The bible is just one more, of many, historical texts.  Interesting in it's own way, but not to be taken too literally, I have no doubt falcon knows that as well.

Hel, I see no reason to view it as even close to being anything other than a historically-accurate conglomeration of hearsay.

Why should I be "afraid" of falcon's opinion anyway?  It seems to me that we generally agree, I don't recall any disagreements we've had on this forum.

Generally, we have agreed and I cannot recall any specific disagreement in these forums.

If we ever did disagree, well, falcon probably doesn't know where I live.

As I recall, you're in Deutschland somewhere ... at worst, I'd stand you a round of beers when I visit my relatives in the Netherlands.

I'm not in Deutschland anymore, I returned to Maryland about 2 1/2 years ago.  I retired when I left Germany and have been working on maintenance and improvements on my properties here.  My last stay in Germany was for almost 12 years in Koblenz.  Before then I had 3 assignments there with the Army, Berlin, Karlsruhe and Mannheim, in that order.  I'll be returning to Germany in a little over 2 years when I turn 62 and can start getting social security payments.  The only reason I chose Maryland to return to is because I retired from the Army here and bought my properties in this area.

If you've spent any amount of time in Nederland, you've undoubtedly noticed the lovely ladies that reside there.  I have fond memories of them perched upon their bicycle seats, it's amazing what those daily bike rides can do for a woman's legs and buttocks.  Good luck trying to find an overweight woman in Holland, not at all like it is here where obesity seems to be the new normal female figure.

The last time I was in Amsterdam, driving around the center of town, the women on bicycles were intentionally getting in my way.  I was driving around in my Audi A6 and that's considered to be a relatively big car in Europe, it also didn't gain me much sympathy that I had German plates on the car.  You know the narrow streets there, I clearly didn't belong there and the local ladies let me know it.

It's also the only country I've ever been to where you can walk around in crowded downtown Rotterdam or Amsterdam and smell marijuana because the 2 or 3 people walking in front of you are passing a joint.  That's technically against the law in Holland, but they don't worry much about minor offenses like that there.

A very friendly nation and almost everybody there speaks excellent English, and, yeah, the beer is very good there too.

I found a new word, "alot."  It used to be "a lot," but now I see this artificial word, "alot" in quite a number of postings.

Alaric...arent you afraid Falcon will scold you for using bible?

That's just one more idiotic statement coming from you.  Going back to previous questions about your lack of courage, you go ahead and be afraid about things, I'm not.

Thank you all for fulfilling Prov 20:3

20:3  It is an honor for a man to cease from strife:  but every fool will be meddling.  Kind of similar to Proverbs 19:11.

And who's the fool around here who's meddling?  Everybody knows who that is, except for you, hitch.

Alaric....you are really full of donkey dust with that last post. And then you say good luck at the end of it....LOL!!

Well, the comment of "good luck" is pure irony, sarcasm.  It shouldn't normally be necessary to have to explain that except to a complete idiot, but then, of course, I have to remember that the comment was for you, hitch.  I guess that in the future I need to make comments easier to understand, and it would also probably be easier for you if I used words that didn't have so many letters.

Alaric....anyone that makes a comment "god should serve me" is beyond being selfishness as far as i am concerned.

I am not gonna get into the bit with the cross or the stake either. Its obvious the cross is used as a good luck charm today or are you all that blind?Like i said earlier,if your loved one got killed by a gun would you carry a replica of a gun around your neck?

Jcribb do you celebrate Xmas?Amazing how many turn to the scene when Jesus was a baby in Bethlehem and they talk about 3 wise men <astrologers>who were to report back to King Herod where the child was and when they didnt Herod killed all the 2 yr olds in the land.Such a happy event as we know of xmas.Or would anyone like to know the scripture?Plus 12/25 another pagan day and not anything in bible regarding Jesus saying remember his birth but only his death.

The bible is a 2 edged sword. It explains truth to those with a good heart and gives them discernment and understanding and to those that dislike it or only want it to be what they want it to mean...theyd be better off buying a comic book.

