Reminds me there was a time when we didnt know asbestos was dangerous.

Now we have Zantac,Shower to Shower and were told Ground Zero air was ok.

Do you think this planet might need a loving Creator that not only could solve these problems but make sure they never started in the first place?

Many religeons teach U die and go to heaven. Why would a loving God leave this planet a disaster and reward someone to go to heaven?

Take heart...the bible says God will bring to ruin those ruining the earth.

I believe God helps those who help themselves and did not help to create this planet, if that is your belief, for us to ignore and not care for it!  The fact that we are largely ignoring the effects of our actions and ever-increasing population is going to have dire effects for our children and grandchildren and beyond!

How often do you think the biggest spender wins the election here in the U.S?  Would you be surprised to find out it's 88.5% of the time in the House and 82.9% of the time in the Senate?

This is why big interest groups, or PACS, and Citizens United must be a thing of the past.  It is time for limits on political campaign spending and for donations be limited to what is called "grassroots" donations.  Yes, in 2008, a conservative advocacy group, Citizens United, challenged the Federal Election Commission (FEC) rules in the Supreme Court that banned attack ads funded by outside groups shortly before an election. In a 5-4 decision, the good ole Supreme Court overturned key campaign finance rules and cases and it has been a nasty free-for-all ever since.  It is time to get the money from big corporations and wealthy interest groups out of politics to the extent that Citizens United has let them in!!!
I can see where spending the most money can have an advantage.

But in the sports world how many times have teams spent a lot of money on players that have been busts?

Happens quite a bit.

There is a sports saying.Thats why they play the games. You dont win on paper.

I don't think we are looking at this in the same way.  I am talking the political world, not the sports world.  Two very different things.  Citizens United and other big PACS control the message very often because of the money they pump into elections rather than there being a limit to what a candidate can spend and allowing the average citizen to be competitive.
Janice i dont know much about it.

i just agreed that having more money could work as an advantage but not a guarantee thats why i brought up sports world.

Also consider other variables with candidates.Hometown, who is better looking,religeon.....get the point?

Seems what UR saying CU and PACs try to make a fair fight?

Again politics isnt my forte.I just tried to use common sense and logic here.

Actually, what I am saying is that the introduction of BIG money by corporations and the very wealthy tend to influence elections much more than they should and undermine grassroots efforts.  The average guy cannot compete with the very wealthy.

Off-Topic / Laundry Can Be an Environmental Problem

I just learned that polyester, nylon, and acrylic, common materials used in clothing, are some of the main sources of plastics pollution.  Of the estimated 1.5 million tons of microplastics contaminating oceans each year, about 35 percent originate in synthetic clothes.
Laundry is one of the main culprits.  You can use a microplastic-catching laundry bag like Guppyfriend or Filtrol, a microplastic filter attachment for your washing machine.  Wash clothes on cold, as research indicates that shorter, cooler washes reduce microplastics' release by a third.
I never realized any of this but I am going to look up the products named and maybe buy them and be aware of the shorter, cooler washes, which I happen to be pretty good at anyway.

Off-Topic / Food Bowl Basics
« on: November 03, 2020, 08:54:36 am »Message ID: 1343985
There are so many bowls in the freezer section any more. Green Giant, Healthy choice, Cedar Lane, Amy's etc. Here are some tips on these fairly quick and healthy options.

1. Veg Out: The healthiest diets have about 10 (half cup) servings of fruits and vegetables a day.  (I surely don't have this much.  Do you?) So slice up a veggie or toss a salad while the microwave is doing its thing.

2. Don't overcook.  Start with the low end of the cook time.  Once broccoli gets mushy, there's no going back.

3. Be patient.  If the instructions say to let your microwaved bowl sit for a minute before digging in, do it.  It helps hot spots dissipate and your food finish cooking.  I am guilty of not letting it sit much!

4. Mix it up!  Don't see the sauce.  Check the bottom.

5. Make it yours.  If your bowl needs a little something, try ground pepper, a few drops of hot sauce, a squeeze of fresh lemon, or a dollop of plain Greek yogurt.  Really, it's about whatever you like. I've tried the yogurt and the lemon.  Not bad!!!

Off-Topic / How Does Industrial Agriculture Harm the Planet?
« on: November 03, 2020, 08:40:44 am »Message ID: 1343980
The answer is to this question: In many ways!  For example, industrial animal production dumps fecal waste into the environment in enormous amounts.  Lately, I read a figure that 2,500 dairy cows produce as much waste as a city of 400,000 people.
A city treats its waste before sending it back into the water supplies.  Concentrated animal feeding operations don't have to treat their waste, which may eventually end up in our waterways.
So the question is:  Why aren't they doing this?  Why aren't governments demanding this?  Even better question, now that you know, are you going to tell your legislator and demand it?  It is past time to care for our environment.  We should be very upset with certain industries and companies.

