Off-Topic / Very sad...

Soldier's dog dies in Afghanistan hours after owner is killed:  LONDON - A British soldier and his loyal dog who died just hours apart in Afghanistan made their final journey home Thursday.

Lance Cpl. Liam Tasker was shot on March 1 while he was on patrol with his Springer Spaniel Theo in Afghanistan's Helmand province.

Theo died of a seizure just a short time later.

Colleagues described the pair as inseparable.

Tasker's mother says she thinks the sadness of losing his master may have killed Theo.

"My honest opinion of this is when Liam went down, Theo didn't have the comfort from Liam to calm him down. I truly believe when Theo went back on the kennel that that would have a big, big impact because Liam wasn't there to comfort him and calm him," Ian Tasker, Liam's father, said.

"I don't know why I'm not a vet, I can't answer that question. I'm not a vet. But I would like to believe he died of a broken heart because of Liam," Jane Duffy, Liam's mother, said.

It has been 10,000 years since prehistoric elephants roamed the earth. Now an audacious band of scientists hopes to recreate a living, breathing woolly mammoth.

Off-Topic / What's BOTHERING YOU today?
« on: October 30, 2010, 08:47:02 am »Message ID: 261138
I caught my neighbor (the wife) trying to look in my windows again this morning---my cat had been sitting in a window and left the curtains "apart".    She made me so MAD the way she "ducked" her head when she saw me come out the front door!   :angry7:   I am also  SICK & TIRED of trying to be nice to everyone...being nice to "toxic people" is like giving out free "crack" to drug addicts.  Problem is, it's not always easy to tell at first glance who has "problems" and who doesn't.  I never wanted to be a "distant, cold-hearted" person but I can certainly understand how people end up that way!!  :angry7:  Lastly, one of my dear friends has cancer and there's a great chance she won't be around in a few more months.   :crybaby2: What's BOTHERING YOU today???

Debate & Discuss / Corruption and the Biblical Flood...
« on: October 20, 2010, 05:54:55 pm »Message ID: 257214
I started wondering this week what the animals could have possibly done to have become so corrupt that God (in the Bible) would want to destroy them.  I've been doing some research trying to find a clue and have seen some interesting things.  Some random thoughts--- I read if one thinks the world is "wicked-evil" now...it is NOTHING compared to how evil it was when God sent the flood.  From the Bible  (Genesis 6:4) -  King James Version:   There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare [children] to them, the same [became] mighty men which [were] of old, men of renown.   Same verse but different translation:  New Living Translation ---In those days, and for some time after, giant Nephilites lived on the earth, for whenever the sons of God had intercourse with women, they gave birth to children who became the heroes and famous warriors of ancient times.  and I also read this: The book of Jasher, which is mentioned in the Bible in Joshua 10:13 and 2 Samuel 1.18 says, "After the fallen angels went into the daughters of men, [then] the sons of men taught the mixture of animals of one species with the other, in order to provoke the Lord" (4:18).  The Book of Enoch says that fallen angels not only merged their DNA with women, but that "they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and fish" (7:5; 6)   So now I'm wondering if the dinosaurs could have been genetic mutations that occured by the same (giants and giant animals as well?) ... what do you think?

Off-Topic / Respiratory Problems in your area???
« on: October 15, 2010, 06:27:39 am »Message ID: 254605
The area where I live/work, it seems EVERYONE is SICK.  There's a "cold" going around that is like a bad head cold and then settles in the chest with alot of coughing.  Cough drops & cold meds are hot sellers here.  There are a couple of nurses who've confirmed they have been treating several people in our area with these symptoms...I don't know why it hasn't been in the news.   :dontknow:   (An aquaintance of mine for about 25 years died unexpectedly when she caught this and it was called "bacterial pneumonia".  A neighbor from my childhood neighborhood has been in the hospital with the same symptoms, she should be ok.  While she was in the hospital, her adult daughter also got sick with this and died unexpectedly in their home.  I just heard a lady in a store say she had been in the hospital for 5 days with pneumonia and she was still coughing.)  It's been kind of disturbing, having two unexpected funerals to go for people that would otherwise still be here as they were young & otherwise healthy.  Anyone seeing any of this in your area?

