Re-use, Recycle, Go Green - Go Green Ideas
« on: March 04, 2010, 07:20:43 am »
Going green does not have to cost a lot, the idea is to save not just the environment but money too!  Here are some suggestions that you can do to use reusable items as opposed to disposable one:
•   sponges or rags vs. paper towels
•   reusable razors vs. disposable shavers
•   coffee mugs vs. paper or plastic cups
•   washable plates vs. paper
•   cloth napkins vs. paper
•   cloth diapers vs. disposable
What other ways are you going green- share your ideas?

I love all the ideas about recycling... I also try to save water in the most possible ways, I have this idea in my mind  that one day people won't have any water to drink if they continue spending water as they do right now.
Talking about diapers!!.. I'm pregnate with twins and I don't want to use the disposable ones... I found out about several companies that make this recycle diapers... it sound awesome for me and was very excited about that idea... but for some reason (maybe because they are new in the market) are so expensive, around $20.00 per diaper and I'm talking about the cheaper one... why so expensive!!... these companies believe in taking care of our enviroment but they also should care about our economy. I say so!!  :binkybaby: :binkybaby:

I compost kitchen waste in my back yard. It's a great soil amendment and vastly reduces the amount I spend at Home Depot to replenish the dirt where I've been growing food for 24 years. I've also saved a lot on my water bill by watering my trees with gray water from the washing machine (I wash with biodegradable soap).

- love the reusable grocery bags and many stores give you some credit for using these as well
- We conserve water/electricity as much as possible
- I buy foods from local farmers in the spring/summer/fall when I can and this saves on the transportation related "smog" caused by foods travelling so far to get to our grocery stores
- I reuse things as much as possible
-take advantage of recycling programs, including the community freecycle to give items away that we no longer can/will use.

I re-use the plastic grocery bags for trash can liners. Most people have a tall trash can in the kitchen, BUT I have small tresh cans in every room. The grocery bags work great. The tall kitchen trash cans always get to smelling terrible before they get enough trash to need emptying. I empty my small one almost every day. No odors.

I also cut the bags in strips and pack them around my 2 outside doors for insulation. It keeps out the cold in winter and the heat in summer.

I shop at thrift stores, flea markets and thrift stores. Also ,in the senior citizens complex where I live, many people place items out beside the trash can when they are moving. I salvage them and use OR resell them.

I sell books I have read and/or salvaged on Amazon.com

This is not about going green. I have been doing this long before the phrase was invented. It is about pinching every penny until it squeals. I use coupons on most every
retail purchase that I make.

I use my re-usable shopping bags but I also use the plastic ones because I put them in my bathroom trash and for the cat box litter, so I re-use the plastic as well.

We uses our canvas toes for most grocery shopping.  The plastic ones I use in the garbage cans in the house like many others here do.  ANy extra plastic bags I take to work and we use them as garbage bags too.

We recycle newspapers and all plastics, glass, aluminum and tin cans.

I cut used computer papers into scratch pads.....these come in especially handy when we play Pictionary!

Why should I care about going green? I only use 'green' choices if its financially correct to me
