Off-Topic / Re: football season

Unless the Steelers game is on TV (in this geographical area they usually get pre-empted by the Browns game), I tend to watch NFL RedZone where they whip around from one broadcast to the next depending on which teams are the closest to the "red zone" inside the 20 yard line.  Sometimes they have two or three games games on a split-screen if there are multiple games near the goal line.  It is crazy wild in the earlier Sunday games when there are usually a lot more games going on.  In the later afternoon games, there are often just 2 or 3 going on, so they tend to stick with one or the other for extended periods of time.  If they are broadcasting one game full screen, they use the standard broadcast with the network assigned announcers in person at the game.  When they do split screen or transition from one broadcast to another, there is a studio host specific to the NFL RedZone channel who explains the scenarios going on.

Like I said, when the Steelers are on locally - I go to that broadcast.  But when they aren't on locally, I at least get to see the coverage when they or their opponent are "in the red zone".

They pitch it as seven hours of commercial free football.  I know it sounds crazy, but it has become my preferred way to watch games on Sunday.

For those in fantasy football leagues, this is also a fun way to keep tabs on your own players' progress as every touchdown and almost every major play is broadcast as it happens or very soon afterward.

The older you are the time flys by
Remember when you were a kid and it literally felt like FOREVER for Christmas to arrive each year, and now it's more like: "Didn't we JUST do this?"

If only this were true, but I am afraid the media was so embarrassed from all their phony poll results, they are going to be doing their best to discredit Trump every chance the get for years to come.
Don't you think they would be doing this even if their poll results had not been off?

I agree!  LOL! Am I the only one still writing "1989" when filling out a check?  Then I catch myself and have to scratch it out and correct it... Ha ha!

I was never into the comics and never knew much about ANY of the Marvel heroes, except maybe Spiderman and the Hulk.  Earlier this summer, my wife decided to rent The Avengers on blu-ray.  We liked it.  She and my daughter had previously seen the first two Iron Man movies.  I've only seen the last five minutes of the first movie.  Since watching The Avengers, we have rented several other movies in the Marvel series, but we have watched them completely out of chronological order (and still have a few more to see).  That has created a few issues trying to settle in to each movie at the beginning and getting acclimated to where the plot lines are at.  Then there is the teaser preview clip at the end of the credits... more times than not it turns out to be a preview of something we have already watched!  LOL

But all in all it has been a fun alternate universe and we love watching for the Stan Lee cameos in each movie.  Also some home town trivia.  I knew this before watching the movie, but it was cool to see it... The opening sequence in The Avengers when Loki arrived to steal the staff/scepter was filmed in a NASA vacuum chamber just south of Sandusky, Ohio close to where we live.  The Plum Brook NASA site is usually off limits for any outside visitors, but once every 5 or 10 years, they make tours available.  They just did that this past June and we were able to attend.  It was quite impressive.  The tour guide talked briefly about getting to meet Samuel L. Jackson when the movie was filmed several years ago.

I voted Trump. I believe 100% that we will have a woman President someday soon and I support that happening, but I do not believe Hillary was the right person for that.  The mainstream media is so unprofessionally biased in favor of Hillary and the liberal platform in general and so opposed to anything conservative.  Hillary and the media ran a fear campaign.  The picture they painted of a potential Trump administration of racism, bigotry, warmongering, etc. is so far removed from reality, but was painted with a brush of fear and hate.   Trump is NOT going to round up and throw all illegal immigrants out of the country; he is NOT going to start a nuclear war because of some insults and a thin skin; he is not going to kill peace loving Islamic people; although the things Trump has said about women were abhorrent, he is not going to rape women in the White House or anywhere else (it was okay for Bill to do the things he did and for Hillary to do anything to destroy the reputations of those women - double standard?); he is NOT going to destroy our country to line his pockets (and will not be in the pockets of special interest groups like Hillary would have been).  In the next 4 or 8 years - none of these things that Hillary supporters say is going to happen will actually happen.

That said, I did not vote for Trump based upon his politics or his personality (although I am willing to give him a chance and see he can they accomplish).  I voted for Trump because I could not in good conscience vote for Hillary and all of her lies and the very obvious double standard that exists if you have liberal versus conservative views; I voted for Trump, knowing that he is smart enough to surround himself with smart people in his cabinet and knowing that he would bring the Supreme Court back to center rather than ultra-left for decades to come.

I voted for Donald Trump because I am opposed to abortion, especially when so many people use it as a method of birth control and not because of any health risks.  I voted for Donald Trump because Obamacare has been an absolute disaster and has negatively impacted my medical costs.

My vote for Donald Trump does not make me a racist or a homophobe or a deplorable person and I am so tired of those out there who equate one with the other simply because the media or Rosie O'Donnell or Cher or Myley Cyrus told them it was the case.

I voted for Donald Trump as the lesser of two evils and I was not willing to throw my vote away to some third party candidate.  I accepted Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama as the prior Presidents elected during my lifetime in the elections in which I was old enough to vote.  I did not vote for each of these, but I accepted them as the country's choice.  It should be no different now with Donald Trump.  Let's give him a fair chance and see what he does. Let's accept him as the President-elect. Let's stop the name calling and protests because things didn't go our way.  Is he perfect?  Not even close. But there has never been a perfect person to walk this earth other than JC.

