Offers / Is There Going to be Good Video Opportunities Ever Again?
« on: May 03, 2020, 08:05:43 am »Message ID: 1323472
Okay, let me preface this with the fact I am going to vent.  Although I am earning at an okay rate, it is a fact, in my opinion, that Fusion is getting more and more boring. Also in my opinion, I feel this was happening before Covid and the economic problems.  I guess I am not giving up on Fusion at this point, but it could be a factor in the future if this site remains so repetitive and lacking creativity.

Off-Topic / Thank-You, Governor Whitmer
« on: May 03, 2020, 07:54:04 am »Message ID: 1323471
My governor, Michigan's Gretchen Whitmer, declined Trump's invitation/advice to negotiate with the so-called protesters who were dressed frequently in camo and carrying guns, and pushing their way into our Capitol Building with those guns, no masks, and completely ignoring social distancing.  Anyone who truly simply wants to protest a state's emergency declarations needs to not bring guns, openly carry, and at least watch what they are doing as far as social distancing for the good of others who do believe this is a serious pandemic.  There are more of us than the ones who are these kind of "terrorists."

Off-Topic / May 4, 1970

On May 4, 1970, National Guardsmen fired a barrage of tear gas into a crowd of demonstrators on the campus of Kent State University. On May 2, then-Gov. Jim Rhodes who was running for Senate, called the students "the worst type of people that we harbor in America." (Sound like anyone you know?) After the tear gas and the fact that the students did not disperse but began throwing rocks, the National Guard started firing and between 61 and 67 shots were fired. Four students were killed, eight others were injured, including one of whom who was permanently paralyzed.

I was in college at the time at another university.  I am somewhat familiar with this era and the protests and war itself.  It was a very divided time.  I had one foot in each camp.  I wanted to support my government and troops but was very uncertain we should be in Vietnam doing some of the things we were doing. An echo of present times?  Perhaps!

Off-Topic / Eating More of a Particular Food or Type of Food?
« on: May 02, 2020, 09:52:25 am »Message ID: 1323355
I have to be so careful when I go to the grocery store now.  I love sweets and since we are all at home so much I have a tendency to eat them as a "go-to'!  I guess I am doing that out of boredom and comfort.  If they are in the house, I am eating them down quickly. At any rate, I have to limit buying them at the store.  It is the only discipline I have right now in order to not eat them like "a pig wallowing in mud!"

Off-Topic / Ladies: Do you Wear Wigs Now or in the Past?
« on: May 02, 2020, 09:38:17 am »Message ID: 1323348
So I have a friend who just bought a wig from a TV shopping channel because she thinks she won't be getting to her hairdresser any time soon.  I thought this might be a good idea and I have heard they are much different now than in the past.  In the past, I wore one off and on.  I found it good for short-term wear but a bit hot and uncomfortable for more than a few hours.  My friend claims they are entirely improved now.  What is your experience?

Off-Topic / Would You Fly on a Plane Right Now?
« on: May 01, 2020, 05:00:50 am »Message ID: 1323051
An old friend of mine who I only talk to occasionally just told me they are taking a plane trip across the company in several weeks (May) and then traveling around in a rental car and then a rented motorcycle. They intend to visit several states. I was really rather shocked and told them I was surprised they would be considering this now and maybe put it off until Fall.  However, this person is rather hardheaded and I didn't get far and didn't try to reason with them much for this very reason. I told them they need to check what is going on as far as regulations in the specific states and virus data before they go, but I am not convinced they will do it.

So I am hoping to get some recommendations about what to watch on this streaming service. I am not a Western fan nor particularly too much of a war film fan although I have heard 1917 is very good.  At any rate, any recommendations?

Off-Topic / AGAPE'
« on: April 04, 2020, 11:21:49 am »Message ID: 1319615
I love the commercial which talks about the Greeks having multiple words for love with the most meaningful being AGAPE', meaning "showing love."  To me, that means not just talking it, but behaving it.  Too bad the world doesn't remember that much more often.  Right now is a picture of how that might look.  However, I still read and hear about certain individuals and groups who seem to have no clue what that looks like and keep a negative undercurrent of dissonance going.  And it is not just a political thing, a right or left thing, but often an entitled, ignorant, or controlling thing.

Off-Topic / Mothers and Daughters
« on: April 04, 2020, 10:56:57 am »Message ID: 1319610
Awhile back and just now on TV heard that the bond between mothers and daughters is the strongest intergenerational bond that there is.  It went on to say that they have similar emotions because they have similar transmission patterns in the brain.
I know!  This idea is rather esoteric and deep, but I was wondering as part of a mother/daughter relationship or even as a guy looking into such a relationship, do you think this is the strongest bond?  Why?  What have you seen which supports this?  Or do you disagree and why?

Off-Topic / Ever Watched Extreme Cheapskates?
« on: April 04, 2020, 07:37:34 am »Message ID: 1319582
I watched one or two episodes of this show several years ago but none since.  However, since in the house with this virus, I am trying out new shows I either haven't watched or watched very little a while ago! Some of the people on this show are really extreme and I have to wonder how they live in some of the ways they do no matter how frugal!

So my question is: What, if any, do you do to pinch a penny?  How much do you estimate you save by doing what you do?

Off-Topic / 2019 Taxes
« on: April 03, 2020, 06:32:27 am »Message ID: 1319413
Did you already file your 2019 taxes before this mess hit or do you still have to?  Me, I had an appointment originally for early April because I have paperwork that is not sent to me until late March. (I always thought companies HAD to sent these out earlier than this but I guess not.)  Anyway, then my tax preparer called me and asked do I want to delay until later.  I said let's set appointment for April 27!  Today I am going to call and set it for end of May/early June!

Off-Topic / Obesity and the Coronavirus
« on: April 03, 2020, 06:23:13 am »Message ID: 1319412
Well, another underlying condition that can affect getting the coronavirus and it being severe is obesity. If you are stuck at home right now and have a tendency to be overweight, please try to watch what you eat and how much and often you eat.  I know food is a comfort to many, but obesity in the U.S. has become a huge issue.  I, too, am trying to not eat out of boredom.  I have been getting up and exercising some of the time, either on my treadmill, up and down the stairs a certain number of times, or today, which is sunny and near 60, outside for a few minutes.  That sun feels so good!  Better than a donut!!! LOL!

Have you ever listened to a podcast?  Are you familiar with them?  Which are your favorites?  I read that podcast usage is down because people are working from home.  I actually thought more people might be listening to them.  Guess i was wrong!

Has anyone on the forum had experience with over the counter diet aids?  Was anything effective?  Did you find any of these diet aids had side effects? What did you like or not like?
