To me, Christmas is a celebration of Christ's birth.  It is a joyful time of the year, spent with family and friends.

MY BEST CHRISTMAS MEMORIES ARE WHEN MY HUSBAND WOULD DRESS UP AS SANTA AND CLIMB UP ON THE ROOF TO GET THE CHILDREN ATTENTION!!

Off-Topic / TRY THIS GAME AT YOUR NEXT ADULT PARTY

•Split the guests into two teams and have them sit on opposite sides of a long table. Have all of the players remove any watches, rings and bracelets, and give one player a quarter. All the players on the side of the table with the quarter now put their hands under the table and pass the quarter among themselves. A player on the opposing side will then call "Hands up" and all the players on the side with the quarter need to put their elbows on the table and make fists with their hands so that the quarter cannot be seen. The opposing side now calls "Hands down" and the players must slap the table with the palms of their hands, and keep their hands that way. The opposing side now has to guess which hand the quarter is under. The guessing side has two chances to find the quarter before they lose. Have the losing side take a drink as a punishment for losing.

Off-Topic / Re: WHY DO PEOPLE DO THE THINGS THEY DO?

Because they have no heart! They have no conscience and they don't know how to be anything but mean.

Another interesting fact about human beings is that they sometimes behave badly just because they don't know any other way to express themselves.  You can effectively spot those individuals and defuse potential problems before they ever get out of the box.

I think they are bogus.  If you really could make that much money then why don't they take the amount of money out of your first check that you make!!

Research the company and always check them out with the Better Business Bureau.
Review the BBB's Work-at-Home Schemes information. Ask for at least three references of people they have worked with. Call each person and ask about their experiences with the company.

Congrats!!!

New mothers need to take special care of their health, along with attending to the needs of the new born. Since they have also gone through a lot during their pregnancy and delivery, physically as well as emotionally, it is important to give ample attention to the health front, so that recovery is quick and you are back to your normal healthy shape in just a matter of some days.

The following can be used for breakfast, brunch .  It is very good for dinner.. with a salad and bread

Farmers Casserole

3 cups frozen hash brown potatoes
3/4 cup shredded Pepper Jack cheese
1 cup cooked ham, diced
1/4 cup chopped green onions
4 eggs, beaten
1 (12 fluid-ounce) can evaporated milk
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon salt

 Split Pea Soup
4 bacon strips, minced

1 medium onion, diced

1 carrot, diced

1 celery rib, diced

1 leek, white and light green part diced

6 cups chicken broth

2 yellow or white potatoes, peeled and diced

1/2 lb. split green or yellow peas, or lentils

1 ham hock

Cheesecloth sachet: bay leaf, whole clove, garlic clove, 5 peppercorns

Salt to taste

Milled pepper

1 C. croutons

Cook bacon in soup pot until crisp. Remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Pour off all but 3 tablespoons drippings. Add onion, carrot, celery and leek, stirring well. Cover pot and cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until onion is tender and translucent, 6 to 8 minutes. Add broth, potatoes, peas and ham. Bring to simmering and cook over medium heat 20 minutes. Add the sachet and simmer until split peas are soft, about 30 minutes. Skim soup as needed.

Discard sachet. Remove ham hock and cool, then cut ham off bone and dice. Strain soup through a sieve, reserving liquid. Puree the solids, returning them to the pot. Add enough of the liquid to achieve a thick consistency. Blend well. Stir in the ham and bacon. Season with salt, pepper. Garnish with croutons.

Yield: 8 servings.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Grease a 2-quart baking dish. Arrange potatoes evenly in the bottom of the dish. Sprinkle with cheese, ham, and green onions.

In a medium bowl, combine eggs, milk, pepper and salt. Pour egg mixture over potato mixture in dish. The dish may be covered and refrigerated at this point for several hours or overnight.

Bake uncovered for 40 to 45 minutes (or 55 to 60 minutes if made ahead and chilled) or until center appears set. Let stand 5 minutes before serving. Makes 6 servings

Off-Topic / Re: New Year Resolutions....?
« on: December 01, 2010, 04:40:29 pm »Message ID: 278494
Try to come here more often so I can cash out more often.

The tradition of the New Year's Resolutions goes all the way back to 153 B.C. Janus, a mythical king of early Rome was placed at the head of the calendar.

With two faces, Janus could look back on past events and forward to the future. Janus became the ancient symbol for resolutions and many Romans looked for forgiveness from their enemies and also exchanged gifts before the beginning of each year.

The New Year has not always begun on January 1, and it doesn't begin on that date everywhere today. It begins on that date only for cultures that use a 365-day solar calendar. January 1 became the beginning of the New Year in 46 B.C., when Julius Caesar developed a calendar that would more accurately reflect the seasons than previous calendars had.

The Romans named the first month of the year after Janus, the god of beginnings and the guardian of doors and entrances. He was always depicted with two faces, one on the front of his head and one on the back. Thus he could look backward and forward at the same time. At midnight on December 31, the Romans imagined Janus looking back at the old year and forward to the new.

The Romans began a tradition of exchanging gifts on New Year's Eve by giving one another branches from sacred trees for good fortune. Later, nuts or coins imprinted with the god Janus became more common New Year's gifts.

Off-Topic / WHAT DOES CHRISTMAS MEAN TO YOU?
« on: December 01, 2010, 04:32:56 pm »Message ID: 278489
Christmas to me means spending time with those you love and who love you. It's not about presents as a lot of kids think. It's about enjoying the time you have on this Earth. But most importantly it's about forgetting those bad feelings you might have about someone and celebrating the birth of Christ, Jesus, with the world no matter who you are.

HONEY-GLAZED BAKED HAM

Whole or half ham, ready to eat

1/8 c. prepared mustard
3 tbsp. honey
Whole cloves
3/4 c. brown sugar

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Place 1 tablespoon flour in turkey size (19" x 23 1/2") oven bag for whole ham or in large size (14"x20") oven bag for half ham. Place bag in 12"x8" baking dish. Insert ham in bag, fat side up. Close bat with twist tie. Pierce bag 6 to 8 times on top. Bake 12 minutes per pound. Remove from oven 30 minutes before it is baked. Carefully slit bag down center and to sides to expose ham. Remove skin, if any, and score fat, diamond shaped, 1/4" deep. Brush entire top of ham with mustard. Insert clove in each diamond. Cover generously with brown sugar. Drizzle with honey. Return to moderate oven, 375 degrees, for final half hour.

Microwave Oven: Follow directions above, using rubber band to close bag. Microwave on medium high (70% power) for 7 to 8 minutes per pound, adding glaze for final 10 minutes. Allow to stand, covered, 15 to 20 minutes before carving.