Yeah, god should be serving me.  Although I don't believe that there is some superior being, if there were such an entity then, logically, he/she/it should be serving me, or, more accurately, taking care of me as his/her/it's less than infant foundling.  hitch, I know this will be much too complex for your level of understanding, don't confuse yourself in trying to understand this logical point, you'll only give yourself another headache.

Now you're getting into a shotgun scene where you're thrashing out at everybody, even your own supposed fellow christians.  But of course, you're not really a christian, you're a jehovah's witless, a fanatical branch sect of christianity.  Good luck to you in converting anyone else around here to your moronic, infantile religious beliefs.

You back up Jesus words more and more.

He said in this satanic world if you were gonna follow him to pick up your torture stake. The world hates him and his kingdom was no part of this world. So keep praising your dying world.

Im thankful that i never served in the service and never had to kill for the sake of this modern day Sodom and Gomorrhea.

And Alaric...dont question my bravery...if i had to die for my wife or son it would be an easy decision...i wouldnt worry about getting a coffee cup to show i love them.

I didn't risk my life, I'll freely admit, there was not much risk (as it turned out to be) during my one year of service on the Korean DMZ (demilitarized zone) for a coffee cup, the Korean government just gave me that in gratitude for service in their country.  You're finding some very clumsy and inelegant ways to try to insult me, but it's easy enough to for me to disregard your nonsensical points.

And yes, I do question your bravery, in fact, I would go so far as to suggest that you're probably a coward.  It's not a sufficient display of courage to protect only our own family, you could call that desperation, even selfishness in that you want to keep your wife and children.  Courage and sacrifice are not only for your own family, but also for your neighbors, your community, your country.  But I understand that I'm wasting my time talking to you about that, you've never reached that level of maturity and morality.

To:  alaric99x and falcon9:

I, personally, want to thank you for your service to our country and to any other countries that either or both of you have helped to protect, as well.  Whether Christian or other faith, or no faith, you two are part of a spectacular and brave group of other men and women, who have chosen to go into that field, no matter where sent, and risk your lives (or risked) to protect other people/s and country/ies.  Our nation, and others, wouldn't be as safe as they are, even now, if it weren't for those of you actively engaged in that.

My grandfather was in the Army, served under General Patton; my father was in the Army; my husband and father-in-law are both former Marines, and my oldest son is currently serving in the Navy in his 10th year.  I'm proud of them and what they accomplished and what our son is accomplishing, and like a typical mom, worry to death when he's on deployment in those countries currently at war.

Whenever we see a person in uniform, or if we know it's someone who is in the service, we also go to them and shake their hands and tell them thank you for what they do.  So again, thank you for your commitment and loyalty to America's freedoms and security, as well as to the other countries that need help.  And I'm relieved that you both are safely home on American soil.

Thank you for your laudatory comments.  As it happened during my career, I was never in any serious danger, but I always did my best to take care of my subordinates and, through comments, awards and decorations, was given to understand the appreciation of my superiors.

My salute to the members of your family who also served honorably.  My particular salute to your son, who is out there somewhere on these often ugly, lawless places around our planet.  I sincerely hope he returns to you safely, we're still losing too many of our young men and women, killed or maimed.

Yeah, send them out ahead, like the Soviets did, to clear the minefields so the real fighting men can advance and finish the job of defeating the enemy.

Alaric....WTF are you talking about?I was trying to compare neutrality to defending yourself. Its is you who is patting himself on the back for going thru the unfortunate time of playing cowboys and indians.

As for you saying you understand bible....LOL!!If God had destroyed A&E immediately there would be no human race. You sound so grateful to be alive!!!Yeah right!!!

Nobody's talking about playing any games with cowboys, and please don't insult our noble native Americans who were here long before any of us immigrants arrived and exterminated them and took this continent from them.

You have no realistic understanding, no concept of defense when you choose to defend only yourself and your immediate family.  You claim to have been willing to sacrifice yourself on flight 93 against those heathen moslems, unfortunately, you never had the chance to show how much of a hero you could have been on that flight, or in any other way, but you can talk about what you would have done, if only you had had the chance to show what a hero you are.  What have you ever actually accomplished in your life, except, of course, your heroic loud mouth?

