Debate & Discuss / Do we even 'deserve' to celebrate the 4th?
« on: July 04, 2011, 07:04:26 am »Message ID: 379428
It's great that families can take their kids to parades and then have a picnic in the park before the fireworks. How many of your neighbors suddenly become 'patriotic' because they stick a flag up for a weekend on a couple holidays, the 4th of July included? Do half the people here on FC even know what the history of this country is and why we have the 4th of July, Veterans Day, or Memorial Day designated? I highly doubt it and that is sad. Why can't this country live up to all the hype and take care of it's own?

I just saw the below from a friend, don't know where she got it, but it made me put this topic up.

In the U.S.A. Homeless go without eating.
In the U.S.A. Elderly go without needed medicines.
In the U.S.A. Mentally ill go without treatment.
In the U.S.A. Troops go without proper equipment.
In the U.S.A. Veterans go without benefits they were promised.
Yet we donate billions to other countries before helping our own first.

Debate & Discuss / Another reason for me to stay away from Facebook
« on: October 18, 2010, 06:24:17 am »Message ID: 255937
I have never trusted Facebook, or any other social networking sites, because they are NOT secure, no matter what they say. If you use any banking info for a company tied to Facebook, and people do it all the time, you put yourself at risk right there. Now, through yet another Facebook 'glitch' personal info is out there. I just saw this in today's Wall Street Journal:

Facebook in Privacy Breach
Top-Ranked Applications Transmit Personal IDs, a Journal Investigation Finds.

Many of the most popular applications, or "apps," on the social-networking site Facebook Inc. have been transmitting identifying information—in effect, providing access to people's names and, in some cases, their friends' names—to dozens of advertising and Internet tracking companies, a Wall Street Journal investigation has found.

The issue affects tens of millions of Facebook app users, including people who set their profiles to Facebook's strictest privacy settings. The practice breaks Facebook's rules, and renews questions about its ability to keep identifiable information about its users' activities secure.

For all of you addicted to FarmVille: Three of the top 10 apps, including FarmVille, also have been transmitting personal information about a user's friends to outside companies.

Offers / Money increased on survey
« on: September 28, 2010, 08:48:41 am »Message ID: 244508
I have great luck with the new(er) SSI Daily Survey and just noticed after completing it this morning that it now pays $.55 instead of $.50. That's great, a nickel is a nickel, and maybe if more start taking it, the company will offer more. I say that only because I am under the impression that they, and not FC, determine the payout. Either way, it's a good thing. 8)

Debate & Discuss / Are you seeing same thing I am?
« on: September 21, 2010, 09:52:05 am »Message ID: 241005
What I am asking about is the Debate/Discuss section and I am wondering if there is something wrong with my browser. I keep getting nothing but 3 threads/topics with 'recent replies' from almost 12 hours ago, one thread in that is locked (AGAIN), and the rest of the page is just a bunch of useless spamming that really ought to be in Off Topic!

The 16 new threads are totally aggravating, to say the least, and now I actually wish Admin would come in and do a massive delete by everything this poster decided to spam us with. I am so disappointed that we are now back in the 5 year old "I'll show you guys!" mode. I spent a couple hours on one of my professional medical forums and came back here (throughout the time on there) to see IF anything had changed here. That's why I am asking my question. I also brought THIS forum up to the people on there without naming it and they were all basically appalled that one member could be such a 'pest' and not be kicked off or at least banned for a period of time in hopes they would learn something and stop the behaviour when allowed to come back.

That's all I wanted to say other than, once again, hate being extremely disappointed and pretty P'd off at this. :(

Debate & Discuss / How to get a thread locked, unlocked, and relocked
« on: September 20, 2010, 04:58:51 pm »Message ID: 240608
I guess I should apologize to all of you since my comment seemed to be the one that got the (now) famous
"If you believe in God, You're a retard" thread locked gain. I guess I went too far off topic and it was HER thread, but no one was on topic. I guess the OP was on topic though because she was talking about earnings banners and a lot of other things that had to do with the topic 100%.
So, here's my 'so sorry' to all who are upset with me over this. :notworthy:

Now, would you all please stay on topic in MY thread?  ;D

Debate & Discuss / God did not create the universe, says Hawking
« on: September 03, 2010, 05:21:29 pm »Message ID: 231954
By Michael Holden – Thu Sep 2, 9:08 am ET
LONDON (Reuters) – God did not create the universe and the "Big Bang" was an inevitable consequence of the laws of physics, the eminent British theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking argues in a new book.

In "The Grand Design," co-authored with U.S. physicist Leonard Mlodinow, Hawking says a new series of theories made a creator of the universe redundant, according to the Times newspaper which published extracts on Thursday.

"Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist," Hawking writes.

"It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the universe going."

