make our relationship even stronger.

good luck to you. my daughter worked at a store for years .She liked it ncause she liked people. maybe don't think of it as a survival job.
I guess I've never thought about it like that, but that's a really good idea. Attitude is everything and maybe changing my thinking process going in could make a world of difference. Thanks for the advice!
