Re: Magic Jack - follow up to my original question

Thank you for all your answers.  Another question - can it be plugged into the back of a cable modem?  It has to be in a computer?  I have a cable phone line now - that breaks up so I don't see a problem there with that.  Same deal I guess has to do with bandwidth or something probably.

The power going out is another thing I am not worried about.  We only have portable home phones (all the phone jacks except one don't work - had the phone company and cable out multiple times to fix - no luck)  I do have Tracfone for emergancy purposes.  My husband is attached to his Iphone that his company pays the bill on - he never uses the house phone.  So it sounds like a good option for us.

Thank You again for all your answers.

Terry R
It plugs into your USB port on your computer, not your modem.

My brother in law got the magic jack for Christmas last year and he hated it.  He said it did not work at all and ended up returning it.  I have had no experience with it but I trust his advice not to get it.

I had the MJ for few months,
it is great when you have relatives in another country,  you can sent it to your relative , they can call you, or any one in USA for free.

I pd $ 29.99 for the MJ, and $ 99.99 dollar for 5 yrs of serv.

I plan send more MJ to more relative in another country..
BUT remember , they had to connect to the internet. :star:

Like anything else in life, there will always be a few whiners that can't figure it out. They have sold thousands of them and have many happy customers.

I really hope there are not THAT many people with relative (other then military) not living in this country... I do NOT like the idea of a bunch of foreigners taking jobs in this country to send money "home" ...

I've been wondering about this myself.  Thanks for asking this question.

...

What about the other way around?

Like, what if I got a job as an English teacher in another country and frequently sent money home to my relatives in the US?