Debate & Discuss / Dealing with "toxic people"...
« on: September 21, 2010, 05:35:54 pm »Message ID: 241317
How do you recognize a toxic person in your life? (Toxic people are people who have serious problems relating to others in a healthy way.)   They may be constantly seeking attention,  intensely jealous, controlling, angry, critical, or emotionally unpredictable. They may even engage in destructive behavior such as lying, physical or emotional abuse, or addictive behaviors. When you are around them you may feel like something is wrong with you, that somehow you are to blame or that you are going crazy dealing with this person.  A troll is just one type of toxic person.  ( http://ezinearticles.com/?Trolls,-Dream-Stealers-and-Frienemies---How-to-Identify-and-Deal-With-Toxic-People&id=3786523) Troll. Trolls are funny creatures. They lie waiting for someone to say something and then BOOM they will swoop in and burst the bubble.

A troll is someone who comes in and says something destructive to you or about you, with no purpose other than to cause a reaction. You probably don't even know this person. This happens a lot online. Through email, Facebook, Twitter and on blog, people are able to say things they wouldn't dare do face-to-face.

· When a troll comes into your life, delete the message instantly (if possible).

· Do not reply to it.

· Do not try to soothe the person.

· All they are looking for is attention, so by not giving it to them you win and they will disappear. (If they don't you have a completely different kind of toxic person - a stalker, and you should notify authorities and report the person).

Off-Topic / Potluck recipes...
« on: August 11, 2010, 12:25:25 pm »Message ID: 219121
Today my neighbor invited me to a neighborhood potluck they are hosting this Saturday (all the neighbors and kids too) and said to show up and bring "a dish to pass".  I've only been to ONE potluck in my life where my recipe began with a store-bought pound cake and required putting holes through the cake and adding pudding, topping, etc.  It was such a disaster (when the cake was cut, pudding poured out and a few of the guys laughed until they were crying)... ::) so that was the end of that for me.  Does anyone have an EASY but GOOD recipe that they would recommend me to take?  (Some of the neighbors are going to be taking turns hosting these potlucks so I'll be needing more than one good recipe and I'll try to get recipes of "good stuff" when I'm there to post back here later.)

Off-Topic / "Nigerian Love Scams"
« on: August 08, 2010, 01:03:06 am »Message ID: 217802
Has anyone lost any money to any Nigerian love scams or know someone that has?  I know a couple of guys that have and one who is convinced it isn't s scam but I think it is.  He posted his picture and info on FaceBook, he was immediately bombarded by women...desperate, crazed women.  ::)  There was a younger one that just happened to be named "Emerald" which coincided with the birthstone for this guy's birthday...this guy was convinced her being named after his birthstone was a "sign" and she's his soulmate.  She's emailed him pictures, she's not pretty at all...but he thinks she is.  He has sent her money repeatedly, money for her birthday so she could buy herself a birthday cake.  Money for clothes which she claimed someone stole when she was taking a shower so he sent her more money.  Within a few months, her grandma died (and needed money for funeral & burial costs), then her mom died (again, more money).  She was supposed to come to US last year but she supposedly got into a fight at the airport with another woman so she needed more money for bail.  The guy called the police there and they said they had noone in custody by that name nor did they earlier.  After that, the guy hasn't said anything for over a year.  Now he's telling people she started her own business there and she's raised the money to come to US soon and he knows she's not a scam because he's been talking to her and seeing her by webcam...everyone that knows him still thinks it's a scam.  What do you think?

Off-Topic / Who's got Mosquitoes???

They are so bad here right now and are supposed to get worse real soon due to all the rain we've gotten.  (Don't forget about your pets if mosquitos are bad in your area, consult with your vet to see if they recommend heartworm medication.)
