I love the USA and am proud to be an American, but lately I have become increasingly concerned about this country. I am an avid fan of HLN's Nancy Grace. I watch her show almost every night, and have for quite some time. I like her strength and her compassion. Lately, I have found her show rather alarming.
She has always been an advocate for missing children as well as victims of crime. Lately, I have found that children are being abducted at an alarming rate. A beautiful 2 year old Florida girl, Caylee Anthony, was missing for several months, until a citizen found her skeletal remains in a wooded area not far from her home. Her own mother now sits in jail accused of murdering her own baby. Another girl from Florida, 5 year old Hayleigh Cummings, has been missing since February of this year. Her babysitter, turned step mother is under pressure from police, because they feel that she has been withholding crucial information to the girls disappearance. A 5 year old California boy, who was disabled, is presumed dead at the hands of his foster parents. The list goes on, and on, and on.
I would like to know how we have let this happen! How can someone commit such horrible crimes against innocent children? Have we really become such a relaxed society that these behaviors are acceptable? I know crimes against children did not begin recently. They have always occurred, but were just recently brought into the spotlight by the media. I would like to know why the rate seems to have increased. These stories make me angry and sad at the same time. I feel so helpless, because I could do nothing to stop these babies from facing the abuse and torture they endured. At the same time I am outraged by these adults actions.
I know times are tough. We are all struggling to make ends meet. Millions are without jobs and face losing their homes and other possessions. People are forced to choose between paying bills and putting food on the table, I get it. These criminals need to realize that these babies did nothing to cause the state of our country. These babies were not asked to be born and were not given a choice as to who their parents would be. I think we all need to start asking the right questions. Why do these people behave the way that they do? Is there really a mental defect that causes one to harm or even kill a child? Why are these people allowed to take another breath after committing such horrific crimes? What is REALLY going on?
