Debate & Discuss / You didn't build that
« on: July 25, 2012, 11:12:16 am »Message ID: 576702
I am curious how most people view what Obama said in his now well quoted speech.  Here is the particular area that got him into trouble and started the controversy:

"If you've been successful, you didn't get there on your own. You didn't get there on your own. I'm always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.

"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn't get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet."

Now I suspect that confirmation bias will play a large role in how one views what he meant (after the controversy of the quote and the debate about the meaning and not during the speech as those do not have to be the same nor did it even have to be considered during the speech).  Personally I view this as a "you are not special or exceptional and everyone gets a trophy" speech.  I see it as a "you owe the government and society for any achievements you made" speech.  I see it as a "anybody else would have done just as well as you in your shoes" speech.  I do not like the ideology and actions of this President, though, and am biased against him.  How do others view what he meant?  Does anyone actually think the infamous "you didn't build that" really applies to "roads and bridges" as is now being suggested by those that favor his policies (they would have had a better argument by going with 'American system' if you ask me).  The Obama administration has walked it back at least two times that I know of already and I think they made it worse with the walk-backs.  Many have stated that "If you've got a business, you didn't build that" is out of context, but when you add in the entire section it is even worse for him if you ask me.  Anyways I just noticed the topic had not been brought up and wondered how people saw it and to what degree confirmation bias likely plays into this.

Support / Issue with MyThoughtsCount AdultSwim offer
« on: April 20, 2012, 04:43:01 pm »Message ID: 523980
There is a MyThoughtsCount offer that keeps appearing for me that will have you go to adultswim.com and watch a gold episode and then it asks you questions after doing such.  I have tried this offer a few times (mostly because I don't mind watching these adult swim episodes) and have watched sometimes for 30 minutes or longer, watching multiple episodes.  After returning it asks a series of questions and regardless of the answers (as after failing the first few times I tried other answers) it will disqualify you and ask you the "yes to keep trying" question.  There is just something wrong with this offer and I wondered if anyone had success with it or was experiencing the same issues as me?

Debate & Discuss / Sandra Fluke Testimony
« on: March 04, 2012, 05:40:07 pm »Message ID: 500019
Did anyone watch her testimony before congress?  You can check it out on youtube if you haven't.  This had me shaking my head and displaying a baffled look.  I mean is this really what we have come to?  Begging for condoms (I use that word because it puts it in plainer light than to say begging for contraceptives).  Old perverts already begged for *bleep* and got it, and I can only imagine sex dolls and sex toys and free passes to The Bunny Ranch will be next.  People cannot say they want to keep the Government out of their bedrooms and then go and beg them to participate.  I can only guess the intention of her testimony was to make people feel guilty but all I feel is outrage and shame for American society.

There is no point that could be made to sway me to see her point of view -- I am set in this matter, but I am curious as to what others think about it.

Support / Just for my personal information
« on: January 21, 2012, 07:56:59 am »Message ID: 478399
I occasionally have problems with surveys not crediting and the staff here has been exceedingly helpful in making suggestions and reviewing possibilities for the reasons why.  Yesterday I had a MyThoughtsCount fail to credit and so I later attempted to take another and got this message

"Invalid Session

We're sorry, but your session is no longer active. Your session has ended or you were inactive for an extended period of time.

To begin the survey again, please close your browser and click on the link in the email invitation again, or copy and paste the link into your browser's address bar.

We apologize for any inconvenience.
"

I am still getting the same response today as well when I try to take a survey from them and wondered if there was anything to glean from such a message or is it just "one of those things".

Thanks for any info.

Support / Daily Tasks: Decide "Yes" or "No" for Product Manuals: Manufacturer Information
« on: January 21, 2012, 05:44:39 am »Message ID: 478351
Was performing these and two series in a row were of entirely blank listings.  I checked the appropriate box to indicate they were blank and upon reaching the end of the second one I was given this message:

"Sorry - you cannot work on this task

The author of this task has flagged your work as being unsatisfactory. If you believe your work was wrongly flagged please contact us using the "Send Feedback" link in the upper right hand corner."

