Off-Topic / Beautiful Fall Colors
« on: October 11, 2020, 04:19:34 pm »Message ID: 1341997
This weekend I was fortunate to be able to take in some of the beautiful fall colors.

Yesterday I drove my Mom through the local game preserve and just enjoy all the different colors of leaves on the trees ,bushes, and vines.  She is 90, and doing quite well.  She still lives on the home place but with this COVID stuff she has been rather locked in and doesn't get out often.  We had such a pleasant afternoon.

Today my husband and I hiked the trails on in a nearby state park.  It was windy, but warm.  We left a bit earlier than we had planned as the weather app showed a thunderstorm was heading our way.  We got home before any rain fell.  So far, I've just heard a few raindrops hit the window.  Not sure if it will pass us by or not.

We had a FROST ADVISORY overnight and it supposed to end at 8am today.
It is currently just 32 degrees out at 6:30am.

I didn't cover any flowers this time so I guess they will be done for now.

Off-Topic / No-See-Ums
« on: September 27, 2020, 11:06:34 am »Message ID: 1340404
This is year has been the worst for me getting bit by those little black bugs.....some call them No-See-Ums.

If I step outside the door, I get attacked!  We actually had a swarm of them by our back door.  My son used bug spray and thousands fell.
Some, however, crawled through the cracks and are actually inside my house.  Luckily they have been just staying on the window, so I have been able to kill these guys too.

Off-Topic / LONG Wait Times when calling Support
« on: June 06, 2020, 08:51:55 am »Message ID: 1327369
Has anyone ever gotten frustrated when calling for support from anywhere?

Today I received a phone call from "CitiCard."  I am always leary when I get a call FROM someone saying they are my credit card company.  I prefer to hang up from that caller and then I call my credit card company myself.

Today I was on hold - 40 minutes - between getting disconnected and redialing etc .....grrrrgh... such a waste of my time.  I know they are very busy and it is expected that there will be a wait time.....but, when I was all done, it was good news and the lady and I got a laugh out of it.

Off-Topic / Feathered Visitors

This morning, my bird feeder had several Goldfinches on it.  Then a Hummingbird arrived!  YES!!

As I was enjoying their antics, a medium sized songbird landed on the shepherd's hook.  It was black on its back and head,  white breast with a brilliant Red patch under its chin.

I was too slow to get a picture so I googled and discovered that I had a visit from a Red Breasted Grosbeak.

COVID-19:  Seems like a person can't be anywhere....news, Facebook, phone......what do you hear or read?  COVID-19
At work, one of the residents (who is extremely immunocompromised) is nervous.  Even the pocasts he watches about comics, superheroes, etc are ALL on the COVID-19 topic.

Here in FusionCash, the recurring topic seems to be Lack of Videos and non-credit

Off-Topic / Robins Have Returned - I guess We're in for 3 More Snows
« on: March 18, 2020, 04:52:04 pm »Message ID: 1317376
A few weeks ago the robins returned to southwest Minnesota.

There is an Old Wives Tale about Robins.  The saying goes: Spring will come when it snows on the Robins’ tail 3 times. So what that means is that once the Robin comes back, it will snow three times and then the winter will be all over.

So far it has snowed ONCE.  Today, we are currently in another Winter Weather Advisory:

Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.

That will make it TWO times.

Spring is getting closer!!

Off-Topic / How early is TOO EARLY to celebrate someone's 90th Birthday?
« on: March 18, 2020, 04:44:41 pm »Message ID: 1317373
Every year our family has a Reunion in June.  It is always scheduled for the next year right after the current one is held.

This year it will be June 28.  My Mom will be 90 in August.

Since everyone will already be making the trip to Iowa, we plan to celebrate her big day in June.

Officially she won't be 90 for 5.5 weeks.  I hope no one has issues with us throwing her a celebration a bit early.