Support / Re: Who Here Has EVER Lied On A Survey To Get More Money? >XD
« on: November 08, 2016, 09:06:09 am »Message ID: 1104023
What advantage does lying even give you?

I can remember getting a survey once where I was asked if I had ever heard of several insurance companies, a few were national mainstream companies and there was one obscure one that I had NEVER heard of before.  Of course I checked off all of the ones I had heard of, and assumed the obscure company was a fake name designed to test my honesty - so I left it blank.  I was DQ'd.

A short while later, I was faced with the same survey.  I answered the same way and was DQ'd.

I then looked up the obscure name in Google and learned it was a REAL company.  I kept that in the back of my head, and sure enough I got that survey again a few weeks later.  This time, I could TRUTHFULLY say that I had heard of CompanyX before - and I qualified for the survey.  But when it began asking questions about my impressions about the company, I wasn't able to answer honestly other than that I'd "heard" of it.  I think I ended up closing out that survey rather than give bad data.  I then decided to READ UP on the company and delve deeper into its corporate web site.

It sounds like a broken record, but I got the survey again and this time I was able to answer the questions and give an honest impression of what they offered based on what I found out. I could have lied on the earlier surveys and given bad information, but why?  For a few extra cents on my balance?  Experience tells me that if I don't qualify for this survey today, I WILL get one tomorrow or the next day that I DO qualify for.  Lying today puts all of those future surveys at risk.  It's a pretty dumb risk to take if you ask me.

a number of my neighbors said that they didn't want to have the TV on today.

I always think that this is one of the most exciting days to have the TV on.  I know that your neighbors are likely referring to the non-stop last minute political ads, but later this evening as the returns are coming in and as the congressional and senate races are being called, I will be GLUED to the television.

I will be voting later on today.  I'm lucky there are never long lines at my polling place.   But even if there were I would stand in line for the privilege of voting.

I was a bit discouraged with our local polling place.  Polls were supposed to open at 6:30; they unlocked the doors at 6:35 and then took another 10-15 minutes doing final setup before anyone was able to sign in.  They were doing their best to rush along and I know that they are all volunteers, so I cut them some slack.  But if they advertise 6:30, they should be open and begin checking people in AT 6:30.  There just seemed to be some serious disorganization.

I knew that there would be long lines all day, so I decided to go right when they opened up.  Even with the above delays, I think I still probably made out with a short wait.  My wife starts her work day AT 6:30 and planned to vote on the way to work (very close by thankfully) and get to work a few minutes late.  She ended up being over 30 minutes late!

Ohio does offer early voting, but I prefer to fill it out ON Election Day and WATCH my ballot get sucked into the electronic scanning machine. But I would have waited as long as necessary.  We have some uncertain times ahead of us regardless of who the next President is. Let's hope and pray for the best out of either administration!

Off-Topic / Trading your vote - SCAM
« on: November 07, 2016, 12:13:11 pm »Message ID: 1103891
Clicking on some PTC ads a few mornings ago, a page popped up called trumptraders.org. I do NOT endorse that page or its practices, but it raises some serious questions as to the ethics of this sort of "vote swap". The basic gist of the site is this - it targets third party supporters in key battleground states and asks them to vote for Hillary and in exchange they will get TWO Hillary supporters in non-battleground states to vote for your third-party candidate of choice.  They try to make it sound like a sweet deal because it will artificially increase the national support for the third-party candidate (assuming that they follow through and actually DO give you those two votes for your one), but the obvious objective is to win the election for Hillary and defeat Donald.

I was in shock when I saw this site and the fraud it solicits. It's one thing for a particular candidate to try to convince me to vote for them based on their own policies or based upon the negatives of the other ticket/party. I either agree or disagree and vote my conscience. But it is quite another to try to convince me to vote for one party in my battleground state in exchange for two throw away votes elsewhere for a candidate with no chance to win - just to make some sort of statement. When those third-party candidate votes are meaningless and don't REALLY represent overall increased support for a third party, how is this ethical in this or any other alternate universe?

Regardless of whether a person is a Clinton, Trump, or Johnson supporter, this is a complete whoring of the system and should be offensive to EVERYONE including Clinton supporters. I am going to vote for who I am going to vote for and I would expect anyone else to do the same. Anyone who "sells" their vote in this manner is no better than the Cleveland Indians season ticket holder who sold his extra World Series tickets to Cub fans for a tidy profit. Yeah, you made a few bucks, but you ended up with a Game Seven crowd in Progressive Field generating some serious decibels when David Ross hit a solo shot in the 6th inning.

If you support Donald - VOTE FOR DONALD; if you support Hillary - VOTE FOR HILLARY; if you support one of the third party candidates or cannot stand either Donald OR Hillary and you just want to make a statement - MAKE THAT STATEMENT. Your vote counts for YOU and not anyone else. Your vote is NOT meant to game the system. Your vote is NOT meant to count more than my vote. Your vote is NOT a bartering chip to be sold to the highest bidder.

I just always assumed that those weird questions were part of the "Are you really paying close attention?" test and if you answered YES to them or checked the box next to them on one of the laundry list questions that you would get flagged and DQ'd.