Off-Topic / Have a Different Kind of Snack
« on: November 03, 2020, 08:28:01 am »Message ID: 1343979
I'm talking exercise, not food.  According to Nutrition Action newsletter, when 11 adults with overweight or obesity spent 9 hours taking an hourly stair-climbing "snack:---which meant briskly climbing 55 steps, so don't get negative---their blood insulin levels were 17 percent lower than when they spent 9 hours sitting.  Each "snack" only took 20 to 60 seconds.

Remember---high insulin levels are a risk factor for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.  So maybe try an exercise "snack?"

Off-Topic / Re: Covid19 yes Flu?, No! Lowest flu numbers yet!
« on: November 03, 2020, 08:00:07 am »Message ID: 1343973
On Friday, the U.S. has surpassed more than 9 million coronavirus cases-and broke an unfortunate record with 99,321 new Covid-19 cases reported.  That is the highest single day number of cases for any country.

From Alaska to Maine, at least 31 states reported at least one record high day of new cases in the past month, according to data from John Hopkins University.  Fifteen reported one day tallies of Covid 19 deaths.

Now there's fear hospitals could become overwhelmed as the number of coronavirus cases continues to climb.

I agree with you Nancy5, but Countrygirl12 is already calling people demons, when it is the other way around, If Trump loose it is them that will be burning America.  If Biden win we can get a hold of this Virus and get the country back together and stop dividing the country we all are American and should all be treated the same.

Boy, do I agree with you!  CG is typical of the "cult" which follows Trump and is clueless about a number of things, including the pandemic. I already heard a couple being interviewed in FL who said they are voting for Trump because of his response to the pandemic.  What response?  It collapsed as soon as he decided his televised task force meetings weren't going his way and he didn't want to put doctors and scientists on because they didn't support his uneducated beliefs. I could go on and on about this subject as I have a healthcare education and background, but frankly, I am tired of debating what should be common sense with the "cult!"

I certainly wish some people who have never taken or passed a science class, for that matter, would quit spreading misinformation about covid and get in gear on protective and preventative measures.  This is why the numbers are going up and we are now near 231,000 dead in less than 9 full months. Stop with the ignorance, selfishness, and entitlement.  You are the ones contributing to the spread and deaths and the looming shutdowns of schools and businesses in many states.  Freedom is not freedom if you or the ones you care about die or are left with serious side effects.

There is no Chick-Fil-A where I live. I have never had it! There is one where my youngest daughter lives which is about 45 minutes away.  We have driven by Chick-Fil-A and would stop but the lines are always so long.  My daughter says it is usually that way, and although it is good, it isn't THAT good!  The wait usually looks like about 20-30 minutes. Not for what I consider "fast" food!

I am one of you that wish DST would just disappear and we would leave the time alone.  I used to really dislike it when I worked.  Now retired, I don't feel it as much but still would prefer to just let time naturally evolve.

You see Trump’s arrogance, I see Trump’s confidence. You see Trump’s nationalism, I see Trump’s patriotism. You hear Trump’s unsophisticated words, I hear Trump’s honesty. You see Trump’s racism, I see Trump’s words being misconstrued and twisted by the media daily to fit their narrative. You see Trump as a Republican, I see Trump as a Patriot. You see Trump as a dictator, I see Trump as a leader. You see Trump as an Authoritarian, I see Trump as the only one willing to fight for our freedoms. You see Trump as childish, I see Trump as a fighter, unwilling to cave in to the lies. You see Trump as an unpolished politician, I see Trump as a breath of fresh air. You think Trump hates immigrants, I know Trump is married to an immigrant. You see Trump putting an end to immigration in America, I see Trump welcoming immigrants to America LEGALLY. You see Trump’s cages at the border, I see Obama’s cages at the border. You see Trump with a struggling economy, I see Trump with an amazing economy until the Democrats shut it down. You see the violence in the streets and call it “Trump’s America”, I see the violence in the streets of Democratic run cities who are refusing Trump’s help and call it “Liberal America.” You want someone more Presidential, I’m happy we have someone who finally doesn’t just talk the talk but actually walks the walk. You and I? We see things very differently.

You think this makes sense I suppose; I think this shows your lack of insight and common sense.  Also, you don't seem to care about the character, ethics, and understanding of what a democracy is by a president.

Everyone needs to remember that this virus has not been around even a year yet.  The sacrifices that the people of this country made during the World Wars and the Great Depression are monumental compared to what we are giving up.  If everyone would follow the advice of people in the know, such as doctors and scientists, we would be in a much better position. Dur to the leadership and politicalization of everything, other countries are looking at us as though we are idiots.