Of course there was no 'send feedback' link in the right hand corner.

Just wanted you to be aware in case it needed to be fixed.

Offers / Springboard America Offer
« on: January 12, 2012, 09:08:30 am »Message ID: 474491
Has anyone got credit for the Springboard America offer?  I understand some claim that some offers can take awhile to credit, but I have always been credited within 30 minutes if an offer was going to otherwise never.  I did this yesterday and am getting spam email from them but no credit as of yet.

Offers / The days I hate
« on: December 09, 2011, 01:50:25 am »Message ID: 458581
This is an example of a bad day of surveys.  I got no credit for any of these three and they were all done one after the other.  I experience such about once a week and have no clue as to why.  There has to be some sort of underlying reason as when I fail to get credit on one survey, the exact same thing will happen on any additional ones I do that day (well at least within a few hours timespan).  It isn't that I am complaining just to complain it is more that I wish to know what I can do to prevent such a thing.

Offers / venting, so excuse my frustration
« on: November 24, 2011, 04:40:29 pm »Message ID: 450595
I just took some hour long survey for organic food products.  This monster of a survey went on forever and had to throw every conceivable slogan at me to be evaluated on multiple points.  Finally after getting through this most annoying thing and answering the 'classification purposes only' questions, I get the results "Sorry but your answers were not the ones we were looking for".  What the hell I was honest and this is exactly what I should have expected from some liberal agenda such as 'organic' farming on a wide scale.  Give them the truth and they refuse your answers so they can show their polls that only contain the kool aid answers they wanted in the first place.  The should have put arrows by the choices they wanted me to pick and phrases to use within the 'why do you say this' boxes.

vent over, thank you for your patience, now multiply it by infinity, and take it to the depth of forever, and you will still have barely a glimpse of the torment I just had to suffer through.

Off-Topic / Dennis Ritchie Rip()
« on: November 15, 2011, 04:29:31 pm »Message ID: 447122
I just learned that Dennis Ritche passed away on the 12th.  The name probably means nothing to most people but he was one of my heroes.  He was the creator of the C programming language (the language that made me fall in love with programming) and a key co-developer of the Unix operating system.  From my view, this guy was at the heart of it all.

A great description of Ritche is from computer historian Paul E. Ceruzzi : "Ritchie was under the radar. His name was not a household name at all, but . . . if you had a microscope and could look in a computer, you'd see his work everywhere inside.

Off-Topic / Music you liked but forgot about
« on: November 04, 2011, 03:08:07 pm »Message ID: 442555
I heard a song the other day that I hadn't heard in a long time.  It made me start thinking about some songs that I liked but forgot all about.  Some might be one hit wonders and others can just be older songs that don't get much play anymore.  Some you may not like nearly as much anymore besides the nostalgia of them.  Here are a few that I can recall and wonder what some other peoples might be:

Aqualung - Jethro Tull
Pepper - Butthole Surfers
White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane
The Joker - Steve Miller Band
Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf (not sure how I forgot that song)

List some of yours, but try to avoid songs that you no longer like at all (e.g. for me it would be Down Under - Men at work).

Support / 7 consecutive offers completed but not being credited.
« on: September 08, 2011, 04:53:26 pm »Message ID: 414376
I have completed many offers with no problems previously, but I have had about one day per week where none of those completed will give credit, even after getting the success screen on the offer.  Yesterday I completed 5 and none of them credited and so far today 2 and the same results with none crediting.  I have tried all the suggestions indicated and regardless nothing is different from previously so I wonder if anyone else has any suggestions or have noticed anything similarly?

Many thanks for any advice.

Offers / Offers that tell you afterwards that you didn't qualify.
« on: September 05, 2011, 05:47:48 pm »Message ID: 412758
Anyone else get any of the rather lengthily surveys (greater than 20 minutes), answer all the questions and hit the final button to get a message like "Thank you for participating in our survey today. Unfortunately, your profile does not correspond to the one we were looking for in this study?

Very frustrating for such to occur and has happened twice to me so far where it pre screens you then approves you, you answer all of the questions and only to get the above message at the end.
