Off-Topic / Re: What is your fravorite cookies?
« on: April 17, 2011, 04:46:01 pm »Message ID: 341349
i do not buy cookies, packages or store bakery i think they are all gross. used to love the girl scout samoas/caramel de-lites, but its ridiculous to pay that much for a dozen cookies when my husband will eat half the box in one sitting. so now i make my own. i have a great shortbread cookie recipe then i top it with a homemade caramel sauce mixed with toasted coconut and then drizzle with some melted chocolate. also love chocoalte chip cookies, as long as they are chewy, and lately have been adding coconut flakes and chopped pecans to them and they are sooo good! i also like a christmas cookie that my family calls santa's thumprints, its a butter cookie dough that is rolled in chopped nuts and then the center is pressed in with your thumb and filled with preserves.

in my personal experience, my girl had deifnitely been harder to raise than my son was. now i don't know if thats because i worked when my son was little but have not worked at all since my daughter was born so with her its 24/7 and with him i used to be able to get away everyday. it could also be that with my son, i called the shots what i said was what flew, yet with my daughter it seems like i am always up against my husband on how certain situation should be handled. prime example: my son slept in his own crib, then in his own bed. there were times (when he was sick, or had nightmares) when he would sleep with me but those night were very very rare. my daughter on the other hand, well i had her sleeping in her crib from day one. at about 6weeks old she had a cold and myhusbnd insisted on sleeping with her on his chest. yes, you guessed it, she hasn't left our bed since. not a problem 5 nights a week because my husbadn works graveyard now but on his nights off it would be nice if we didnt have a 3 year old between us

Off-Topic / Re: Going to go see a movie in theaters or wait till on dvd rent/own??
« on: April 17, 2011, 04:34:39 pm »Message ID: 341343
A common fear of mine, I debate on going to the theater to see a movie with my Hubby. Good date yada yada but the movie is a big let down  :( so we end up paying 40 some dollars to sit in the dark while I could have waited and rented it for 5 bucks and had a nice night in cuddling on the couch.

What about you guys?  ???

that just described my date last sunday. got my sister to come watch the kids so no cost for babysitting but $20 for gas,$35 for dinner and $25 at the theater for a movie that had to be one of the biggest let-downs of my life. we never go out to the movies, prefer to wait til they come out on netflix, but we were both quite excited at the prospect of being scared by "insidious" a movie that almost everyone i know had said was the scariest movie ever. when the movie ended and the lights came on i am sure that the look on my husbands face was an exact replica of the one on mine: bored, disappointed, disinterest. the movie industry will not see a dime from me for a loooong tim

Off-Topic / Re: I Hate Other People's Kids
« on: April 17, 2011, 04:30:11 pm »Message ID: 341341
It is so funny that I just saw this thread and just the other day I was looking through another blog about this same thing.

I agree with you. I have three kids but I actually didn't ever want to have children. I'm not very patient and my kids probably drive me nuts a little faster than some other parents. But I LOVE my children LOVE LOVE LOVE them and I can't imagine nor want to imagine my life without them.

But when it comes to other people's kids. They seem more gross, more annoying, and less cute than my own. All my sisters have babies and I babysit constantly and I hate it. I love my nieces and nephews, it's not that I hate them I am just extremely less tolerant with them.

For example, I can change my own kids diapers, no problem. I nearly always gag and vomit when I have to change other children's poopy diapers. I can wipe my kids nose, don't even think twice about it. Wiping another kids nose....makes me gag.

As for kids that are not related at all? Forget it, I actually find some of them to be appalling. If they are good and calm and sweet, then I am okay with them. But a screaming rotten child that has no relation to me?  :BangHead:

I COMPLETELY relate to you. And it's good to know I'm not the only one. I felt horrible for a long time that I felt this way. I'm just not a kid "person". Even though I have children of my own, kids are not my thang lol.

other than the part about neices and nephews(i don't have any)  this entire post could have been written by me. :) i have absolutely no patience for other people's kids. actually left half a cart of groceries at albertsons just yesterday and drove across the street to vons just because there was this one woman with 3 screaming kids looked to be all under the age of 4 and instead of dealing with their annoynig little butts she was busy yelling into a cell phone. after about 5 mintues of what seemed like her following me down every aisle i just walked away from my cart and went to another store.

depends on the veg for me. i love raw carrots, can not stand them when they are cooked. same goes for broccoli, but the opposite for cauliflower. corn i can eat either way, though i like it best baked into corn bread or fried in fritters. only like sweet green peas cooked, and they have to be frozen because the cans one taste like rubber bands to me. i buy frozen edemame all the time and steam them but actually prefer to eat them after they have cooled down a bit

loved that series! so excited to see how well they can make it into a movie, even though i don't really agree with the casting of the main characters.

I think my fav book of all time was "The Watchers" by Dean Koontz.  Anything he has written is great but that book is my fav.
have you read his book "life expectancy" i've never been much of a koontz fan (stephen king, all the way  ;D) but someone had left "life expectancy" and the hotel i worked at a few years ago so i started reading one night when the office was empty. COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!

Life is not hard. Life is what you make it.
i totally agree! my life has been full of trials and tribulations, many obstacles that could very well have forced me off the path i was on, making my life "hard." but i refuse to be derailed. i know what i want from my life, what i want to have and experience and i do my best to make it happen. and when something "hard" steps in front of me i pick my head up and i face it because there is nothing i can't handle. i have my family and my faith and that is all i need

Off-Topic / Re: how do you feel about moving
« on: April 17, 2011, 04:09:45 pm »Message ID: 341331
I L :heart:VE MOVING!!!  i have been looking for a new house for at least 9 months and was so happy last monday when our agent called and said our application was approved for a house so we're moving in 2 weeks! i am so excited! my husband brought me home a huge selection of boxes and i've been packing a box or 2 a day, stuff like wall decor, toys and games that the kids do not play with all the time, and all the top-shelf dishes/special occasion kitchen stuff. i am also doing a major purge, donating clothes, toys and kitchen stuff that is still in good condition but that we just don't use or need anymore. its so awesome because we have 2 weeks til the move in date and i already have half of our stuff packed. so now i can relax and focus on shopping for new stuff for the new house!

thankfully i do not drive but my husband does have a v8 infiniti so we are starting to feel the higher prices. he used to fill up his tank once a week for about $40 and today he filled it up and it cost $63. luckily, we have also greatly reduced the amount of car trips we take and will soon be moving to a new house which will cut about 5miles off his current 16mile commute to work so that should help out too.

« on: March 04, 2011, 10:39:51 pm »Message ID: 322161
i don't even eat chicken wings but when i make them (for parties, etc) i bake them. i line a cookie sheet with foil and then i put a cooling grid on top spray it with cooking spray. i put the chicken wings on the rack and back them. that way they get cooked without getting soggy on the bottom and i dont even have to worry about turning them over halfway through

i love the longevity of dell pcs (had my last one for almost 10yrs) but i also like the sleek styling and many features of my gateway. i prefer laptops to desktops because of the portabilty of them and also, inmy experience, they've lasted much longer than my desktop (only 3yrs)

it could be the opposite and you could be in the situation where he does not want to be involved in the disciplingin at all. i think one of the worst mistakes that parents make is not being on the same page when it comes to parenting. it can be very confusing for a child when mommy wants things doen one way and daddy another. its very important to make a plan and stick to it, and not just for the comfort of the child, but also to add to the stability of the parents' relationship
