Who thinks this country is really free.
« on: March 29, 2010, 01:01:46 pm »
Why do people say we are free when we have to pay just to be in America. I am a proud American and served in the military, I fought for our freedom, but are we really and truely free.

There is nothing free. You paid and we must also pay for this freedom and safeguard it whenever possible by not giving it up.

The word free when used in certain contexts means that we are free to make our own choices (thats slowly being taken away from us), we are not ruled by a dictator, and getting something for nothing. Free can be interpreted in many ways based on a person's belief and lifestyle.

To expound on irishlady's statement that our freedoms are slowly being taken away from us.

We are truly not free when the government is constantly stepping in and telling us how to live our lives. We are not free when someone can tell us how to discipline our children, how to keep our property, if we must wear a seatbelt or not, what we can say to another person for ex. sometimes I feel like punching him when he acts like that...if you say something like that it is considered a threat and can put you into jail, whether if you would act on it or not. How to keep your own house, and the list goes on.

The only thing we are free to do, is eat, live, and die basically. Because I do forsee a limitation on where you can travel to in the future, even that freedom will be gone.

Little by little, Americans are allowing the government to truly become Big Brother and tell us what we can and cant do. They can look into any email correspondence right now under the guise of *anti-terrorism*. I think unless Americans put a stop to what is currently going on, then we will truly be in a dictatorship before we know it.

I have never found anything free in this country.  You pay more and more for everything and its still not enough.  This country is so corrupt that it is mind boggling.

We are not free. I've never thought that. This country comes more close to Communism than anything. We claim that we have liberties, but then they create more and more rules to "protect" those liberties, but in reality, they just confine us more and more to a box of rules where you're constantly handing out half of the money you work for to a government that doesn't really need it. That's not freedom to me.

Oh wow!  I try to stay out of these, but you all are feeling exactly the way I do.  As I filled out that census form today I felt a little less free.  Why am I forced by law to fill out a form such as this when I am already required to file taxes.   If I didn't file taxes or was here illegally, why would I fill out a census form?  It also irritated me that they focused so much on race.  Why does any of that matter?  I am an American, here's is my address.  Why does my race matter?

And while you got me going, how about this.   I got a letter from the Census Bureau letting me know I would get a Census form shortly.  I got the Census form.  Today, (which is supposed to be the deadline for mailing in your census) my dad and I both got a 2nd census form.  Inside it said it was just in case we did not get the first one or misplaced it.  How can you trust the government with your hard earned money when they waste it like this?

It's a fact that absolutely nothing is free. You have to pay a price for everything. Even air isn't free. People who live in the country breathe in higher quality air than people who live in the city as the "price they pay" is to forfeit the convenience of city-life. Does this make sense?

I Love America and am very proud to be American and would not imagine living anywhere else.  BUT  it is in no way shape or form free to live here.  Even if you purchase your home, car and all your belonging cash, you still have to pay property tax, vehicle registration, sales tax.  The list goes on and on.  The Land of the Free can be very expensive

That depends on your definition of free. Nothing in life is, as the song goes, and everything has its price. If you are willing to pay then you can have it-from speech, health care, entertainment, and more-in America it is all available.

It might not be free, but it certainly is the best deal around for sure!

When we ate prosecuted for enjoying an herb such as cannabis sativa rather than drink liquor, which is permitted, then, we are not really free.

It depends on how you look at it.  When I see the nightmarish conditions people endure in some countries, I feel lucky to be an American.