Contrary to you, I never claimed any heroics, I don't need to.  "Patting himself on the back?"  I never did that, I simply served in the Army for many long years.  I served 12 years in Germany helping to defend that country against the Soviets, not one German has ever found it appropriate to give me a word of thanks for my service, at least the Korean government gave me a coffee cup as a token of thanks.  When I see uniformed service members, I make it a point to walk over to them, shake their hands and thank them for their service.  During all my years of service, none of my own people in the USA have ever bothered to express a single word of thanks for my service, only my own fellow soldiers and officers.

And then, no surprise, there are the a-holes like you, who could never be expected to show any gratitude for the service of the many, many thousands of military personnel out there all around the planet trying to protect your worthless lives.  Not having the courage to serve, even for just a few years, you, nevertheless, have the courage to insult people like me by saying we're "playing cowboys and indians."  It's never been a game for us in the military, but you go ahead and stay safely at home in your bedroom, hide your head under the covers if you feel there may be some danger anywhere near you, don't worry, somebody like me will come around to protect you.

And, yes, I do know the bible very well, almost certainly better than you do with your confused mythological, mystical jehovah's witless nonsense.  I've read the bible and many, many other books that have to do with historical, archeological and cultural studies of that part of the world.

If you had to defend yourself or your wife from an attack walking down the street and you killed someone doing so i am sure that would be justified.

Senseless wars do not justify killing innocent people.

If you are familiar with bible then you should be familiar with JWs....they are the only sect to truly honor and obey it.

And why should God serve you?

Why should he serve me?  Simple logic, according to your religion, he's omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient.  He's so superior to me that I'm less than a child compared to him, he's so loving and understanding and forgiving - of course he should be taking care of me.  Of course he should be "serving" me, if he's so superior to me as some of you claim he is.  If he doesn't understand that, then he's not really much of a god, is he?

Ive mentioned this numerous times.....Babylon the Great in Revelation <false empire of religeon or christendom>will soon be destroyed by world government culminating in Armagheddon....so biblically speaking it doesnt matter what other so called xtian organizations think that are not on Gods side.

Remember the high priests and Pharrisees in Jesus day wanted him killed because He exposed their man-made & satanic doctrines.

And i guess you cant discern the comparisons i tried to use between 93,N Viet & defending yourself on a street attack.

Not sure why i even bother explaining bible to you when you are only gonna go back to sq 1.

Sorry for delay...internet connection suks.

I've heard many, many similar boasts from people who have never accomplished anything.  You self-proclaimed heroes who would jump up and take action on flight 93, or defend yourself against criminals on some dismal street, if only you ever had the chance.  Then there are others who've actually served and been prepared to face those kind of dangers, understanding that we might have to give our lives on any day of our service.

You just keep on talking about what a hero you might have been, for many of the rest of us, our record speaks for itself.

Salute returned, (although we enlisted don't normally actually salute other enlisted - nor 'butterbars', if that can be avoided).

I fully understand that, I was also "only," enlisted, a senior NCO.  However, we know, especially when serving with other armies, that we always return a salute once it has been rendered.

Thank you for returning that courtesy.

Understand, that's why it was our job to school them.  My captains, majors, LTCs, colonels and general officers very, very rarely failed to show proper respect and appreciation for my service.  These were, or course, the grown up officers.

You're welcome, (the 'butterbar' mention was made because so many 'lewts' never came to realize that NCOs run things and let officers believe they do).

So when you take this oath is your hand on the bible....like in a courtroom?

Also if you are familiar what Jesus said and did after Peter tried to defend him that should be your answer for a Xtian serving his country. He should remain neutral.

Also, what god do you serve if any?

No hand on any bible, we raise our right hand and swear (or affirm) to the officer rendering us the words of the oath.  We're talking about the United States Uniformed Services here, not some kind of church service or bible study group.  News for you, the Unuted States Military is non-denominational.

I actually am familiar with the bible, but I'm not familiar with your particular sect, I never had, and never will have, enough interest in your particular religious beliefs.  I assume from your answer that your religion doesn't serve in the military?

I don't serve any god or gods, if there really were a god, then he or she should be serving me.
