Off-Topic / Good things Happening.

It's going to be a good day.  A few months ago I had the opportunity to have a job working from home.  Well things happened and I couldn't take the job then.  A few days ago, I contacted the place and set up an appointment via phone.  Today I am ready to take that job.  I will start in August.  I am so excited.

Off-Topic / feels like fall

:DSince the first day of summer the weather has gotten chilly.  Started this morning in the 50's.  I am wearing a jacket right now.  I was thinking about the last couple months.  April warm enough that it caused the rhubarb and asparagus to bolt.  May was cold.  Rained quite a bit.  June was hot.  In the 90's.  I put in the window a.c.  Now I wish I hadn't.  If this pattern holds steady July should be Misérables with the heat.  Don't get me wrong.  I like this cool weather more than the heat.

The other day I bought a lotto ticket.  As far as I know it wasn't a winner.  I checked with the machine at the store and it wouldn't read it so the lady at the counter said that she could check it on her side.  She did said it wasn't  a winner.  Ok.  But she didn't offer the ticket back to me and it didn't look like she tossed it in the trash.  So I am wondering if it really wasn't a winner.  I know it wasn't the big winner but I might have won 5 bucks or something.  This sort of thing happened to me with a pickle ticket.  I had won a a hundred (can't prove it).  I asked the waitress to check it for me she brought back a dollar.  Now I didn't know better at the time because I didn't play pickle tickets so I didn't question it until I played more often.  To late to get that money back.  So next time I have a ticket checked I will ask for the ticket back.

Her husband feels better, she is still symptomatic.  So far the 3 people I know with covid were able to stay home not hospitalizations.  Thank you for your concerns and warm wishes.

Off-Topic / so now I know
« on: June 17, 2020, 11:33:31 am »Message ID: 1328859
Just found out that my son in law tested positive for covid.  What prompted the doc visit is that he lost his sense of smell.  Other than that he thought it was allergies.   My daughter was also tested but doesn't have the results yet.  She also has symptoms the resemble allergies.  Then she ran a fever for a short time.  Another friend of mine says she has it also.  More flu like symptoms.  So now I know somebody that has the virus.

Stay safe everyone.

Off-Topic / nursing homes.

Since this virus my dad has had to enter a home.  Now that the states are opening back up.  I don't understand why the homes cant reopen to visitors.  I think they can find a safe way to do this.  I mean like the court house takes your temp before entering and the staff is behind plexiglass.  The restaurants are open with limited seating.  They are coming up with crazy plans about opening schools.  By the way I hate those ideas.  I would hate to be a student and have to go to school like that.  Any back to the nursing homes.  I think they can find away to allow safe visits.  Other than talking on a cell phone through the window.  Put masks on go outside keep your distance.  I think it would do my Dad a world of good to see my Mom that way.

I have to say that I didn''t mind the shelter in place to much.  Somethings about it were great.  More time with family.  Didn't get much done as far as housework like I thought I would.  Before this my daughter bought a car for me.  With the shut down the police were easy on not having tags.  I just found out yesterday that our court house is now open.  Bummer now I have to get plates for my car.

Off-Topic / What to do with Peonies
« on: May 29, 2020, 03:16:44 pm »Message ID: 1326294
My plants are finally blooming.  Sure seem to be taking there time.  Last year I made peony jelly.  It tastes like strawberries.  So I thought: If you can make jelly from peony then why not wine?  So I found a good recipe.  Just to get a few things and I will make wine.  Let you know if I like it.

The purple passion fruit. Passiflora incarnata  The apricot of the prairie.  I finally managed to keep 2 alive and looking good.  Now I am trying to decide the right place to plant them.  Also for the rain to stop long enough to get it done.   It sure has been a chili May.

Off-Topic / Daily walk
« on: May 21, 2020, 04:37:34 am »Message ID: 1325537
I drive by a cemetery to take my dog for his run in the country.  Passing the cemetery I notice a couple, ladies,  walking  relatively fast paced.  I didn't notice a car.  So I assumed they weren't visiting.  I thought, now that's an idea.  Way to avoid crowds and still get that morning walk in.  I would have never thought to do that.    But I don't go to cemeteries as a rule.

Off-Topic / Out of the comfort zone.

I stepped outside the other night to see what was happening down the street.  As I was watching that unfold I noticed my neighbor spraying his yard.  Killing what people think are weeds.  Well I said something to him about it.  I was nice.  I think.  I did get my point across.  Told him what it was he was killing and why he probably shouldn't.  One of the claims I made to him is that he will probably need that food when the stores are empty.  That brought up the price of meat and how little there is on the shelves and that you can only get a limited amount.  He continued to kill the clover and dandelion and other things that are edible.  I so much didn't mind him killing his food, but those chemicals blow to my yard.  That is what my concern is.  I don't use chemicals in my yard.  I eat the lambs quarter, and clover.  I like the look of dandelions.
My saying something, surprised me.  I normally don't confront people.  Even though it didn't change what he was doing,  I felt better for talking to him about it.

Off-Topic / Label of origin
« on: May 05, 2020, 07:58:11 am »Message ID: 1323812
They have voted that its discriminating to have the labels.  I think I have the right to know where the food I buy is coming from and how it's raised.  I don't know about this.  Kept me from voting for a candidate years ago, because he was against labeling like this.  I have heard people say to buy American then.  Well if it's not labeled how would I know where it came from.

Does any one still celebrate May basket day?  The first time my husband seen this happen, he thought the town kids were being brats.  He hadn't had the pleasure of the original door bell ditching.  LOL  Happy May Day to all.

The weather is getting nicer.  After about 20 yrs, I finally got the back yard fenced in.  Soon will be able to open the back door and kick the dog and kids out.  Not have to worry about them as much.  The kids in the back yard leaves my front yard open to more planting.  I am looking forward to gardening this year.

I also am taking a sign language class on line.  Hope to get that done this week.

Wish everyone a good day.

Off-Topic / Local t.v. and school
« on: April 14, 2020, 09:21:44 am »Message ID: 1320913
Our local t.v. station is airing live school on a t.v. channel.  Well that is to say certain grades come on at certain times and they have a teacher that goes through the actual teaching.  It's a great idea.  I think it's a bit boring.  I am making the kids at least sit and listen to it.  Who knows maybe in a few weeks they will actually pay attention to it.  My granddaughter has online class that she checks into everyday.  It's the youngest that I want to pay attention.  He is only 2. I still keep missing the preschool classes.
