I wished that'd help but my dad's a very obdurate man.

He's the one that got my family here to the states so he's the one who makes the call.

And yes, they argue about me.

But all i'm doing is going to school and be active in extracurriculars.

It's not like I'm being a bad kid.

I would have to say that my dream is to simply have my own family someday and live happily.  ;D

Hopefully by then i would've gotten rid of my fear of sharp objects, fire, and boiling liquids.  :crybaby2:

This meaning, hopefully by then, I can cook.   :dontknow:

Off-Topic / Swim Tournament
« on: April 27, 2012, 08:03:02 pm »Message ID: 527726
I come from a school that has a pretty bad reputation.

But this past decade the school has been changing in a good way.

However, in my school district, my school is the one that's most looked down upon
because we don't have as much money as the other schools do nor do we have
the new equipments or programs they have.

Today my school district had our Swim tournament.

Like i said before. My school splits into Ducklings and Sharks not JV and Varsity.

Ducklings don't compete so all Sharks compete.

Well, it was pretty intimidating watching all the other schools swim 50yds in their 20-30seconds
while I was swimming 50 seconds.

It's just terrible. -____-

Off-Topic / Swimming as a Duckling
« on: April 26, 2012, 07:19:45 am »Message ID: 526766

At my school there is no JV or Varsity swim team. The team is just one big group.
The more experienced swimmers go in as Sharks, while the not so experienced or
still learning how to swim swimmers go in as Ducklings.

For me, i went in as a duckling. It was good and fun, but eventually they put me in the shark lanes
because they felt I was ready. Thing is,

I have a huge problem with breathing. I don't know how to breathe and coordinate my strokes
and breaths. On tops of that, I'm super duper slow. -____-

I've participated 3 times during the entire season, It's pretty difficult.

One thing for sure, :) On the Brightside,

I can dive. :)  ;)

Off-Topic / More Hmong Stuff
« on: April 25, 2012, 10:44:51 pm »Message ID: 526675

:) Hmong. Both an ethnicity as well as a language. Hmong is an asian ethnicity.
Hmong people lived in Thailand, Laos, China, pretty much the Southeast asian countries before
the Vietnam War. When the war broke out, many Hmong people ran from their villages because they were being killed.

Many hmong people became refugees.

After that, Hmong people went all over the world. Many came to the United States.

Others went to European countries. One i know of is France.

My family came to the US.

My dad served in the army as one of the many  Hmong soldiers who helped American soldiers through the
forests of Thailand and Laos.

Just a little info.

Oh, my name is Stephanie. But because my parents couldn't pronounce it at the time,
they called me, Pav nim. This is not an actual hmong name, but it's hmong apparently. THere's no
meaning. It just sounds like Phanie from my name.

To pronounce Pav nim in hmong, it'd sound like Bonnie.

It'd be pronounced more like, with a SOFT B mixed with a P sound. "PBa-nnie"

Debate & Discuss / Do you know what Hmong is?

Do you know what Hmong is? Have you ever seen Grand Torino with Clint Eastwood?

Well, the characters are Hmong. Like Clint in the movie, most people who've never heard of it
would pronounce this alien word "Hmong" as "Ha-mong." Well, it's just, "hmong"

That's of no help i realize. LOL But the trick is to pronounce "mong" but have a soft "h" sound in between.

It's almost like, "m-oh-ng" Its like when you react with a huuuuuh. But replace the u with an o.

:) Hmong is a tonal language and is not easy to read.
