Support / PII Required?
« on: October 14, 2016, 07:51:39 am »Message ID: 1098819
Every now and then, I see a survey in the list of those available with a designation "PII required." I should probably know, but cannot figure it out.  I know that pi is 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399 and so forth... (Okay I only knew it to 3.1415 and had to look up the rest, please don't hold that against me). But what is pii?

Suggestions / Sort offers/videos by reward
« on: October 02, 2016, 08:47:38 am »Message ID: 1096471
It would be nice if we were able to resort the order that offers or videos are presented by the amount of their reward.  I often scroll through the list trying to find one or two videos in particular which are usually reliable for me.  But they don't always fall in the same place on the list or other videos randomly drop in or out of the list from one day to the next.  We already have the ability to turn 1/2 cent videos off and on.  Is it possible to implement the ability to re-order the videos?

Offers / GutCheck
« on: September 07, 2016, 07:47:43 am »Message ID: 1091356
I found a survey on FC yesterday that said it would pay out $5.00.  I don't remember the survey topic or time estimate, but I'm pretty sure it was listed as under 30 minutes.  So I tried it out and it ended up sending me to a modified focus group where I could review responses by other survey takers after giving my own response.  The survey was about a new food product and was presented by GutCheck.

It was a very fun survey -- not long and boring like some tend to be.  I got done and was told my incentive would be credited in 4-6 weeks from the panel company I used to find their survey link.  I was HOPING for instant credit to go toward my September payout, but instead will have to wait for October or November.  Oh well.  It will be a nice surprise when that head start drops in sometime in that future time frame!  One third of the $15 non-bonus earnings already accounted for!

So in the meanwhile, I guess I'll just have to keep trying other surveys for more immediate payouts!

FusionCash / Captcha Tips
« on: September 01, 2016, 02:07:04 pm »Message ID: 1089880
I have seen several general FC tips in these forums and some specific to the Captcha required at the end of the daily email and PTC.  Some of the tips are news to me, others I was already aware of when reported by other users here in the forum.

This is another one of those tips, which I don't think I have seen listed here (but I may be late to the party and proven wrong).  I have known about it for a while and I expect many others have discovered it also, but for those who have not: when completing the capcha for the daily PTC or email, they will still give you credit for minor misspellings in the answer -- I guess when it is close enough, the computer allows for a typo. (What better way to prove that you are an actual human and not a bot, than by making a common keyboard typo?!)

Two examples that I have recently verified: "fiive books" and "roler coaster" were both accepted when I typed them in that way.

Off-Topic / Suicide
« on: August 14, 2016, 07:20:42 pm »Message ID: 1086167
"What needs to be said over and over again about suicide? ...suicide is a disease; that it takes people out of life against their will; that it is the emotional equivalent of a stroke, heart attack, or cancer; that people who fall victim to this disease, almost invariably, are very sensitive persons who end up for a myriad of reasons being too bruised to be touched; that those of us left behind should not spend a lot of time second-guessing, wondering whether we failed in some way; and, finally, that given God's mercy, the particular anatomy of suicide, and the sensitive souls of those who fall prey to it, we should not be unduly anxious about the eternal salvation of those who fall prey to it."
-- Margaret Atwood

This was printed on the back of a memorial printout for my wife's cousin who took his own life one week ago.

Offers / Advertising Study
« on: August 11, 2016, 06:56:07 am »Message ID: 1085433
I hope this is not a sign of things to come... I just did an Advertising Study for a 35¢ payout. I didn't know it before I clicked on the link, but that this was the same survey format that many have expressed positive reactions to in the past -- the one where you watch several TV commercials and then rate your reaction to various questions using the numbered slider bar.  It is a survey that you almost never get DQed and is very easy to complete for a payout -- but the payout always was 75¢ before -- not 35¢.

Off-Topic / Vacation
« on: August 09, 2016, 02:08:08 pm »Message ID: 1085125
I was blessed to go on a family vacation this summer and it was the perfect blend of different vacation destinations.  My 9 year old daughter started competition dance last year.  Every three years her studio goes to national competitions in Ocean City, MD.  So we spent a week there right on the ocean.  Our 25 year old daughter who danced for about ten years until 2009 flew up from Florida to spend that week with us and reminisce about her days up on stage there. (When we last went, the now 9 year old was only 6 months old and stayed with her grandparents).  During that week I saw (and filmed) some beautiful sunrises, some amazing lightning storms, and a gorgeous full rainbow = all three over the ocean waves.  We saw dolphins way off in the distance on one morning.  We also briefly toured Assateague Island on the way out where the wild horses have lived for quite a while.

