i was raised in a family where venison (deer meat) was a standard-- if cooked properly it is delicious and it is very lean (therefore healthy for you) and my dentist swears it has helped my teeth be PERFECT :)

I've only tried it once and it was ok.  My husband was going to make deer meat chili but we lost the deer meat we had in the freezer during the fall 2008 wind storm in KY when we lost power for 6 days.  We dont hunt, but we got some meat from a friend who does.

We called it Bambi Chili.

Deer Jerky is ok.  I've never had a deer "steak" or roast.  We only have it at family gatherings when my nephew brings it to share.

i've had probably everything you can think of made with deer meat -- growing up in a self-sustaining type environment.  We had venison roast, chops, steak, hamburger and my mom would can venison for a strognoff type dish -
again - if cooked properly than it's good.

I can understand why people choose not to eat it, which is fine, but If you eat chicken/turkey/fish/beef then why not eat other animals as well?

People eat frog legs, fish eggs, pigs feet, pigs intestine, rabbit, squarrils, etc..

for those who can't eat live food - well you had better not eat those carrots and corn either - even dirt was or has something in it that is a live - so i guess you will have to suck air - but of course there will be microbes there too  - oh, forget yogurt - microbes are also there - IMHO >> In My Humble Opinion - The MUSEUM, Zazzle, deviantART, ArtFire, FineArtAmerica

It's been decades since I have venison.  I was just a kid so I don't remember what it tastes like.

I haven't had it in a long time so I don't remember how it tastes. I've heard it's good and I'd gladly eat it.

I guess I should be more specific and say I have a hard time eating anything with a face or that beathes the same air as I do

The only meat I ever ate came from cow, pig, chicken, turkey, fish and Shrimp

I won't try anything else ever :sad1:
So do you like deer meat or not?

My husband hunts and our freezer is half way full of deer meat.  I only like deer jerky and chili.  I can fix the chili and you would never know that it is deer meat.  My husband and son love deer meat any way you cook it.  I don't like the smell of the deer steaks or roasts.
