Debate & Discuss / Re: Gas Prices

Gas prices are high, so now is a good time to spend some of that gas money on a good bike or walking shoes. That's what I plan on doing. I'll drive when necessary, but right now can't afford the gas prices, and in the process of saving money and the ozone, I'l be working on my health.

Off-Topic / Re: Have you ever bought a product from a door-to-door salesman or sales woman?
« on: November 30, 2010, 11:12:48 am »Message ID: 277508
I have about three years ago I bought a Kirby vacuum cleaner.  I love it.  I wish I wouldn't have bought it though.  It cost me way more than it's worth because the local business that sold it to me financed it and then sold the contract to another finance company who in turned increased the finance rate my payments went up to more than I could afford in a month and so did the interest.  Be careful when you do this make sure and read everything.  I also bought some steak and seafood once.  They brought in the box to show what was in it and show how it was packaged.  I asked to have an unopened box and they brought one in and left.  I opened the box to put away the food and what I purchased wasn't in the box and the meat was spoiled.  It smelt terrible.  I drove around til I found the guys I bought it from and they refused to exchange it saying that I could of changed the items in the box with some I previously purchased and that I could of taken some stuff out and hid it.  I got really mad and asked for a number to call that of which they refused to give me.  Be aware of all sorts of scams is all I can say.

Off-Topic / Re: Any suggestions for a good mold & mildew remover ?
« on: November 21, 2010, 10:23:03 am »Message ID: 272339
I haven't found anything that works well either.  A friends suggested thes Soft Scrub scouring pads that already have the soft scrub product in them.  She said one side is rough textured but not too rough so it doesn't scratch the glass and one side is soft for fixtures.  She also suggested using a mixture of vinegar ammonia and water,  ( I'm not sure the ratio only that it is more water and vinegar.) and spraying the walls and doors with keep the mold and mildew and grime from building up.

Off-Topic / Re: Flu Shots
« on: November 21, 2010, 10:04:34 am »Message ID: 272328
Many members of my family get them as soon as the shot is available.  I've only gotten the flu shot once in my whole life and that was three and half years ago when I was pregnant with my youngest.  They made me take it and that was in November when the flu season was just kicking in.  I have not gotten sick since having that shot.  I've had few sore throats, but nothing as far as a head cold or the flu, and I use to catch a cold at least twice a year.  I'm not sure if it was the shot or just luck. I probably won't ever get another, because almost everyone I know that gets the shot ends up with the flu afterwards.

Off-Topic / Re: any easy recipes for my crock-pot ( slow cooker) ?
« on: November 17, 2010, 07:01:10 pm »Message ID: 270896
This is favorite of ours esp on cold days.  I take a bag of frozen precooked chicken chunks or bites throw in a bag of frozen precooked veggies, any kind your kids like, a large potato cut into bite sized pieces, a large family sized can of cream of chicken soup and a can of chicken broth stir cook on low if you start it early in the morning for about 6-8 hours on high if later in the morning for about 4-5 hours.  I stir it a couple of times throughout the day, so the food cooks evenly. add salt and pepper towards the end.  I serve in bowl and top it with a can biscuit, or a homemade one if you have the time to make it.  It's a make shift potpie.  It's yummy.

Another favorite.  I boil a bag of frozen dummpling style noodles and then drain.  In crock pot poor in a carton & a can of chicken broth and a large family size can of cream of chicken soup stir until blended add chopped up left over turkey or chicken.  Your can add some carrots or celery ( chopped) then add dumplings stir and cook on low til ready to serve.  I add pepper at the end and serve with a salad and maybe dinner rolls or crackers.  Freezes well and is a great left over for lunches.
