I wouldn't diss the company but I would also make it a point to look elsewhere while the "freeze" is in place. The best thing you can do is keep checking in and hope that they can hire you on soon. I've never hear of an incident like that before. There is always the possibility of legal action if you feel you were discriminated against for some reason but I doubt it would be an easy route to go and would certainly hurt your chances of getting hired on later by the company. Although it wouldn't hurt to maybe get some free legal advice sometimes there are students in a law program or community programs that offer cheap advice.

Pedestrians and Bicyclists who disregard the rules of the road.
People who drive vehicles that use a lot of gas for no good reason (driving a Hummer in the suburbs)
People who leave a bunch of food on their plate when they leave a restaurant.
I'm sure there are more but these are the ones I could think of for now.

I think there are a lot of thing to be proud of and at the same time the negative things overshadow the good. Laws and regulations put into place to help are now a hindrance and those with wealth and power control those without. We could really achieve so much if we would stop fighting over mundane things and instead prioritize collaboration, team work and reaching our goals. I believe humans can do anything if we only focus our efforts on the right things.

Off-Topic / Re: do you think that the people who make the rules should follow them???

I do think when a boss or teacher adheres to the rules it sets a good example and allows for a consistency so that the rules are well understood. Any boss or teacher that doesn't follow these rules will have a hard time enforcing the rules because the people below them will not respect them.

I don't like A/C much because it gets too cold for me. I prefer a fan most of the time. I really like hot weather in general anyway.

I know it is an electric car manufacturer. The CEO recently revealed some plans for a hyperloop transportation system that will allow people to travel between cities much quicker than an airplane. I would suggest doing a search to learn more. It sounds like a really amazing idea if it could ever actually be put into place.

The dressing is what really makes the salad for me. Sesame Dressing, Papaya seed dressing or Caesar are my favorites.

I think if there is proof rather than hearsay or a hunch it would be a good idea to tell your daughter (or son).

Off-Topic / Re: Driver tipping

I have heard that some employers don't have to pay minimum wage if the employee is expected to make it up in tips. Although I'm sure the rules are different based on employer and local laws. In my opinion I do not like the idea of tipping. For one there are many service jobs that pay poorly and where tips are not allowed (for instance caregiving) and two many people come to expect a certain amount in tips and then it is no longer considered a reward for outstanding services but it is required and many establishments won't let you leave without paying the tip amount. Don't get me wrong I would like to give gratitude to those that are helpful but it shouldn't be required.

Off-Topic / Re: what fruits do you enjoy out of a can.
« on: August 31, 2013, 06:54:43 am »Message ID: 787148
I don't think there are any fruits I would prefer out of a can although if I had to pick to would be peaches but fresh is so much better in my opinion. Many fruits I like better frozen over canned. Frozen cherries, blueberries, Strawberries, blackberries are all better than canned version in my opinion. Lately I have been canning my own foods so that may change technically. =)