After our week there and seeing big sis off on her flight back to Florida, the rest of us went to Allentown, PA and spent 3 days at Dorney Park.  I know I am biased and spoiled to have the best amusement park on earth in my Ohio town, but it was a nice change of pace to see some different rollercoasters (and revisit an old favorite ride).  We have season passes with a meal plan from Cedar Point and those allowed us free entry into Dorney Park since it is a sister park under the same overall company.  Dorney is a good bit smaller than Cedar Point and has a HUGE steep hill right in the middle of the park separating some of the good rides and shops.  Cedar Point is large, but very flat so it is much easier to walk - something I won't take for granted anymore.  Several years ago one of my old favorite rides at Cedar Point -- Demon Drop was removed from CP to make room for something else.  It was shipped and reassembled in Dorney Park, so I had a nice reunion with an old friend!  I also got to show my 9 year old how you can simulate levitating a coin on that ride!  I also lost my car keys on the Hydra coaster.  Luckily we had walked over from the hotel and my wife had her set of keys there.  It took 36 hours, but I finally got my keys back from lost and found.

We then left Allentown, made a pitstop in Hershey to tour the Chocolate World facility, and drove on to our final destination of the trip in Gettysburg, PA.  Back in 2004 my "girlfriend" and I drove through Gettysburg on our way home from a dance competition in Ocean City.  We didn't stop, but we both commented on the scenery just off of the main highway.  When I proposed to her later that fall and we began discussing wedding and honeymoon plans we both independently thought of Gettysburg as a destination.  We spent four days there as part of our honeymoon and were back again for a single day a few years ago while just passing through.  We spent three days there on this trip and ate at a few of the nice places downtown where we enjoyed romantic honeymoon dinners years ago = Dobbin House and Farnsworh House.  We did a ghost walk and a car tour of the battlefield and monuments and our daughter took part in an hour long exercise for kids where they learned what it was like to be a civil war soldier with the uniforms, rifles, and gear and they did some marching and shooting maneuvers.  The scenery there (especially the view down from Little Round Top) is so serene and peaceful -- it is hard to imagine the chaos and horror that soldiers from both sides faced 150+ years ago on the very same spots.

We were very lucky to get the time off to do this as a family.  I think this was the ultimate vacation trifecta: ocean, amusement park, and historical site of great significance - all in one trip.  (And I was able to use Fusion Cash and a few other sites' earnings to help pay for a few of the expenses!)

Offers / Excellent survey notice!
« on: August 08, 2016, 09:11:57 am »Message ID: 1084766
I clicked on an FC survey link just now and was told: "There are currently too many survey takers in progress, please try again later."

I much prefer this notice right up front to starting a survey and being told upon completion that the quota is full.

Off-Topic / Vacation Bible School
« on: July 11, 2016, 08:15:39 am »Message ID: 1079074
Okay, so my wife roped me into assisting with a Vacation Bible School that I wasn't tremendously enthusiastic about doing.  I just wasn't enthusiastic about the time commitment with it being a few hours each evening for a full week (which also turns out to be a very busy work week for me).  The funny part is that after this past weekend (final set up and our first sessions just last night) my WIFE admitted that she wasn't expecting this much extra effort to be put in when it was pitched to her.  Set up was very time consuming and our specific role in the process involves a LOT of extra prop purchasing and design that we weren't expecting.  Just last night at 11:30 p.m., I found myself leaving WalMart with a $60 receipt for the items that we MISSED the first time around that we just discovered upon a closer look that we will need later this week.

My wife and I are partners in the bible story sessions where we try to re-create some of the bible stories that match the common theme for the particular day.  We have a pre-written script to follow, and my role last night was to pretend that the lights in our room weren't working so I had to pretend to try to track down the problem while coming back with different lighting solutions (first little battery operated flicker candles, then mini flashlights, etc.)  So MOST of my time was spent outside of the room away from the kids, just listening from the hallway for my cues to enter with my lights.

