Job search rip offs
« on: February 25, 2010, 08:40:35 am »
What's up with the job market these days? I've been looking for over a year now and have run into a brick wall. The latest scam is either credit reports or signing up for yet another job search engine. The fact that I don't have good credit should have no bearing on whether or not I am qualifyied for the position. Job search clearinghouses...what's up with that? I request more information about a posting and end up signing up for more nothing? Where are the legitimate jobs these days? I've gotten to the point where I no longer submit my resume, and the email responses are almost always the same scam! Beware folks!

I been looking for awhile too.I been looking online but havent got any calls yet.  I think the best way is to go into business and fill out an application.

Yep same with me. I've sent resume's through emails. I found jobs on craigslist and of course they always say they dont want phone calls and they dont list their business name either. I've not heard back from them and same thing, keep getting ads for phantom jobs "home depot is hiring, click here now!". Ugh. I keep applying for admin jobs and seriously, how would you even begin to know who is hiring and who is not unless you scour the phone book and the entire city. Its ridiculous. I even went onto the staffing service I use to use to see what jobs they had posted and they have practically NOTHING. Nothing in  my city at least. Plenty of jobs in Dallas. Too bad I'm in Houston.

Now with unemployment, we'd get it longer if congress would get off its butt and make a decision but they have us on the back burner. Last I heard yesterday they were pushing for a one month expansion to give them time to decide BUT its not been decided so it is not official.  :BangHead: Some of us need the help because its not easy out there anymore. If I went to apply at burger kind, with my background they would say I am over qualified. I did get one job offer but its over an hour out of my way. By the time they deduct child support, I pay bills and get gas, I'd have nothing left.

We are not alone friends. We can at least take some comfort in knowing there are enough of us that they will be forced to extend unemployment and come up with more jobs.

Yeah it seems like more and more scams and MLM peruse the resumes on careerbuilder and monster to get leads for potential recruits.

Stay away from monster jobs.com.  They never send out your online resume.

i'd like to hear a success story about someone who
actually DID get hired by careerbuilder, monster,
snagajob, etc... either by sending in their resume from
a job posting or someone who was just found.

i've never heard of it happening to anyone around me,
and it sure hasn't happened to me. my fingers are
still crossed, of course.

never give up hope?

I just lost my job this past Friday.  I feel fortunate that they have "eliminated" my position.  Hoping that it means that I can qualify for educational benefits.  :)

I think the best route is temp services coz companies dont want to hire permanantly right now coz no one knows what lies ahead. If things get better its easier to get hired if your already there as a temp.  ive been out of work for over a year now and last week i didnt recieve my unemployment check and i panicked  i called unemployment (no easy task trying to talk with someone live)  turns out i had to file another claim  im good to go for now. Lets see what congress does today for extending. these internet sites that were mentioned for job hunting i cant say anything bad coz i dont know if they are FC sponsors. one of them only advertises on superbowl day. does it cost the job hunter to fill out resume on these sights? or do employers pay them when someone gets a job thru them?

I think that there are so many people looking for work that companies receive and unmanagable amount of applicants.  W/ out last job search (there have been a couple in the last 4 years) We finally only applied to job applications that had fax numbers to actually send your resume to or a direct email (w/ person's name and company name).....My husband filed hundreds of applications online and did not receive a single call back.

Even though you may go into any business now days, they all say fill out an application online and submit your resume' via internet.  I have submitted so many resume's that it really get tiresome because you never hear back regarding the job you applied for.  Its hard trying to find a job in this economy.  Forget about looking for work at home jobs because all they are looking for is money like everyone does or they are simply scams. :BangHead:

I have also been using all of the job search engines and to no avail no jobs or even a interview.  It is impossible in a small town that I do live in where factories are shutting down everyday.  Also if you try to go to school for something you still have to travel 50 miles out of your way. Then you have to look at the cost of gas nowadays.