Off-Topic / Sinatra on MySpace
« on: August 25, 2010, 08:09:28 am »Message ID: 226008
A friend just sent this to me and I got a good laugh out of it. We've had so many threads about the internet and social sites taking over lives, I thought this was perfect. I know some of you 'young ones' out there may have NO clue who Frank Sinatra is. I grew up with him via my father, so go ask your parents if you don't know who he is. ;) I'm sure they would enjoy it too!

Suggestions / Kohler or Admin could you...
« on: August 15, 2010, 10:17:41 am »Message ID: 220926
Please check into the YellowBook video?! It has been up for 10 days now, that I am aware of, and there are posts all over the place about it not crediting for anyone. There is obviously something wrong. Correct me on this, but doesn't the advertiser still receive money every time it is watched? If they do, and we are NOT getting the $.08, they're making lots of money and we are getting nothing. Speaking for myself, I have watched it 25 times (looked at my clicked offers list) hoping "this time I'll get it!" and zilch.
Thanks!

Support / Admin: Forum Posting Bonus pushed back?
« on: July 31, 2010, 10:12:38 am »Message ID: 214238
I just went to the section to claim the $3 bonus to make sure I had already put in this month's. Now, all of a sudden, my bonus request for the month of June is showing as "Estimated time to credit" = 32 days, just like the July one. According to what has been showing, it should have been in my account today, or in another couple days at most. ???

Do we have another 'glitch' going on in accounting? I have never had this happen before.

Debate & Discuss / God Hinting At Retirement
« on: July 19, 2010, 07:05:17 am »Message ID: 208792
The following is from "The Onion" - a purely satirical publication. I found it very humorous and not offensive. Now, I realize that is coming from my viewpoint as an atheist, but I think even those of you who are very strong in your beliefs will find it entertaining. I put it on here for amusement and in NO way as a means to offend or make fun of anyone here. I thought we needed a little light humor.  ;)

July 19, 2010

THE HEAVENS—At a press conference Tuesday, God Almighty, our Lord and Heavenly Father, gave his strongest indication yet that he might soon step down from his post as the supreme ruler of all things.

Following a routine address during which God confirmed the recent extinction of several thousand species, the Divine Creator fielded questions regarding rumors of his possible retirement.

"I've been at this a long time," said God, ∞, the all-knowing, all-powerful being who has presided over the cosmos since forming it from sheer nothingness nearly 14 billion years ago. "And the truth is, this was never something I planned on doing forever. Lately, in fact, I've begun to wonder if I should move on sooner rather than later."

Over the past few centuries, God has on numerous occasions deflected speculation that his reign might be winding down, but his remarks Tuesday appeared to signal a shift in celestial policy.

Debate & Discuss / "I'm Tired"
« on: May 23, 2010, 08:46:46 am »Message ID: 182879
I have been holding onto this, not knowing whether or not to post it. In light of so many 'volatile' topics and feelings in the Forums lately, I personally feel it holds a lot of thruths and might just be something good for all of us to look at. I know the man who wrote this, have for 25+ years, and am posting it here with his full permission. He happens to be one of the (very) few people I truly admire and look up to.
       ***********************************************************************************

I'm Tired

I’ll be 63 soon. Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce, and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I’ve worked, hard, since I was 18. Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven’t called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn’t inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there’s no retirement in sight, and I’m tired. Very tired.

I’m tired of being told that I have to “spread the wealth around” to people who don’t have my work ethic. I’m tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy or stupid to earn it.

I’m tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to “keep people in their homes.” Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I’m willing to help. But if they bought McMansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the leftwing Congresscritters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them—with their own money.

I’m tired of being told how bad America is by leftwing millionaires like Michael Moore, George Soros and Hollywood entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities America offers. In thirty years, if they get their way, the United States will have the religious freedom and women’s rights of Saudi Arabia, the economy of Zimbabwe, the freedom of the press of China, the crime and violence of Mexico, the tolerance for Gay people of Iran, and the freedom of speech of Venezuela. Won’t multiculturalism be beautiful?

I’m tired of being told that Islam is a “Religion of Peace,” when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family “honor;” of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren’t “believers;” of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for “adultery;” of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur’an and Shari’a law tells them to.

I believe “a man should be judged by the content of his character, not by the color of his skin.” I’m tired of being told that “race doesn’t matter” in the post-racial world of President Obama, when it’s all that matters in affirmative action jobs, lower college admission and graduation standards for minorities (harming them the most), government contract set-asides, tolerance for the ghetto culture of violence and fatherless children that hurts minorities more than anyone, and in the appointment of US Senators from Illinois. I think it’s very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln wrote the emancipation proclamation. I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less in an all-knowing government.

I’m tired of a news media that thinks Bush’s fundraising and inaugural expenses were obscene, but that think Obama’s, at triple the cost, were wonderful. That thinks Bush exercising daily was a waste of presidential time, but Obama exercising is a great example for the public to control weight and stress, that picked over every line of Bush’s military records, but never demanded that Kerry release his, that slammed Palin with two years as governor for being too inexperienced for VP, but touted Obama with three years as senator as potentially the best president ever.