So my wife did most of the work, but after one of the groups finished their turn in our room, a girl with Down Syndrome of about 10 years old came over to me (not my wife who shared with them for 20 minutes, but me who shared three lines with them and "fixed" the lights)- grabbed me around the waist and said "Thank you."

She reminded me of what the time effort and money is REALLY for.  This is going to become my next entry in my No Coincidences with God blog.

Off-Topic / Soda Tax
« on: June 23, 2016, 08:20:34 am »Message ID: 1074794
So I see that the city of Philadelphia has passed a new tax on pop/soda to go into effect next January, I think.  1.5 cents per ounce, so it would add 18¢ for a 12 ounce can.  How will they collect that tax from vending machines around the city? Will they just increase the price by a 25¢ quarter -- pull the tax money and then give an extra 7¢ to the vendor?

What about high school sporting events where the concessions are usually a fund raiser for the athletic department or the marching band?  They generally sell 12 or 20 ounce cups to people using fountain drink dispenser machines and the money charged for drinks is generally just intermixed with the money charged for pizza or fries or hot cocoa, etc.  -- do they now have to jack up their prices and keep track of how many cups they sell to know how much tax must be paid?

What a nightmare!

Off-Topic / Brilliance at its Best

I just read an article in the local paper about a 19 year old kid who blew up/off his hand today:

Erie County Sheriff said the teen suffered “very, very extensive injuries to his hand.”  The teen was in the passenger seat of a vehicle being driven by a 16-year-old Monroeville boy. Their friend was traveling behind them on Ohio 2 near Berlin Road when the incident occurred. As a prank, the teen reportedly loaded a mortar shell into a tube and attempted to fire it at the friend traveling behind them. Deputies said the teen loaded the mortar backwards, and it exploded in his hand.

I don't really want to speak ill of the poor guy who has probably lost his hand, but I gotta wonder what level of intelligence this kid has.  Even if he loaded the explosive into the tube "the right way" (as if there IS a right way to shoot off fireworks from one moving car toward another moving car on a busy highway) what the hell kind of "prank" is this and how can it be funny?  The kid is LUCKY that he didn't kill SOMEONE ELSE.  All the other motorists are lucky that he only permanently maimed himself. :bad:

Off-Topic / Cicadas in eastern Ohio
« on: June 13, 2016, 09:19:04 am »Message ID: 1073123
Anyone out there being affected by the cicadas in Ohio and West Virginia right now (or anywhere else for that matter)?  I am in northern Ohio on the lake and we have nothing going on here, but just a few hours southeast it is crazy!  I was in Steubenville over the weekend doing some house and yard cleaning for my mom and those buggers were out in full force - at times the noise was deafening.  And they are not at all shy about dive bombing you as you walk by!  I took a few cell phone videos to capture the sound to share with my family who didn't make the trip with me.

I remember them as a kid, but I don't recall them being this loud!  Maybe I just don't have the memory I used to!  I commented to some friends on Facebook, that from a distance, they sound very much like the starship Enterprise firing its phaser banks!

Off-Topic / Stanley Cup Finals
« on: June 09, 2016, 07:30:06 am »Message ID: 1072322
I haven't read much/any buzz about the NHL Stanley Cup Finals here, so I decided to stir the pot on what could be the final day of the season.  Any Penguin or Shark fans out there in FusionCash?  Big time Penguins fan here hoping they can close things out tonight at home.

Interesting trivia I heard the other day that I hadn't really thought about, but immediately realized it was true once I heard it.  The city of Pittsburgh has had quite a few professional sports championships over the years, but they have not WON a championship game IN the city of Pittsburgh since Bill Mazeroski hit that famous game seven 9th inning home run to beat the Yankees in 1960.

All of the Steelers' Superbowls were played at neutral sites; the Pirates in the 70's clinched both of their World Series against the Orioles IN Baltimore; the Penguins three previous Stanley Cups were all clinched on the other teams' ice: Minnesota, Chicago, and Detroit.

Hoping for a Penguin win tonight to have the first championship won IN Pittsburgh in 56 years!  My friends in Cleveland would be upset with that sentiment -- just watched the ESPN 30 for 30 film "Believeland" last week... What a sad story! But after the Cavs win last night there is still a glimmer of hope!
