Off-Topic / Robin Hood- BBC version
« on: September 30, 2013, 08:06:38 am »Message ID: 799630
Has anyone seen the BBC series Robin Hood? I recently discovered it on Netflix. Its story line was different than what I've read as well as the movies I've seen. I enjoyed the first season. The last season, not quite as awesome, but still a lot better than other series I've seen.

Off-Topic / Nut Allergies
« on: September 30, 2013, 08:02:18 am »Message ID: 799628
It seems that a lot of people have nut and peanut allergies these days. Many schools and kids' activities ban peanuts and nuts from lunches and snacks brought from home or grocery store. What are your experiences with this? Do you think it's a good idea to ban foods- even foods that MAY CONTAIN NUTS OR PEANUTS from such activities?

My husband was one of the kids growing up who was allergic to nuts. No one changed the rules to keep him safe. He learned how to keep himself safe. I wonder if it's better to help them kids learn how to stay safe or if it is better to have everyone around them keep them safe and hope for the best when they venture out on their own as grown ups.

Off-Topic / Emergency Preparedness

Right now, I am very grateful that we organized our 72 hour kits. It made evacuating easy during the fires that happened in my area. It also was easier to figure out where I was going and what I was doing because we recently reviewed what we had and where it was located in our house.

7 of my friends lost their homes, but made it out alive. A total of 509 homes were destroyed in the fire near my house.

Even if you don't think you're at risk for an evacuation due to fires, earthquakes, volcanoes, flooding, hurricanes, please get one ready. It will give you peace of mind when something unexpected happens.

Off-Topic / New Year's Resolutions
« on: February 20, 2013, 10:08:05 pm »Message ID: 691202
There are only 8 days left in February. How is everyone doing on their resolutions?

I didn't set my resolutions by January 1st. Some I didn't make until the end of January. Some of my resolutions include losing weight (about 25-30 pounds) by the end of the year, treating my family better than I have in the past, and spending a lot of time reading.

I've lost 5+ pounds in the last 3 weeks.
I am stepping back and thinking more about what I will do in the situations that tend to arise repeatedly. I'm still a long way from reaching my goal, but my family life is improving.
I am reading a lot, which I find relaxing and a great diversion from my stressful life.

Support / FusionCash Youtube videos
« on: February 13, 2013, 05:36:24 pm »Message ID: 687827
Several months ago, I made some youtube videos showing how awesome FusionCash is and why I use it in hopes that I could get some referral activity. Then, many months later, the videos were taken down for "inappropriate material." Did FC have some rule against it or encourage YouTube to take it down because they don't like my videos. Is there a FC TOS against youtube videos about FC  to recruit others that I missed?

Off-Topic / Captchas

All over the internet there are captchas to prevent spamming and to make sure that we're humans, not robots or computers. I often laugh at them. Do you?

Today, I saw this captcha "Hard Captcha is hard." LOL

I miss some of the content pages I used to click- especially the movies and recipes. Oh well.

However, today, I enjoyed the comic so much that I pinned it on Pinterest!

Off-Topic / Lower Gas Prices- Just in time for holiday travel!
« on: December 20, 2012, 07:22:58 am »Message ID: 659403
The gas prices in my area dropped from $3.50ish to the $2.90-$3.00 range. That in itself is a relief- kind of like a Christmas present for my wallet/budget! What are the gas prices in your area?

Offers / new grocery item survey
« on: November 16, 2012, 07:52:20 pm »Message ID: 643007
I'm starting to wonder if I just got duped on a survey. It said that I might be able to test some products at home. It asked me for my email address and phone number after asking my gender, my race, region of the country, etc. As soon as I gave my email and phone, I got," Thank you for participating. Unfortunately you do not match the desired profile required to complete this survey."

Now about the email, it said that it wanted the email that was used for Paypal. But that if I didn't have paypal, to enter the most frequently checked email. EEK!

I seriously hope I don't get tons of marketing and other unwanted emails and phone calls. Not to mention that I hope I don't get hacked on paypal!

I decided to be a consultant for Pampered Chef. Has anyone out there been very successful or had some horror stories- or any other stories- that would help me to do better or know more about what I just got myself into?

Off-Topic / Death

A friend of mine had the funeral for her husband today. She and her 4 kids (15 and under) will soon send away their out-of-state relatives. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to help them start their new lives w/o husband/father during the first few weeks after their relatives leave? I'm sure it's going to be lonely at first. It may or may not help that the kids' school is observing a 2 week fall break starting Monday, so they can't resume their regular routine for a couple of weeks even if they wanted to.

My kids have already attempted to share some of their favorite video games with the 11 year old boy- the rest are girls.

I know that everyone mourns differently and on a different time frame, and that the pain they'll suffer is unavoidable. I just don't want them to feel alone and unsupported.

Thanks in advance!

Off-Topic / Ting Cell Phone Service
« on: September 25, 2012, 05:23:20 am »Message ID: 610688
I was going to switch my cell phone company to Republic wireless because they allow you to use wifi to make calls and use data. Plus it was only $20 per month. Then, I saw that someone else gave up on Republic wireless and went with Ting. I checked their site out. It looks really cool. You only get billed for what you use. It's a la carte. I can choose a certain amount of data, voice, and texting that I think I will use. If I use more, they bump me up to the next tier. If I don't use it, they bump me down to the lower tier and credit me on the next bill. So, if I used nothing or it was all on wifi, they'd bill me a mere $6 per month. If I use their service the way I do now at Verizon, I'd pay $12 instead of the $ 45 that I'm paying at Verizon. They'll port my number, too!

My phone arrives this week. So I'm going to try it out. I can let you know how it goes. But, I'd like to know if anyone else here has used Ting yet.

Off-Topic / Tourist Ideas for North Carolina

I'm going to my brother's wedding in Greensboro, North Carolina. I've never been there. Is there anything fun, free, or cheap that you'd recommend for a first (and most likely last- my bro lives in TX) time visitor? I'd love to find out. I'm leaving on Thursday! Thanks!

Off-Topic / Pets passing away
« on: July 03, 2012, 10:15:21 pm »Message ID: 565568
Today, our dog, Tigger, passed away. We chose to bury him in our own back yard rather than have him cremated. Two of my sons and husband dug the grave. Then, we had a funeral and filled in the hole. I think it was therapeutic for my sons to help bury Tigger.

I wonder what other people have done with their pets that passed away at home.