Wonder why people are dropping their subscriptions or switching to Fox News? Get a clue. I didn’t vote for Bush in 2000, but the media and Kerry drove me to his camp in 2004.

I’m tired of being told that out of “tolerance for other cultures” we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in America, while no American group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance.

I’m tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs. We also own a three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live. Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore’s, and if you’re greener than Gore, you’re green enough.

I’m tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off? I don’t think Gay people choose to be Gay, but I damn sure think druggies chose to take drugs. And I’m tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried marijuana.

I’m tired of illegal aliens being called “undocumented workers,” especially the ones who aren’t working, but are living on welfare or crime. What’s next? Calling drug dealers, “Undocumented Pharmacists”? And, no, I’m not against Hispanics. Most of them are Catholic and it’s been a few hundred years since Catholics wanted to kill me for my religion. I’m willing to fast track for citizenship any Hispanic person who can speak English, doesn’t have a criminal record and who is self-supporting without family on welfare, or who serves honorably for three years in our military. Those are the citizens we need.

I’m tired of latte liberals and journalists, who would never wear the uniform of the Republic themselves, or let their entitlement-handicapped kids near a recruiting station, trashing our military. They and their kids can sit at home, never having to make split-second decisions under life and death circumstances, and bad mouth better people then themselves. Do bad things happen in war? You bet. Do our troops sometimes misbehave? Sure. Does this compare with the atrocities that were the policy of our enemies for the last fifty years—and still are? Not even close. So here’s the deal. I’ll let myself be subjected to all the humiliation and abuse that was heaped on terrorists at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo, and the critics can let themselves be subject to captivity by the Muslims who tortured and beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, or the Muslims who tortured and murdered Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins in Lebanon, or the Muslims who ran the blood-spattered Al Qaeda torture rooms our troops found in Iraq, or the Muslims who cut off the heads of schoolgirls in Indonesia, because the girls were Christian. Then we’ll compare notes. British and American soldiers are the only troops in history that civilians came to for help and handouts, instead of hiding from in fear.

I’m tired of people telling me that their party has a corner on virtue and the other party has a corner on corruption. Read the papers—bums are bi-partisan. And I’m tired of people telling me we need bi-partisanship. I live in Illinois, where the “Illinois Combine” of Democrats and Republicans has worked together harmoniously to loot the public for years. And I notice that the tax cheats in Obama’s cabinet are bi-partisan as well.

I’m tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I’m tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

Speaking of poor, I’m tired of hearing people with air-conditioned homes, color TVs and two cars called poor. The majority of Americans didn’t have that in 1970, but we didn’t know we were “poor.” The poverty pimps have to keep changing the definition of poor to keep the dollars flowing.

I’m real tired of people who don’t take responsibility for their lives and actions. I’m tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination, or big-whatever for their problems.

Yes, I’m damn tired. But I’m also glad to be 63. Because, mostly, I’m not going to get to see the world these people are making. I’m just sorry for my granddaughter.

Support / No reply and no credit
« on: May 03, 2010, 06:50:13 am »Message ID: 174886
This post is for Kohler or someone else who has the power to do something. I have followed all directions, so don't need members telling me what I should be doing, thanks.

Will someone please tell me WHY it is now another 13 days since any communication re support ticket #3430301? I have sent every single thing you have requested, at least 2 times, and am still being told you "Have to verify my e-mail confirmation from Identity Guard". I have verified IP address, am now into my first month of being billed BY Identity Guard, and more than 30 days into asking you for manual credit, as I was instructed to do so in an e-mail from FC. I saw in the Forums recently (4-27-2010) that you are willing to reissue a check to a member from 2 YEARS ago because it bounced, but I cannot get anyone to do something about this? It does NOT take weeks and weeks to verify an e-mail confirmation sent to you verbatim from my address. I have one address and e-mail, the same one here, and it can't be verified?

I know you have access to all communications about this because I am able to access them via Support and Offer status. I signed up for this (through YOUR site) in good faith and am actually USING the service and paying for it, but cannot get the credit in my FC account. This is NOT right, especially in light of the reason given - "you have to verify my e-mail confirmation from Identity Guard" - what takes over a month to verify that? How could I possibly have 'faked' the confirmation from them or the fact I am now a paying member for their service? I signed up for Identity Guard on (3-27-2010) and opened the support ticket on (3-29-2010). The last thing I heard was on (4-22-2010) saying, for the second time, we will get back to you after we verify the e-mail confirmation."

I will send a copy of every single thing to Admin if that is what is needed. This is a $16.00 credit, not a complaint about not receiving a lousy 15 cents. I am leery of signing up for anything else and that means you will not get the money from the advertisers either.
